Number 6. ANCIENT AGORA
Ancient Agora
The Ancient Agora used to be Kos's most important market. After an earthquake in 1933, archaeologists were able to find ruins of mosaics, columns, temples, houses, and baths in the area. There is also evidence of a shrine to Aphrodite, a small temple connected to Hercules, and a Christian basilica from the 5th century.
Number 5. ROMAN ODEON
Roman Odeon
The Roman Odeon in Kos is a well-known theatre that dates back to the 2nd or 3rd century. The once-grand theatre could hold up to 750 people for concerts, music competitions, and theatre performances. The site has been fixed up a lot, but many of the seats in the front rows of the Odeon are still there.
Number 4 ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
Archaeological Museum
Even though the Kos Archaeological Museum isn't very big, it has a large collection of sculptures from the Hellenistic, Roman, and Venetian times. The neoclassical building was built in 1935 and is on the Plateia Eleftherias. There are beautiful mosaics, statues, and pieces of pottery from the Asklepion site, as well as a statue of Hippocrates, that are among its most valuable items. Anyone interested in archaeology, art, or the history of the island would be wrong to miss the chance to see the museum's unique artefacts.
Number 3 VISIT THE CASTLE OF KNIGHTS – NERATZIA CASTLE
Neratzia Castle
This building is at the entrance to the harbour of Kos. It was built by the Knights to protect the island from the Ottomans. In 1945, an earthquake caused damage to this building. Not everything was broken, though. When you're in Kos town, take some time to walk around this area and see the ruins of this castle.
Number 2 HIPPOCRATES TREE
Hippocrates tree
The Hippocrates tree is in the middle of Kos town, right next to the Castle of Knights. It's a sight you won't want to miss when you visit this beautiful island. Hippocrates, who is thought of as the father of medicine, taught his students under this plane tree. Although the current one is only 500 years old, there is a possibility of being a descendant of the original tree that stood there 2400 years ago.

A visit to Asklepieion
Asklepeion is said to be Kos's most popular tourist spot. It is only 4 kilometres south-east of Kos town. This archaeological site was made in honour of Hippocrates, an ancient Greek doctor who helped people get better and taught his students how to heal. Asklepieion is just a few metres from natural springs and has the remains of the temples of Asclepius and Apollo, which were destroyed by an earthquake.

Kos Island, Greece | 2020 | 4K
A video of a two-week vacation on the island of Kos and the neighboring islands in the Dodecanese archipelago - Pserimos, Kalimnos and Nisyros. The video was recorded using DJI Osmo Pocket, GoPro Hero 5 and the DJI Spark drone. We were on the island at the second part of September and beginning of October - when the weather is perfect :)
Kos is not a large island, but it is very beautiful. In the north there are lowlands and tourist resorts. In the south of the island, there are quite high mountains with the largest peak Dikeos (843 m above sea level). The capital of the island is the city of the same name - Kos. If you like to actively spend time on sightseeing and at the same time you like to eat well, I recommend choosing the capital of the island as a starting point. There are no large and modern tourist resorts here, but the city itself is beautiful and well connected with the rest of the island. If, on the other hand, you want to lie on a sunbed by the hotel pool, I recommend choosing one of the smaller towns like Agios Fokas, Tigaki, Marmari or Mastichari. The island is a paradise for lovers of two-wheelers - bicycles (there are a lot of bicycle paths here) and scooters (it is the basic means of transport for residents). Regardless of whether you choose a bicycle, scooter or car, the island has a very large number of rentals that offer very good price conditions.
What surprised us the most during the holidays? Islanders. I have heard that they are very hospitable, but you have to go there to learn what true hospitality. Everyone is smiling, when they get to know you, they wave to you on the street and are always eager to talk. The second thing that captivated me? Of course, the food :) Everything we ate - from grilled meat, vegetarian dishes to seafood, was delicious. And of course the wine. We've been to two local wineries and the wine in both was delicious.

48 HOURS ON KOS (Greece ????????) Top Things To Do, Favourite Beach, Incredible Sunsets
This is how we spent 48 hours on the beautiful Greek Island of Kos! As it was getting rainy and dark in our home town of Hamburg, we were looking for a sunny getaway in Europe that wouldn’t require a huge budget. While browsing flight prices we came across a great deal with direct flights for the Greek Island of Kos. As we love Greece already this was a no-brainer for us – so here are the highlights from 48 hours on the island. We search for our favourite beach on the island, eat delicious Greek food and check out incredible sunset spots.
Based on our trip we think that Kos is a great budget friendly beach destination in Europe. We only booked the trip 2-3 weeks in advance, so you might get a better deal! Here’s a quick breakdown of the costs for our trip:
- Package deal with return flights from Hamburg and budget hotel for 7 nights: 450€ per person.
- Rental car on Kos: 26€ per day incl. all insurances
