Sri Venkataramana Temple Karkala Padutirupathi ಶ್ರೀ ವೆಂಕಟರಮಣ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ ಕಾರ್ಕಳ ಪಡುತಿರುಪತಿ Udupi Temple

Sri Venkataramana Temple Karkala Padutirupathi ಶ್ರೀ ವೆಂಕಟರಮಣ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ ಕಾರ್ಕಳ ಪಡುತಿರುಪತಿ Udupi Temple.Karkala Shree Venkataramana Temple, an ancient temple having a history of 550 years, belongs to Gauda Saraswat Brahmin Samaj.Sri Venkataramana Temple, Karkala, also known as Padutirupathi,is a temple in Karnataka, India. It was built by Goud Saraswat Brahmins of Karkala and was installed on 25 April 1537.This shrine lies to the west of Tirupati while original shrine is in the east. The name itself signifies its meaning. Padu means 'West' in Kannada and Tirupathi means Tirumala temple. This temple has a history dating from about the 14th century when the Jain Bhairarasa Odeyars ruled Karkala and surrounding places. The Gaud Saraswat Brahmins were given land by the Jain Odeyars so that these people can lead a happy life. The land which they gave to the GSBs was occupied by a lady of some Mutt (religious institution for learning Vedas and Puranas). The lady heeded to the people and Jains only one condition that

There are four powerful Ganas [Lord Shiva's servants] who should be worshipped and given sacrifices of coconuts, green pumpkins, Turmeric and so on; unless they would get angry. Also a yearly sacrifice should be performed as no unholy things may happen in and around here.

The Gaud Saraswat Brahmins and the Jain king openly said yes to lady, and the temple was built. Initially a huge platform was built and four pillars were made to stand in the corners. Entangled coconut leaves were made as a roof. The idol was installed inside and prayed for the betterment of people. The compound wall was in its progress for building up the blocks. Soma Sharma returned to Karkala from Tirupathi with another idol of Lord Sree Venkataramana which was given to him by the Tirumala priests at the end of the 14th century. He installed this idol with the previously installed idol of Lord Venkataramana in the newly built stone platform.
The whole temple got renovated in 1699–1700. Then Parivar Devas like Lord Mukyaprana, Lord Gaurda, Lord Lakshmi and Lord Ganapathi were installed after two years of renovation.
Pillars at Sri Venkataramana Temple were made by Renjala Gopala Shenoy (1897 - 1985) - The magician who infused life into stones. Dexterity and perfection are the hallmarks of the works of Gopala Shenoy. The mastery of his skills can be observed in the four pillars of Garuda Mantap of Sri Venkataramana Temple, Karkala. The chains hanging from the pillars though made out of stone move like any other steel chains. Miniature sized animals such as lizards and honeybees have been meticulously and vividly carved on the pillars. The four pillars are not alike. They narrate different mythological stories. From the single stone selected from Nallur near Karkala, he carved four pillars and a statue of Durga Parameshwari.
The first GSB to enter Karkala was Soire Prabhu whose great grandson is K. Ramesh Prabhu the present trustee of the temple. They are also called as the first Mokteswar of Karkala Padu Tirupathi Temple. One more family who migrated from Goa along with Prabhu's were the Soma Sharmas. He was a priest in Tirupathi Temple. Prabhus started their life in Karkala as usual how they used to live in Goa with all the rites and rituals.

Bangalore to Mangalore a road trip via #Sringeri | “Tunga Pana Ganga Snana” | a #travel vlog | 4K

2nd April 2021, a Friday at 1 am we started from Bengaluru. After driving around 112 km we stopped for a short coffee break in café coffee day at Bellur-cross. This is our regular pit stop when we travel through this route. We spend around 40 minutes here and continued our journey to our first destination Sringeri. Another 210 km drive to Sringeri and it will take around 4 hours to reach there.
We can see this beautiful mosque (Jamia Masjid) at Belahonnur town after driving 295 km from Bengaluru. At 6:15 am we passed through Belahonnur. Around 300 km we reached Jayapura, we took right from Jayapura and passed through an amazing Ghats session to reach Sringeri.
We crossed the Tunga river bridge and stopped on the riverside to watch the beauty of the Tunga river during the sunrise.
The Tunga River, this river is born in the Western Ghats on a hill known as Varaha Parvata at a place called Gangamoola. This river flows through two districts in Karnataka - Chikmagalur District and Shimoga District. It is 147 km long and merges with the Bhadra River at Koodli, a small town near Shimoga.
The river is famous for the sweetness of its water and is considered to be the sweetest water in the world. There is a belief that Thunga pana Ganga snana means we should drink the water of the river Thunga and take bath in river Ganga.
We are walking towards the temple entrance; on the way, we bought some puffed rice to feed the fishes in the Tunga river.
Sringeri also called Sri Kshetra Shringeri is a hill town in the Chikkamagaluru district. It is the site of the first maṭha by Adi Shankara, Hindu theologian, and exponent of the Advaita Vedanta philosophy, in the 8th century CE. The main temples are Sri Sharadamba, Sri Vidyashankara, Sri Malahanikareshvara etc.
Temple opens from 6 am to 2 pm and 4 pm to 9 pm
We need to provide the identity proof and mobile number to get inside the temple premises.
The name Sringeri is derived from Rishyashringa-Giri, a nearby hill that is believed to have contained the hermitage of Rishi Vibhandaka and his son Rishyashringa. In an episode in the Bala-Kanda of the Ramayana, Vasishtha narrates how Rishyashringa brought rains to the drought-stricken kingdom of Romapada.
According to legend, Sri Adi Shankara is said to have selected the site as the place to stay and teach his disciples, because when he was walking by the Tunga river, he saw a cobra with a raised hood, providing shelter from the hot sun to a frog undergoing labor. Impressed with the place where natural enemies had gone beyond their instincts, he stayed here for twelve years.
The Vidyashankara temple was built in the year 1338 A.D., in commemoration of the pontiff Sri Vidyashankara, by Sri Vidyaranya, patron-saint of Harihara and Bukka, the brothers who founded the Vijayanagara empire.
Sringeri Sharda Temple Fish is of great importance. There are huge fishes on the banks of the river near the temple. Fishing here is banned. They are considered sacred. It is customary for the devotees who visit the temple to feed these fishes with puffed rice.
We spend more than an hour here and now going near to a hanging bridge near to the temple across river Tungu.
After driving 11 km from Sringeri, we stopped near a beautiful lake. The name of this lake is Nalluru kere. You can also see a small Bhrahmalingeswara temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva near Nalluru kere.

The single stone 41.5 feet (13 m) statue Gommateshwara (Lord Bahubali) is located about 1 km from the center of the town and is the second tallest in Karnataka. The other statues of Bahubali in the state are at Shravanabelagola installed by Chavundaraya, which is 57 feet tall, at Venur installed by Timmaraja, which is 35 feet (11 m) tall, and at Dharmasthala installed by Dr. Veerendra Heggade, which is 39 feet (12 m) tall. Every twelve years, hundreds of thousands of Jain devotees congregate to perform the Mahamastakabhisheka, a ceremony where the Gommateshwara statue is bathed and anointed with milk, water, and saffron paste and sprinkled with sandalwood powder, turmeric, and vermilion. The last Mahamastakabhisheka was held in January, 2015. An annual Rathotsava is held in February. The towering 41.5 ft. granite monolith of Bahubali - also known as Gommateshwara - is built on an elevated platform on top of a rocky hill, known locally as Gommata Betta. Gommateshwara is also known as Gommata and Gomateshwara. The colossus was consecrated on 13 February 1432 A.D. by Veera Pandya Bhairarasa Wodeyar, scion of the Bhairarasa Dynasty, feudatory of the Vijayanagara Rulers.
Jainism was introduced in Karnataka by Lord Mahaveera in the 6th Century B.C during the course of his travels, when he converted Jivandhara, the king of the Hemangada Country into Jainism.
