Yugoslav Spomeniks (Part 4-B): Serbia's Most Beautiful Towns & Villages

23. October - 5. November 2022. Serbia (Србија) ???????? This 4th chapter video presents the second half of my 10-day Autumn round-trip drive from Vršac around the most beautiful parts of Serbia for 1,117 miles (1,978 km) looking for Yugoslav-era spomeniks (monuments). I found (26) of them. The spomeniks are mainly World War II memorial sculptures that were part of a grand project of Tito's to unify socialist Yugoslavia in the aftermath of the NOB. Estimates put the number of such spomeniks built at up to 40,000. These communist works of art are unique and beautiful and often abandoned.

The towns / areas I rolled through are (Part 4-A) Topola (Топола), Paraćin (Параћин), Kruševac (Крушевац) (Slobodište Memorial Complex), Retanj (Ртањ) in the Serbian Carpathians, Knjaževac (Књажевац), Štrbac (Штрбац), Pirot (Пирот), Stara Planina Villages of Donja Kamenica (Доња Каменица), Gostuša (Гостуша), & Rsovci (Рсовци), Niš (Ниш), Donja Lokošnica (Доња Локошница) AKA World's Red Pepper Capital, Kopaonik (Копаоник) (Mramor Monument), Novi Pazar (Нови Пазар), (Part 4-B) Novi Pazar (Нови Пазар), Sjenica, (Сјеница), Prijepolje (Пријепоље), Zlatibor (Златибор), Mokra Gora (Мокра Гора), Tara National Park (Brno Borova Memorial Site), Perućac (Перућац), Obrenovac (Обреновац), Vršac (Вршац), Banatski Karlovac (Банатски Карловац).

After riding my motorbike for over 130km from the easternmost part of Serbia, I arrived in the little town of Knjazevac. Situated between three mountains and located 300km away from Belgrade, Knjazevac serves as the primary town when visiting the Stara Planina mountain range, a mountain stretching across two countries.

In the city center there are two lakes with natural springs, a marina, a sports hall and several football fields. RIDING OFF-ROAD IN SERBIA (they gave me free wine!) [Ep. 4] ????????

Please support this channel by not skipping the ads :)

ALL SERBIA VIDEOS:

I started my day in Negotin, a small town strategically located in between the border of Romania as well as Bulgaria. I was heading to Zaječar (Зајечар) with the final destination being Knjazevac (Књажевац). I made a stop at Rajac and was humbled by the local interaction I got to experience, all thanks to Mira. As I was leaving Rajac, they gave me free wine to showcase their kind hospitality. The last leg of the journey was getting exciting as I took some off-road riding. I pushed my limit by riding these remote roads and overcoming my fear!

Niš, Serbia.

Niš is the third-largest city in Serbia and the administrative center of the Nišava District. It is one of the oldest cities in the Balkans and Europe, and has from ancient times been considered a gateway between the East and the West.
According to the 2011 census, the urban area of Niš has a population of 187,544, while the administrative area has a population of 260,237 inhabitants. It is one of the oldest cities in the Balkans and Europe, and has from ancient times been considered a gateway between the East and the West. It was founded by the Scordisci in 279 BC after the invasion of the Balkans. The city was among several taken during the Roman conquest in 75 BC; the Romans constructed the Via Militaris through the city in the 1st century, and it is also the birthplace of Constantine the Great, the first Christian Emperor and the founder of Constantinople, as well as Constantius III and Justin I. It is home to one of the oldest churches in Serbia, dating back to the 4th century, in the suburb of Mediana. During the partition of the Roman Empire it fell under the control of the Byzantine Empire. In the 6th century Slavic tribes began settling the Balkans; the town was held by the Byzantines until the 9th century when it fell under Bulgar rule.

Serbia is not a mass-tourism destination but nevertheless has a diverse range of touristic products. In 2018, total of over 3.4 million tourists were recorded in accommodations, of which half were foreign. Foreign exchange earnings from tourism were estimated at $1.5 billion.

Follow on Instagram:

Tourism is mainly focused on the mountains and spas of the country, which are mostly visited by domestic tourists, as well as Belgrade and, to a lesser degree, Novi Sad, which are preferred choices of foreign tourists (almost two-thirds of all foreign visits are made to these two cities).[ The most famous mountain resorts are Kopaonik, Stara Planina and Zlatibor. There are also many spas in Serbia, the biggest of which are Vrnjačka Banja, Soko Banja, and Banja Koviljača. City-break and conference tourism is developed in Belgrade and Novi Sad. Other touristic products that Serbia offer are natural wonders like Đavolja varoš, Christian pilgrimage to the many Orthodox monasteries across the country and the river cruising along the Danube. There are several internationally popular music festivals held in Serbia, such as EXIT (with 25–30,000 foreign visitors coming from 60 different countries) and the Guča trumpet festival.

Winter in Serbia, travelin to Ghost Towns and Negotin

This is the last day of our trip to the wineries in Rajac and the area of Negotin, where we had a fantastic last two days and where we found and rescued Simba. On our last day, we visited a winery ghost town and Negotin before heading to Belgrade, where we found a beautiful snow day. Nala went crazy on her first snow day.
This was our first trip traveling with pets Simba and Nala.

In the town of Negotin, we visited a few buildings and especially the house where Stevan Stojanović (one of the most famous Serbian composers) grew up. Stojanović earned the nickname Mokranjac after the village of Mokranje, where his ancestors were from.

In this video, David brings us to the southern city of Nis where we spend an evening at Hamam Restaurant.
