The country has a diverse population consisting of several ethnic groups, with Tigrinya being the largest ethnic group. Other ethnic groups include Tigre, Saho, Bilen, and others. The official languages of Eritrea are Tigrinya, Arabic, and English.
Eritrea has a varied landscape, including the highlands, the Great Rift Valley, and coastal plains. It experiences a predominantly dry climate with two seasons: a dry season from October to May and a wet season from June to September. Agriculture is an important sector in the country, with most of the population engaged in subsistence farming.
In recent years, Eritrea has faced various challenges, including political tensions, human rights concerns, and economic difficulties. It has been criticized for its lack of political freedoms, restrictions on freedom of the press, and compulsory national service. I'm thrilled to be back in Africa where I will spend the remaining 3 months of the year! Many of you probably haven’t heard of Eritrea before and that’s because it’s a relatively new country and it’s notoriously difficult to enter (top 5 in the world). After 48 hours of roaming around the capital of Asmara and the ancient port city of Massawa, I’ve really enjoyed my time here.
I’m getting flashbacks to when I was in Ethiopia, yet also touches of Yemen Somaliland and Italy. Yes - ITALY! Eritrea is a former Italian colony and their influence is remarkably well-preserved in the form of giant cathedrals, pizza parlors, gelato shops, old Italian cars, appertivos and many people can still speak fluent Italiano.
The capital of Asmara is VERY safe, with kind-hearted people and surprisingly the weather is cold here (2,400 meters high). Unfortunately due to WiFi issues, I haven't been able to upload anything until now, but there’s no hurry because life is wonderful here! More to come soon ????????

Eritrea remains one of the least visited countries in the world for a reason. On top of the visa issues, in order to travel anywhere outside of the capital – Asmara, or attend national events you need each individual permit. These permits aren’t the easiest to obtain due to the country’s bureaucracy and they’re often rejected.
I spent a full week exploring different corners of Eritrea, one of the most mysterious countries in the world.

Nestled in the Horn of Africa is Eritrea. This small country of roughly six million people is bordered by Ethiopia, Sudan, Djibouti, and the Red Sea. Despite a slew of challenges like a poor economy and political repression, and despite difficulties in travelling there (a permit is required if you want to leave the capital), Eritrea is still one of the most awe-inspiring countries in the Horn.

- Dahlak Archipelago; the Red Sea's largest archipelago of which just four islands are inhabited; ruins from the early arabic/islamic settlers of the 8th century have been found and Ethiopian weapons and vehicles dumped into the sea during the war have created large artificial reefs great for diving.
- Debre Bizen; is a hilltop Orthodox monastery founded in 1361; women are forbidden but men can hike to the top to enjoy beautiful scenery and visit the monastery's centuries old library.
- Matara; ruins dating from the Aksumite Empire, partially destroyed in recent conflicts.
- Nakfa; was home to the resistance movement against Ethiopia for 30 years and namesake of the currency, it was leveled in 1983 bombing raids; surrounded by trenches and remnants of the war, there is a sizeable population but it is considerably smaller than pre-war.
Asmara today is in the center of the world in terms of cleanness, tranquillity and architectural style, what it makes it unique and so lovely are the public buildings, villas, and mansions of Art Deco (or Decorative Art). They were built from different architectural styles ranging from Art Deco to Futuristic and Rationalist . The architectural design of the buildings is very unique and especially the facades are catchy to watch. They are majestic and some of them look like sailing ships and monuments dear to remember.
Others look like exotic falls from alien worlds (or otherworldly thing), and still others look like so wonderful paints of a genus artist. Anyone could observe by strolling to the Coptic Orthodox Church the Cathedral, the Mosque, the cinemas and what have you in the heart of the city which are a wonderful pieces of architecture. The majestic scenery of the buildings of Asmara highlighted by umbrella like palm trees are by themselves inviting to appreciate and give pleasure to see and admire.
Asmara is an ideal place to appreciate and to quench the nostalgia for the early 20th century Art Deco. That is why foreign visitors are heard saying people of Asmara are living in a museum. Thus, Asmara is an open air museum. Asmara and its Art Deco were built in the first four decades of the 20th century by mass labor force of its native people, and with few Italian lire and engineers. Most Art Deco buildings in the world are found in few cities. In Asmara, they are intact, preserved and old (as saying has it, ‘Old is Gold’), whereas those in Europe and other places were destroyed either by the two Great Wars or by the successive modernization waves or both.

hello my friends. this is a map of Eritrea. Eritrea is located in East Africa. It is bordered to the northeast and east by the Red Sea, Sudan to the west, Ethiopia to the south, and Djibouti to the southeast.
The country is virtually bisected by a branch of the East African Rift. Eritrea, at the southern end of the Red Sea, is the home of the fork in the rift. The Dahlak Archipelago and its fishing grounds are situated off the sandy and arid coastline.
The Dahlak Archipelago is nice too.
Eritrea may be split into three ecoregions. To the east of the highlands are the hot, arid, coastal plains stretching down to the southeast of the country. The cooler, more fertile highlands, reaching up to 3,000 m, have a different habitat. Habitats here vary from the sub-tropical rainforest at Filfil Solomona to the precipitous cliffs and canyons of the southern highlands. The Afar Triangle or Danakil Depression of Eritrea is the probable location of a triple junction where three tectonic plates are pulling away from one another. The highest point of the country, Emba Soira, is located in the center of Eritrea, at 3,018 meters above sea level.
The main cities of the country are the capital city of Asmara and the port town of Asseb in the southeast, as well as the towns of Massawa to the east, the northern town of Keren, and the central town Mendefera.

ደሴታት ዳህላክ እውን ደስ ዝብል እዩ።
ኤርትራ ኣብ ሰለስተ ኢኮ-ዞባታት ክትምቀል ትኽእል እያ። ካብቲ ከበሳ ብምብራቕ፡ ክሳብ ደቡባዊ ምብራቕ እታ ሃገር ዝዝርጋሕ ውዑይን ደረቕን ገማግም ባሕሪ ዝርከብ ቆላታት ኣሎ። እቶም ዝሑላትን ዝያዳ ልሙዓትን ከበሳታት፡ ክሳብ 3,000 ሜተር ዝበጽሕ፡ ዝተፈላለየ መነባብሮ ኣለዎም። ኣብዚ መነባብሮታት ካብቲ ኣብ ፊልፊል ሶሎሞና ዝርከብ ትሕተ ትሮፒካዊ ጫካታት ክሳብ እቲ ኣብ ደቡባዊ ከበሳታት ዝርከብ ጸድፊ ዘለዎ ገደልን ካንዮንን ይፈላለ እዩ። ዓፋር ስሉስ ኩርናዕ ወይ ዳናኪል ዲፕረሽን ኤርትራ፡ ሰለስተ ቴክቶኒክ ጽላት ካብ ነንሕድሕዶም ዝስሕቡሉ ስሉስ መጋጠሚ ክኸውን ዝኽእል ቦታ እዩ። እቲ ዝለዓለ ነጥቢ እታ ሃገር እምባ ሶይራ ኣብ ማእከል ኤርትራ፡ ልዕሊ ጽፍሒ ባሕሪ 3018 ሜትሮ ልዕሊ ጽፍሒ ባሕሪ ይርከብ።
