Nembe, Nigeria Trip 1998
This was the very first trip my mother and I took to Nembe, Nigeria, journeying to meet up with my husband's family, our inlaws. The only way to get to Nembe is by speedboat, so we chartered one in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, for the one-hour speedboat ride. It is the best way to travel there, many interesting sights and sounds along the way.

My first trip to Naija! On the way to Nembe.
Nembe is only accessible by boat- preferably a speed boat like this one. My whole life I've loved boats, fish, water and warm weather. needless to say, i suffered greatly growing up in Kentucky deprived of these things. At 31, I finally made it ti my paternal ancestral home of Nembe, a tropical island in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. It was a real homecoming.
