Koszalin miasto na prawach powiatu w północno-zachodniej Polsce, w województwie zachodniopomorskim, drugie co do wielkości miasto na Pomorzu Zachodnim. Położone na Pobrzeżu Koszalińskim, nad rzeką Dzierżęcinką, nad jeziorami: Jamno i Lubiatowo Północne.
Od X do XIII wieku istniała tu osada Pomorzan, być może związana z sanktuarium pogańskim na Górze Chełmskiej. Pierwsza wzmianka historyczna pochodzi z okresu wypraw Bolesława III Krzywoustego na Pomorze w 1107 roku. W XIV w. Koszalin był jednym z najbogatszych miast na Pomorzu, co zawdzięczał korzystnemu położeniu na szlakach handlowych, a przede wszystkim sąsiedztwu Bałtyku.
w XVII w. Koszalin ostatecznie stracił połączenie z Bałtykiem z powodu zamulenia przesmyku. Zanik handlu morskiego doprowadził wówczas miasto do upadku. W XVIII w. miasto słynęło na lokalnym rynku z produkcji sukna, wyrobów skórzanych, wyrobów pasmanteryjnych oraz powozów. W 1718 roku prawie całe miasto doszczętnie spłonęło w wielkim pożarze, który doszczętnie spowolnił jego rozwój. W 1859 roku oddana do użytku została linia kolejowa Koszalin-Stargard.

Koszalin is a city with poviat rights in north-western Poland, in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, the second largest city in Western Pomerania. It is located on the Koszaliński Coast, on the Dzierżęcinka River, on the Jamno and Lubiatowo Północne lakes.
From the 10th to the 13th century, there was a settlement of Pomeranians here, possibly related to the pagan sanctuary on Góra Chełmska. The first historical mention comes from the period of Bolesław III the Wrymouth's expeditions to Pomerania in 1107. In the 14th century, Koszalin was one of the richest towns in Pomerania, which was due to its favorable location on trade routes, and above all, the vicinity of the Baltic Sea.
in the 17th century, Koszalin finally lost its connection with the Baltic Sea due to the siltation of the isthmus. The disappearance of maritime trade then led the town to collapse. The city in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in north-western Poland with some 47,000 inhabitants (as of 2014). Kołobrzeg is located on the Parsęta River on the south coast of the Baltic Sea (in the middle of the section divided by the Oder and Vistula Rivers). It has been the capital of Kołobrzeg County in West Pomeranian Voivodship since 1999, and was in Koszalin Voivodship from 1950 to 1998. In 1945 Polish and Soviet troops seized the town, while the remaining German population which had not fled the advancing Red Army was expelled. Kołobrzeg, now part of post-war Poland and devastated in the preceding Battle of Kolberg, was rebuilt but lost its status as the regional centre of the nearby city of Koszalin. ref:
