Dji / Malaysian Palm Oil / Kelapa Sawit Malaysia / Panoramic Of Earth / 4K Ultra HD

Palm oil production is vital for the economy of Malaysia, which is the world's second- largest producer of the commodity after Indonesia. The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) is a government agency responsible for the promotion and development of the palm oil sector in the country. The country's palm oil industry produces about 90 million tones of lignocellulosic biomass, including empty fruit bunches, oil palm trunks, and oil palm fronds, as well as palm oil mill effluent (POME). In 2010, in response to concerns about social and environmental impact of palm oil, the Malaysian Government pledged to limit palm oil plantation expansion by retaining at least half of the nation's land as forest cover.

Palm oil trees were introduced to British Malaya by the British government in early 1870s as ornament plants from Eastern Region and The Oil River Protectorate, Nigeria, West Africa. The first commercial palm oil cultivation was done in Selangor in 1917 at Tennamaran Estate. In the early stage of development, the government focused on increasing its palm oil output by rapidly increasing the land area for the palm oil cultivation.

In the early 1960s, palm oil cultivation increased significantly under the government diversification program to reduce Malaysia's dependency on rubber and tin. The FELDA land settlement schemes were introduced surrounding most of the palm oil plantation fields to eradicate poverty among the local people. In the same period, Malaysia also became the world's largest palm oil exporter. In the 1980s, the government nationalized three major palm oil companies, which were Guthrie, Golden Hope and Sime Darby

The Malaysian government established the National Biofuel Policy in 2006, which led to the implementation of the B5 mandate in some regions of the country. The B5 mandate requires that all diesel sold in these regions of Malaysia contain 5% palm oil biodiesel. This mandate is expected to be expanded nationwide in 2014, with plans to increase the minimum palm oil biodiesel content to 10%. The biodiesel sector in Malaysia has struggled to become profitable, due in part to the high cost of crude palm oil, which led to a dip in biodiesel production in the late 2000s. In 2012, there were 20 biodiesel plants in Malaysia, of which 2 were operational by early 2013. According to an advisor to the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, biodiesel production in Malaysia is expected to double in 2013

Mural Street @Kelapa Sawit, Kulai, Johor

Another must-see place when in Johor is this Street Mural at Jalan Kelapa Sawit, Kulai. Originally started by Hakka village headman, this mural should be another attraction on your list when you are visiting Putuo Bamboo Garden, Johor Premium Outlet, or Legoland. Just 20 minute drive from Kulai town, there are still some very interesting murals such as Totoro, your friendly neighbor, a huge matchbox with spiders, (an old pastime where children catch spiders and keep them in this match stick boxes), Old Master Q and many others. Oh yes, we can still sit down at the coffee shop to savor the local traditional Hakka cakes and homemade herbal (Loh Han Kou) drinks. Local fruits such as Passion fruit, banana, lemons, are sold here too.

Bandaraya Shah Alam (4k)

Malah nama 'Shah Alam' sendiri dipilih atas perkenan baginda.

Where we stay

THIS IS WHY WE CAME TO BORNEO! ???????? ORANGUTANS, RAINFOREST WALKS & MORE! ????: Sandakan, Sabah (Borneo)

We saw so many orangutans! ???? and it was the best!

We spent hours just watching them be before they headed back into the jungle and it was honestly such an amazing experience. This is part of the reason why we came to Sabah and, it did not disappoint.

In today's vlog, we're visiting the Sandakan Rainforest Discovery Center, and the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary. We wished we had given ourselves more time here. Even though there's not really much to see in the actual town, the nature around is STUNNING!!

★ HERE ARE SOME SANDAKAN TRAVEL TIPS ;)

- You can get to Sandakan by bus, car (roads are not in great shape) or by plane. There's an airport in town.

- If you don't have your own car, make sure to download and set up the Grab app in advance. You'll need it to move around.

- Don't miss a visit to the Rainforest Discovery Center! Even if you don't see anything, the walk is so beautiful! And make sure to book a night guided walk. It's 100% worth it!

- We saw that there were organized tours that take you to all these places. However, they seemed to be rushing everyone out after the orangutan feeding was done. We were on our own, and got to stay walking around and went back to the nursery to see more of the orangutans after the feeding was done. It was very special.

- This is the link to the guest house we stayed at:

- Other things to do we didn't show in this video: 1. A visit to the sun bear conservation center & 2. Kinabatangan River Cruise (literally everyone we met said this was the best thing they did in Sandakan!! This is a full day tour so give yourself enough time)

- VERY IMPORTANT ⚠️ There's also a conservation center for the proboscis monkeys. However, we decided not to go because it's owned and operated by the palm oil producer responsible for destroying their natural habitat.

Hope these tips help you have a better trip to Sandakan and we hope you enjoy today's video :) If you have questions, feel free to reach out in the comments!

Thanks so much for watching and we will see you in Mabul Island!

XO,
Aimara & Gordon
