Bohra Havelis of Sidhpur - PARIS of GUJARAT | Bohra Vad Sidhpur(Patan) | Sidhpur Bohra Houses
In this Vlog I will be showing you the Bohra Vad Sidhpur which lies in Sidhpur Town of Patan District in Gujarat. This locality has several beautiful havelis built in European Gothic Architecture where Bohra muslim community resides and for this reason these Bohra Haveli Sidhpur (Sidhpur Bohra houses) are a point of attraction among the tourists visiting Patan. Apart from these mansions, Sidhpur Gujarat also has an ancient temple named 'Rudra Mahalya'. So, let me tell you more about these Bohra Havelis of Sidhpur Patan, also known as 'Paris of Gujarat'.
The town holds great importance for the Bohra Muslims, which is known to be an affluent Muslim community which is spread all over the world. They have contributed a lot for the development of Sidhpur. Their old Havelis and mansions, some of which are even 100 years old have a markedly European flavor and a walk through this beautiful ‘Bohra Vad’ is like walking through an Paris replete with the lamp lighters at dusk. So enamored were they by the style as well as by existence of living in the 19th century Europe that to mark the sign of opulence and for gaining respectability amongst the community they have tried to create a slice of Europe in their town Sidhpur. So, they did it by imitating the Victorian architecture. The facades look quite rich in variety and aesthetic expression is quite intricate details in wood. Thus the living spaces of the Bohra community or better known as ‘Bohra Havelis’ represent quite a nostalgic visual straight out of a Dickenson novel.
The wealthy people from Bohra community built these Victorian mansions in the late 19th-early 20th centuries in order to emulate the style and existence of living in Europe. Walking down the streets here with Victorians painted in pastel hues on both sides, you can feel as if you are dropped into England or on a movie set. The gorgeous facades of Bohra Havelis have intricate, wood details and each and every house has expressed the owner’s creativity; painted in shades of lime green, pale pink, lilac, mandarin orange, and white.

रुद्रमहालय मंदिर भारत के पश्चिमी भाग में गुजरात राज्य के पाटन जिले के कुल 8 (आठ) तालुकों में से एक है। यह 948 AD में बनाया गया था। इसकी शुरुआत सोलंकी वंश के राजा मूलराज सोलंकी ने 9 वीं शताब्दी में की थी और इसे 1160 में सिद्धराज जय सिंह के शासनकाल में पूरा किया गया था। मंदिर को पहले अलाउद्दीन खिलजी ने और फिर अहमद शाह प्रथम ने मंदिर को पूरी तरह से नष्ट कर दिया और इसके एक हिस्से को मस्जिद में बदल दिया । मंदिर के तोरण और चार स्तंभ अभी भी बरकरार हैं और मंदिर के पश्चिमी भाग का उपयोग मस्जिद के रूप में किया जाता है।
सिद्धपुर ऐतिहासिक रूप से श्रीस्थल के नाम से जाना जाता था। १०वीं शताब्दी में, सिद्धपुर सोलंकी राजवंश के शासन में एक महत्वपूर्ण शहर था। सोलंकी वंश के संस्थापक मूलराज ने १०वीं शताब्दी (६ ईस्वी) में रुद्र महालय मंदिर का निर्माण शुरू किया था। अपनी युवावस्था में, मूलराज ने सत्ता पाने के लिए अपने चाचा को मार डाला और अपनी माँ के सभी रिश्तेदारों को मार डाला और बुढ़ापे में भी इन कर्मों ने उन्हें मन की शांति नहीं दी। उन्होंने तीर्थों का निर्माण किया और दूर-दूर से ब्राह्मणों को अपने दरबार में आमंत्रित किया, उन्होंने श्रीस्थल में रुद्र महालय का निर्माण शुरू किया और 7 में सिंहासन से सेवानिवृत्त हुए। लेकिन रुद्रमहालय अभी भी अधूरा था और इसका निर्माण 1130 तक पूरा नहीं हुआ था।
यह महालय सरस्वती नदी के तट पर बलुआ पत्थर से बना है। वास्तुकला चालुक्य शैली के संस्थापक सोलंकी वंश के राजा मूलराज सोलंकी द्वारा बनवाया गया था। इसके बाद राजा सिद्धराज जयसिंघे ने इसकी मरम्मत की। मूल वास्तुकला की भव्यता के साथ-साथ कला की समृद्धि चार स्तंभों और इसके ऊपर की कलात्मक नक्काशी से स्पष्ट होती है। रुद्रमहालय की सुंदर मूर्तियों और कलात्मक नक्काशी की लंबाई 30 मीटर और चौड़ाई 5 मीटर है। भारतीय पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षण के अनुसार रुद्रमहालय दो मंजिला ऊंचा था। इसकी ऊंचाई 150 फीट थी। रुद्रमहालय बारह द्वारों और ग्यारह रुद्र देवकुलिकों से घिरा हुआ था। रुद्रमहालय के सभा भवन के गुम्बद के किनारे को रामायण और महाभारत की घटनाओं से उकेरा गया था।
आज रुद्रमहालय खंडहर में है और महालय का एक छोटा सा हिस्सा ही बचा है। यह वास्तुकला सोलंकी राजवंश की कला-समृद्धि का एक सिंहावलोकन देती है
धनी बोहरा ने इन विक्टोरियन हवेली का निर्माण 19वीं- 20वीं शताब्दी के अंत में यूरोप में रहने की शैली और अस्तित्व का अनुकरण करने के लिए किया था। दोनों तरफ पेस्टल रंगों में रंगे हुए विक्टोरियन लोगों के साथ सड़क पर चलते हुए, हमें ऐसा लगा जैसे हमें इंग्लैंड में या किसी फिल्म के सेट पर छोड़ दिया गया हो। भव्य अग्रभाग में सभी जटिल, लकड़ी के विवरण थे और प्रत्येक घर ने मालिक की रचनात्मकता को व्यक्त किया; चूने के हरे रंग के रंगों में चित्रित हल्का गुलाबी, बकाइन, मैंडरिन नारंगी, और सफेद। एक परिवार के लिए एक खाली, निजी आवास बनाया गया था और इसमें 360 खिड़कियां थीं।
आज के आधुनिक सिद्धपुर को वेदों में श्रीस्थल यानि पवित्र स्थान बताया गया है। भारत में पांच प्रमुख प्राचीन पवित्र झीलों में से एक, सरोवर, सिद्धपुर के पास स्थित है। हिंदू धार्मिक मान्यताओं के अनुसार पितृसत्तात्मक अंत्येष्टि के लिए जाना पड़ता है जबकि मां को दफनाने की जगह सिद्धपुर होती है। भारत में पाँच स्व-निहित शिव मंदिर हैं, प्रत्येक सिद्धपुर में हैं। हिंदू महाश्रवण में यहां पूजा करना बहुत जरूरी है।

This is one of the spiritual places where people go to perform Puja/ceremonies. The facilities are good, the premises are clean and nicely maintained and the museum is informative. However, on the flip side, you are hounded by pandits and brahmins, for doing the Puja. The place where Puja is conducted is clean and maintained well
A Short Walk Around Siddiphur, Gujarat
Did you know that the Bohra are a third sect of Islam? They are a minority in Sidhpur and not accepted by the majority of the Muslim community. Sidhpur is a major center for the wealthy Bohra Muslims who primarily live abroad and only visit their ancestral homes for important social ceremonies.
Both sides of a long street in Sidiphur is filled with colorful Victorian mansions built in the late 19th-early 20th centuries in pastel hues. Gorgeous facades that emulate European styles. We felt as if we had been dropped into a street of English row houses. Each house expresses the owner's creativity. One empty, private residence, built for ONE family, had 360 windows!
What a treat just walking this unexpected street in India, of all places. In just one Incredible India Day, we visited Raniki Vav Step Well, a holy crematiion site and now admired Victorian houses... It's no wonder we keep returning to India....

Jessore sloth bear sanctuary is situated near Palanpur city on Aravalli range. On one of the hills of this sanctuary have a Kedarnath temple on top or it. it is very calm place and must visit place during monsoon.
if you love hiking and tracking then this place is for you. if you want to take a break for a day then it is best place for you.

From #Mahesana we boarded a bus to #Siddhpur . Ticket fare was only Rs.41/- and it took around an hour to reach the Siddhpur bus stand .From there we hired an auto to reach the #BohrawadParisGalli #Bohravad .
The Dawoodi #Bohras are a Shia Muslim trading community of Gujarat .
The word bohra infact came from the Gujrati word vyapar meaning to trade .
They ventured out in foreign nations for trade and commerce and was influenced by the Victorian styled European architecture.
They imitated the same design in building their own residences back in siddhpur and developed a unique style by combining European, Indian and Muslim architectural style which stands out distinctly .
These beautiful wooden mansions are painted with pretty pastel hues of baby pink , sky blue , peach ,lime green amongst others .
Walking across these beautiful houses gives a feeling of walking in the streets of a European country .
These homes are now deserted because the trading community have now shifted to Ahmedabad and Mumbai for a better livelihood .

After seeing the #RudraMahalaya temple , we again boarded an auto rickshaw to reach the #BinduSarovar.
#Siddhpur was originally called Sristhal , there is a museum inside the #BinduSarovar complex which is named as the Sristhal museum .
Broken pieces of the temples specially of the Maru-Gurjar architectural style of the Solanki period is kept inside the museum, beautiful wooden carvings are there and a beautiful mirror is also exhibited. Ticket fare is only 5 rupees.
There are more than one mythological stories sorrounding the
Bindu sarovar . The holy tank ,finds it's mention in the Rig Veda as well .
It is believed Parshuram and the Sage Kapil , had conducted the last rites of their mothers over here in Bindu sarovar .
Hence it's also called #MatriGaya or #MatriMokshSthal .
This is the only place in India , where people come to perform the last rites of maternal lineage .

The five most holy and ancient lakes of India renowned for their sacredness are: (1) Manas Sarovar (Tibet) (2) Pushkar Sarovar (Rajasthan) (3) Bindu Sarovar (Gujarat) (4) Narayan Sarovar (Kutch, Gujarat) (5) Pampa Sarovar (Karnataka). The Bindu Sarovar has its special sanctity and glory due to it being the Tapobhumi of Shri Kapil Dev - an incarnation of God and founder of Samkhya philosophy. It was on the banks of the Bindu Sarovar that Kapil Dev preached the essence of attaining Moksha to his mother. Bhagwan Swaminarayan had also sanctified the Bindu Sarovar.
Kedarnath Mahadev | Jessore Sloth Bear Sanctuary | Mountain Tracking | Gujarat's Heaven
Jessore Sloth Bear Sanctuary is situated in the Banaskantha district formerly under Palanpur State in the Indian state of Gujaratat the Gujarat-Rajasthan border. It was declared as a sanctuary in May 1978, covering an area of about 180 square kilometres (69 sq mi), principally for protection of the sloth bear, which is now categorized as Vulnerable A2cd+4cd;C1 ver 3.1 on the IUCN Red List. Their numbers are declining in the wild and they are threatened with extinction.
