South Bosnia: Tour of Mostar, Konjic, Jablanica, Počitelj & Blagaj | Bosnia Travel Guide

Today we continue our Bosnian holiday by venturing further into the heart of Herzegovina and explore Konjic, Jablanica, Počitelj, Blagaj, and Mostar (where we see a jump from the famous bridge!). Join me as we take a day tour from Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and explore the beauty of southern Bosnia.

In Konjic, we explore the old bridge & old town. In Jablanica, we learn about the greatest WW2 story of Bosnia - the Battle of Neretva. Then we explore Počitelj, to explore the pearl of Ottoman-mediterranean architecture, before heading to Blagaj where we visit the dervish house and buna river. Then we finally end our trip in the epic city of Mostar

This UNESCO based trip is undoubtedly one of the best ways to plunge into experiencing this southern region of Herzegovina and its breathtaking scenery. It also offers a deeper insight into the fascinating cultural diversity and mind provoking history of the country.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of the rather unknown vacation destinations. Why is that? Because beautiful mountain villages, lush vineyards and shining rivers are waiting for you. Discover the beautiful Balkan country in Eastern Europe.
Between Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia lies the tranquil Bosnia and Herzegovina. So far an absolute insider tip - even though Bosnia is such a beautiful country. Most people think of Bosnia as the siege of Sarajevo and the world-famous assassination of Franz Ferdinand. But the war is long over and Bosnia is a peaceful and safe country. It is high time to take a closer look at this pearl of the Balkans! #bosnia #herzegovina #bestplaces

10 Hidden Gems in Bosnia and Herzegovina Unusual Destinations You Must Visit

10 Hidden Gems in Bosnia and Herzegovina Unusual Destinations You Must Visit

6 Places in 10 Hours (Sarajevo, Konjic, Jablanica, Mostar, Kravica, Blagaj)

Had a day off in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Took the chance to go on a road trip to Mostar, a small city in the south of Bosnia and Herzegovina, straddling the Neretva River. It’s known for the iconic Stari Most (Old Bridge), a reconstructed medieval arched bridge. Left the hotel around 8AM. Along side this trip, we went to different places where we passed by. First stop was Konjic, went out of the car to feel the fresh air and stretched as this trip is a long one. Next was Jablanica. Quick history of this place, during the Battle of the Neretva in 1943, Jablanica was the site of a successful raid by a group of Partisans led by Josip Broz Tito. A rail bridge over the river was blown up while a train was in the middle of crossing. There is a park and monument commemorating this action at the site. The bridge section and the locomotive which can still be seen in the river gorge are the remains of a film set depicting the battle, from the 1960s. One of my favorite place was the Kravica Waterfalls. Kravica waterfall, often erroneously called Kravice, is a large tufa cascade on the Trebižat River, in the karstic heartland of Herzegovina in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is 10 kilometres (6 mi) south of Ljubuški and 40 kilometres (25 mi) south of Mostar. To end our trip, we drove to Blagaj, a village-town in the south-eastern region of the Mostar basin, in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Blagaj is situated at the spring of the Buna river and a historical tekke (tekija or Dervish monastery).

The Old Stone Bridge - Konjic, Bosnia & Herzegovina

The Old Stone Bridge - Konjic, Bosnia & Herzegovina
David’s Been Here is touring all the must-visit sites and top attractions in Bosnia & Herzegovina. In this short clip, David brings us to the south-central town of Konjic, where he pays a visit to the Old Stone Bridge. Built in the year 1682 by the Ottomans, this historic bridge was destroyed by the Germans in 1945 and then reconstructed in 2009. One of the best examples of Ottoman architecture in all of Bosnia & Herzegovina, this bridge is well worth a visit if you’re driving from the capital city of Sarajevo to the southern city of Mostar. Take some photos of the bridge, stop by for a coffee and take a short tour around this picturesque, quaint town… an interesting and quick day trip in southern central Bosnia & Herzegovina!

Bosna i Hercegovina | 10 najljepših mjesta (LISTA)

► PRATI ME NA INSTAGRAMU:

00:00-00:38 Uvod u video
00:38-01:27 Jajce
01:27-02:05 Japodski otoci
02:05-03:15 Titov bunker u Konjicu
03:15-04:04 Sarajevo i Banjaluka
04:04-04:50 Prokoško jezero
04:50-05:58 Trebinje
05:58-06:53 Planine u BiH
06:53-07:53 Štrbački buk
07:53-09:35 Nacionalni Park Sutjeska
09:44-11:51 Divlji konji u Livnu

Bosnia & Herzegovina: Across Sarajevo, Konjic & Mostar

This is a bit of an unusual destination, but we recently travelled to the Balkans to Bosnia & Herzegovina. This was after a wild transit detour taking up an entire day from Kuala Lumpur to Doha to Istanbul before finally making it to Sarajevo due to flight departure delays in KLIA.

Bosnia's a beautiful and scenic but once war-torn country, having seen both the beginning of World War I as well as, more recently, the Bosnian War in the early 90's which broke up former Yugoslavia. As a result, many buildings particularly along the north bank of the Miljacka River running through Sarajevo remain scarred with bullet holes from small arms fire, while numerous areas are marked for still active landmines far outside the cities.

If you're interested in travelling to Europe without the weight of the Euro bearing down on our wallets, this is a fantastic destination that's rich in history and culture - with plenty of heart. With about half its population being Muslim, halal food will be an easy find for Muslim travellers.

TOP 5 resons why you should visit Bosnia and Herzegovina

Diversity

The culture of Sarajevo, the nature in the countryside, the warm welcoming in the villages…. Everywhere you look in Bosnia and Herzegovina is so diverse and eclectic that it is difficult to pinpoint just one facet of the country that makes you fall in love with it so easily.

Bosnian Coffee

Coffee isn’t just another drink in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it’s more of a ritual and an age old tradition. Served in an intricate hand-engraved copper coffee pot and served alongside a small bowl full of sugar cubes and a small traditional coffee cup, it can be an overwhelming experience when you order your first coffee in Bosnia! My friend Ian ordered one and didn’t have a clue how to drink it – so best to ask your waiter or a local sitting nearby for a little help. it should also be noticed that getting a coffee in Bosnia is about way more than simply enjoying a hot beverage, it’s more an invitation to for conversation and a great way to build friendships.

Mostar old town

Stari Most (or Old Bridge in English) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most famous attractions in the entire country. This beautiful bridge located in Mostar’s old town dated back 427 years until it was destroyed on 9 November 1993. The bridge you see today was officially opened in 2004 so isn’t exactly very old! It’s not hard to see why it is the main attraction, as it takes pride of place in the centre of Mostar and looks just as beautiful whether you visit day or night. Exploring the old town is also a must, as you wander through all the cobblestone streets, down narrow alleyways and past busy bazars full of locals selling their wares. A must visit site for any visitor to Bosnia Herzegovina!

Stunning stone churches

No visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina would be complete without a visit to a stone church…or ten. you won’t be able to drive more than a few kilometres without spotting one of these, although as many are tiny they can be hard to spot. often hidden away in the middle of a big field, or lying on the side of a mountain, what makes these small churches so special is that they are entirely made of stone, including the roof.

Friendly people

One of the things you will love the most about Bosnia and Herzegovina is friendliness of people.
