Flying Ethiopian Airlines - How They Became the Biggest in Africa?

I flew on an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 787 from Vienna to Addis Ababa. Find out Ethiopian Airlines latest onboard product in both Business Class and Economy class. The flight was overnight and took 5 hours and 45 minutes. Before landing, a beautiful sunrise greeted all passengers. Join me for landing inside the cockpit of Boeing 787.

After landing, I toured the passenger terminal and up to 10,000 passengers in the morning transit at Addis Ababa Bole Airport making it the busiest hub in Africa.

I was given a tour of the Ethiopian Airlines Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility where a Boeing 767 is undergoing cargo conversion. Then I went inside an Ethiopian A350 passenger freighter full of cargo in the cabin. Last, I went on a day tour in Addis Ababa city.

In next episode, I continue to explore Ethiopia and flew on their new A350 across Africa to Cape Town. Video:

Ethiopia (Kombolcha to Awash)Afar Region Part 31

Welcome to my travelchannel. On my channel you can find almost 1000 films of more than 70 countries. See the playlist on my youtube channel.Enjoy!

Awash is a market town in central Ethiopia. Located in Administrative Zone 3 of the Afar Region, above a gorge on the Awash River, after which the town is named, the town lies on the Addis Ababa - Djibouti Railway, which crosses the gorge by a bridge there. It is the largest settlement in Awash Fentale woreda.Awash lies outside the Awash National Park, which is known for its wildlife, for the Mount Fentale caldera and for the Filwoha Hot Springs. Its market is held on Mondays, where Afar and Kereyu crafts can be found.
An iron bridge over the Awash had been built at the present location of Awash by Emperor Menelik II's favorite, Alfred Ilg, around 1890; this bridge replaced an earlier wooden one. The construction had to face the great difficulty of transporting the girders from Djibouti, but once the material had arrived, the structure had been finished in ten days; however Emperor Menelik had used for other purposes the cement imported from Europe to build the bridge with. When Count Gleichen encountered the bridge in 1897, during his mission to Emperor Menelik, he found the bridge would be too weak to stand anything but ordinary pack-animal traffic. For nine months in the year it is blocked at each end by a broad abattis of thorn-bush, - to prevent people from using it when the river is fordable, - but during the rains it is left open.
Awash grew up around the railroad station, which was opened not long after 1917 when the railway had reached this far into Ethiopia. A hotel for passengers was built in Awash about that time.[3] The fourth post office in Ethiopia (after Harar, Dire Dawa and Addis Ababa) was established in Awash on 1 September 1923, but it may not have been much of a point of origin and arrival but rather a place on the line between the capital and the coast.During the Italian occupation, Awash still provided a post office, a telegraph station, the hotel, and restaurant. The town was occupied in April 1941 by the 22nd East African Brigade of the King's African Rifles, who had advanced for three days from Dire Dawa. Elements of this brigade afterwards continued their advance across the Awash at this point on 3 April 1941, although the road and rail bridge had been demolished by the retreating Italians. By 1953, the bridge had been rebuilt. One of the five camps to train conscripts of the People's Militia (reconstituted in the spring of 1977 as the Red Army) was located at Awash.
On January 14, 1985 a train derailed at Awash on the Addis Ababa - Djibouti Railway plunging four of its five carriages into a ravine; the crash was estimated to have killed at least 428 and injured 500 of the estimated 1,000 on board. It was the worst rail accident in African history. It is believed that the cause of the crash was the excessive speed of the train round a curve on a bridge across the ravine. The derailment happened at 13:40 between Arba and Awash.

This city shares Combolcha Airport with neighbouring Dessie. It is also home to Kombolcha Steel products, a metalworking factory that is part of MIDROC, a conglomerate owned by businessman Sheikh Mohammed Al Amoudi. Another industry in this town is the Kombolcha Textile Factory (KTF), which announced 9 March 2009 that it was beginning a 190 million Birr modernization project to improve the quality of its projects. At the time of the announcement, the KTF exported its goods to Italy, Sweden, Belgium and China.

When the missionary Johann Ludwig Krapf was led as a prisoner from Adare Bille's capital to the Teledere House of the Wollo Oromo in April 1843 he passed Kombolcha, which he described as a village near the source of the Borkana River.
Kombolcha was described during the Italian occupation as having postal and telephone service, a clinic, a spaccio (tobacco shop), barrack village of the A.A.S.S. as well as other improvements intended for Italians.
Kombolcha was used as a base by the United Nations relief organization and other humanitarian groups during the 1984 famine. On 19 November 1989 the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front (TPLF) claimed to have captured Kombolcha. However, the highway from Kombolcha to Assab was not fully brought under TPLF control until the Derg was expelled from Tigray later that year.
Based on the 2007 national census conducted by the Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia (CSA), Kombolcha woreda has a total population of 85,367, of whom 41,968 are men and 43,399 women; 58,667 or 68.72% are urban inhabitants living in town of Kombolcha, the rest of population is living at rural kebeles around Kombolcha. Walking around Ethiopian neighborhood and trip to the local shop.

In this video I am in Kombolcha, Kembolcha, Ethiopia. I give six year old twin brother and sister action cameras and go for a walk to the corner shop to get some supplies. We walk through the ghetto with an unexpected four legged companion, Bowby the dog.

The sequence is a non-stop real-time compilation of footage from all three cameras. This was my first time attempting something like this on a scale this big using continuous footage.

Take a walk with us and get a glimpse of it's like in other places around the world.

Desse and Kombolcha Ethiopia.

I take a bajaj ride up a mountain road that leads from Kombolcha to Desse, Ethiopia. I find a location with fun terrain and fascinating sights. Can you see the people? The fun part of drone footage is examining it closely to notice things that weren't visible while in flight. You never know what you'll see!
I suggest watching on a large screen to observe detail and entire scene. 4K.

Tour to Historical place (Dessie) ደሴ

Dessie is a part of the Wello region, thus having a
similar style of cultural clothing, music, and dances to
other cities in the former Wollo Province. Men's
traditional clothing is, mostly, similar to the rest of the
Amhara region's. Women's traditional clothing
includes a habesha kemis, which is a dress, as well as
a matching scarf, sometimes two, one tied around the
waist and the other over the hair.

Prior to Dessie's foundation, the major settlement in
this area was Wasal, mentioned in an early 16th century Italian itinerary, Wasel is mentioned as a
place that dismembered pieces of the Adal Sultanate's Badlay in Sa'ad ad-Din were sent after his defeat in battle.

19th century
Dessie was founded by Emperor Yohannes IV who was camping in the highlands to the west of the Chefa Valley in 1882 on an expedition to forcefully convert the Muslims who lived in the region to Christianity. As he was looking for a place to centralize his power in Wollo, he stayed overnight in a pre-existing town that is now contained within Dessie. While there, he spotted a comet. He was so impressed by the sight of it that he interpreted it to be a sign from heaven to found his capital city there. A similar story to Zara Yaqob's founding of his capital, Debre Birhan. Thus, he named it Dessie (Amharic: My Joy), as a reference to the elation that the comet had made him
feel.

Dessie increased in importance when Ras Mikael, son- in-law to Emperor Menelik II, made it his base. The city was where his son, would-be emperor Lij lyasus, crowned Mikel negus around 1915. During his residence in Dessie, the Negus built a palace and the Church Enda Medhane Alem, said to be placed on the site of a church destroyed by Ahmed Gragn. The Church is decorated with paintings which include portraits of Ras Mikael and his son.
After the defeat of his father Negus Mikael, Lij lyasu
took refuge in Dessie beginning on 8 November 1916 while unsuccessfully seeking support from as Wolde Giyorgis and other major nobles of northern Ethiopia. However, Ras Wolde Giyorgis used these overtures to extract concessions from the central government, then marched on Dessie which Lij lyasu fled 10 December.
