Last weekend, I decided to visit a friend of mine who lives outside Budapest. He lives in Kaposvár, and that gave me the chance of visiting this small city away from Budapest.
Kaposvár is an extremely calm and relaxing city. There is no huge chaos and noise that is quite familiar in big cities. I enjoyed my entire weekend stay at Kaposvar and I feel it is worth visiting small cities once in a while to get away from the busy big cities.

Kaposvár is a small city in southwest Hungary. It is the capital of Somogy county. I arrived at kaposvár from Budapest by train and it took around 3 hours to reach this city.
I spent around four days in this city and it was a very calm getaway from the busy city. If you would like to watch how does Kaposvár look in the evening, check out my video here:
Tip: the ice cream in the video was from Centrum Fagyizó located in the city center of Kaposvár. I recommend it and it was as big as my face :D.

If you choose to have a vacation at Balaton, it's a nice place to visit for lunch or dinner. Pécs is the fifth largest city in Hungary closer to the Croatian border. You can easily arrive at Pécs from Budapest by train. The city has ancient buildings and ruins still preserved in the city center.
I arrived at Pécs from Kaposvar and that took me around1.25 hours by car. This vlog includes my walk around the city center of pécs on a spring afternoon. The cathedral church of Pécs was definitely a watch.
I recommend this city for its beautiful and lively cafes that it has around. I read the oldest cafe in Hungary is actually in pécs named Caflisch. You can watch it here at 5:40 seconds.

Kaposvár Vára (a 2021-ben megnyitott várpark)
A Kapos folyó árterében épült várnak ma már csak a romjai láthatóak. A török 1555-ben foglalta el, s 133 éven át uralta. A várpark megépítésével együtt 2021-ben nyitották meg, ingyenesen látogatható, a területen játszótér és kerékpáros pihenőhely, mellette elektromos autó töltő pont található.
