Guinée Conakry compte environ 13 millions d’habitants.

GUINEA CONAKRY: Crashs in the FOUTA DJALLON region & Kambadaga waterfalls // EPS. 8

Crashs, waterfalls, and challenging roads: Welcome to the Fouta Djallon region in Guinea - one of my favorite places on this trip so far!

Each country I ever visited I fell in love with – even if it was only for a short minute. But Guinea-Conakry made me fall in love each single second I stayed. Why? Because of its challenges. But also because of its breathtaking beauty, and its untouched nature.

After crossing the border of Guinea-Bissau to Guinea-Conakry at the border post Fulamory, there was already the first surprise waiting: a hand-pulled ferry that brought us over the river. Little did we know that the real challenges were still waiting: A very bad, sandy road - which ended up in two crashs.

The next days we headed torwards Labé, the capital of the region Fouta Djallon. The highlands of Fouta Djallon are often called the watertower - or in French: 'le chateau d'eau' , of West Africa. Sometimes people as well refer to the region as the 'Switzerland of West Africa'. We found out why on a excursion to Kambadaga waterfalls.
Join the journey in through the Fouta Djallon region of Guinea and find out, how it feels to ride in 40+ degrees, on sandy roads or when standing on a majestic waterfall!

//NOTE: videos were recorded before I had a Youtube Channel - initially used for my Instagram stories. That's the reason for the close ups of my face - they were recorded vertically. I still decided to use them - that's the authentic footage I have and I can't change that anymore. Remember: I just started out with filming and cutting - its a learning curve and far from perfect! If you mind seeing my nose hair every now and then, I can highly recommend you to skip this part of the journey and join again when I will publish my next trips after the country Benin with hopefully improved footage!

// Welcome to the journey! I am Lea, a journalist and author and I want to take you with me on a motorcycle overloading adventure to all the wild and beautiful places in the world!

//Join the first stage of my trip around Africa along the coast of Westafrica through 12 countries: Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cote D’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin.
Time of the journey: November 2019 to Feburary 2020

// I circumnavigated the world solo from 2016-2017 and now I am going to all other places I have not seen yet. Now on the channel: my motorcycle trip around africa/ the first stage of the journey through westafrica.

Our Troubles in GUINEA (Conakry)

► SUBSCRIBE for daily travel videos:
► INSTAGRAM? Join me:

After a rough few days in Sierra Leone, we have made it onwards to the next West African country of Guinea (Conakry).

It's been a wild 2.5 days here so far, from the challenging roads to the (once again) disgusting corruption and bribery that we had to deal with. But we made it, after 11 LONG hours of driving 150 miles, to the capital of Conakry.

Initially, we had a great time exploring the fish market at sunrise and then getting secret access inside the 2nd biggest mosque in sub Saharan Africa -- but then things quickly turned bad when thousands of policemen (armed with AK47s, helmets and bullet proof vests) stormed the streets in preparation for the riots which have been destroying the city.

We quickly ran (literally) back to our hotel and called it a day. We didn't leave the hotel anytime afterwards.

This region of the world is tough to travel across, especially in your own vehicle. At each of the dozens and dozens of police checkpoints, we are always pulled over to show our car papers/insurance, and even after we do correctly, the corrupt police will find ANY reason to pick on us (often times, making up some random law) until we pay them off. It makes me sad.

BUT I HAVE SOME GOOD NEWS (in case you missed yesterday's video)! THE SIERRA LEONE GOVERNMENT SAW MY VIDEO ABOUT US GETTING SCAMMED AND THEY WENT TO THE BORDER TO ARREST THE 3 GUYS AND NOW THEY ARE IN PRISON! One step closer to making this region a safer place to visit for everyone.

Iles de Los in Conakry, Guinea

Iles de Los in Conakry, Guinea
Los Islands, French Îles De Los, small archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, off Conakry, the capital of Guinea, West Africa. They provide protection for the port of Conakry and include Tamara (Factory), Kassa, Roume (Crawford), Blanche (White), and De Corail (Coral) and several smaller islets. Tamara, the largest (8 miles [13 km] long and 1–2 miles [1.6–3 km] wide), has the highest point of elevation (499 feet [152 m]). Only Tamara and Kassa have sizable settlements (Fotoba and Cité de Kassa). The group, named for the sacred idols (los idolos) found there by early Portuguese navigators, are of volcanic origin and are covered with palm trees.

Bauxite mining began on Kassa in 1949, but supplies were depleted in 1966. Tamara’s deposits were worked from 1967 until they were exhausted in 1972.

In 1812 the British established a garrison on Tamara to control slave trading and piracy; and in 1818 Sir Charles MacCarthy, governor of Sierra Leone, obtained the islands from the Baga tribe. They were ceded to the French in 1904 and became part of independent Guinea in 1958.

Island-hop, hike, and unwind at Iles de Los, a group of islands lying off Kaloum Peninsula. With golden sand beaches, palms, and forested interiors, the islands offer excellent swimming, sailing, and snorkeling opportunities. Hire a private pirogue for the 40-minute ride from Conakry. Discover why many consider the area an inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson's novel, Treasure Island. Once a center for the Atlantic slave trade, today three islands are inhabited and have elementary amenities, while the remaining four are not. Motor vehicles are not permitted on the islands, but numerous trails provide plenty of hiking. Try the local seafood specialties of this well-known fishing area.
