Entering America’s Most Religious Community

As someone who grew up Jewish in Arizona, I’ve always been fascinated by the Hasidic Jews of Brooklyn, New York. They are widely considered to be America’s most religious and closed-off community, even more than the Amish of Pennsylvania. In this 47-minute documentary, I embark on a journey to uncover the secrets of the Hasidics behind closed doors, and discover what makes their lifestyles so incredibly unique.

Guided in the beginning by my friend Abby Stein, a former Hasidic rabbi who is now a transgender author, I gain a fascinating insight into Hasidic life and customs from her perspective - both the good and the bad.

In our climax scene, I meet with @ShloimeZionce, a fellow traveler and YouTuber, who opens the doors to his home so I could document a traditional Shabbat dinner with his family. With the permission of a rabbi, we capture the essence of this essential weekly ritual and the warmth and hospitality of the Hasidic people. You can follow Shloime's adventures on his channel:

This story is really fascinating and I'm really proud of how it came out. From the traditional clothing, music, and food to the strict gender roles and controversies surrounding the community, this documentary dives deep into every aspect of Hasidic life with a balanced portrayal of the good and the bad.

Join me on this captivating journey to experience the Hasidic Jews of Brooklyn, New York, like never seen before.

Walking Cold Spring, NY : Main Street (October 10, 2020)

Walking on Main Street in the Village of Cold Spring on a fine October Autumn day.

From Wikipedia:
Cold Spring is a village in the town of Philipstown in Putnam County, New York, United States. The population was 2,013 at the 2010 census. It borders the smaller village of Nelsonville and the hamlet of Garrison. The central area of the village is on the National Register of Historic Places as the Cold Spring Historic District due to its many well-preserved 19th-century buildings, constructed to accommodate workers at the nearby West Point Foundry (itself a Registered Historic Place today). The town is the birthplace of General Gouverneur K. Warren, who was an important figure in the Union Army during the Civil War. The village, located in the Hudson Highlands, sits at the deepest point of the Hudson River, directly across from West Point. Cold Spring serves as a weekend getaway for many residents of New York City.

Commuter service to New York City is available via the Cold Spring train station, served by Metro-North Railroad. The train journey is about an hour and ten minutes to Grand Central Terminal.

Walking HAUNTED Village of Sleepy Hollow, NY

Sleepy Hollow is infamous for its folklore, movies, and pop culture. I walk through for the first time to see if it really is New York's most haunted village.

From Wikipedia:
Sleepy Hollow is a village in the town of Mount Pleasant, in Westchester County, New York. The village is located on the east bank of the Hudson River, about 30 miles (48 km) north of New York City, and is served by the Philipse Manor stop on the Metro-North Hudson Line. To the south of Sleepy Hollow is the village of Tarrytown, and to the north and east are unincorporated parts of Mount Pleasant. The population of the village at the 2010 census was 9,870.

Originally incorporated as North Tarrytown in the late 19th century, in 1996 the village officially adopted the traditional name for the area. The village is known internationally through The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, an 1820 short story about the local area and its infamous specter, the Headless Horseman, written by Washington Irving, who lived in Tarrytown and is buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Owing to this story, as well as the village's roots in early American history and folklore, Sleepy Hollow is considered by some to be one of the most haunted places in the world.

The village is home to the Philipsburg Manor House and the Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow, as well as the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, where in addition to Washington Irving, numerous other notable people are buried.

The Beauty of Hopewell Junction: A Hidden Gem in Dutchess County, New York [4K]

In the heart of Dutchess County, New York, Hopewell Junction is a quaint hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) that exudes small-town charm and a rich history. With a population of 1,330 residents according to the 2020 census, this picturesque community is an integral part of the larger Poughkeepsie–Newburgh–Middletown, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area and the expansive New York–Newark–Bridgeport, NY-NJ-CT-PA Combined Statistical Area.

**A Railroad Legacy**

Hopewell Junction's history is closely tied to its role as a railroad junction. In the past, it was a bustling hub where the Newburgh, Dutchess, and Connecticut Railroad intersected with the New York and New England Railroad and Dutchess County Railroad. These railroads eventually merged into the New York, New Haven, and Hartford Railroad system, with the ND&C and NY&NE lines now being owned by the Housatonic Railroad and used by Metro-North for equipment transportation between the Hudson Line and Harlem Line. While the era of passenger service on these lines ended between 1932 and 1938, Hopewell Junction's historical significance as a railroad junction is still palpable.

Today, the closest passenger facility to Hopewell Junction is the Beacon station on Metro-North's Hudson Line. Although passenger service may have ceased, the railroad legacy lives on in the form of the Empire State Trail. Hopewell Junction is a vital juncture along this trail, where the Dutchess Rail Trail stretches westward to the Walkway Over the Hudson in Poughkeepsie, and the more recently constructed Maybrook Trailway winds through the scenic hills to Brewster, New York. This trailway nearly meets the Putnam County Trailway, offering outdoor enthusiasts opportunities to explore the region's beauty and even continue their journey towards New York City.

**A Desirable Place to Call Home**

In 2005, Money magazine recognized Hopewell Junction as the 31st Most Desirable Place to Live. This accolade reflects the town's unique blend of natural beauty, historical significance, and a welcoming community spirit.

One of the town's standout features is its commitment to preserving its historical roots. Many of the buildings in Hopewell Junction harken back to a bygone era, showcasing charming architecture and a sense of history that's palpable as you stroll through its streets. The purpose of community here is vital, with residents taking pride in their town's heritage.

Nature enthusiasts will find themselves in paradise in Hopewell Junction. The Dutchess Rail Trail and Maybrook Trailway offer excellent opportunities for hiking, biking, and leisurely walks amidst the picturesque landscapes. The proximity to the Hudson River adds to the town's allure, providing opportunities for water activities and scenic views.

Hopewell Junction, a hidden gem in Dutchess County, New York, continues to capture the hearts of residents and visitors alike. With its rich history as a railroad junction, a dedication to preserving its heritage, and its natural beauty, it's no wonder that Money magazine recognized it as one of the Most Desirable Places to Live. Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast, a history buff, or simply seeking a welcoming community, Hopewell Junction has something to offer everyone who crosses its charming streets.

According to wikipedia:
Poughkeepsie is in the Hudson River Valley region, midway between the core of the New York metropolitan area and the state capital of Albany. It is a principal city of the Poughkeepsie–Newburgh–Middletown metropolitan area which belongs to the New York metropolitan area.[6] It is served by the nearby Hudson Valley Regional Airport and Stewart International Airport in Orange County, New York.-

Sleepy Hollow, NY – Touring the Village and Cemetery ???? – In Search of the Headless Horseman

A special Halloween adventure brings me to the festive Village of Sleepy Hollow, NY. In this adventure, I take a walk around town to see all it has to offer. I explore the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery as well as Old Dutch Church. I visit some story-famous graves and even see the resting place of Irving himself. I also get to see not just one, but two famous bridges that were prominent in the creation of the story.
