Road trip across North Dakota: Theodore Roosevelt National Park, trying North Dakota foods, & MORE!
On the way to the Great Lakes we decided to road trip through North Dakota from Medora to Fargo, to experience part of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, some of its Native American history, see multiple cities, and eat some local foods. We had a great time experiencing a variety of what North Dakota is known for!

10/2020 Denkmal des Monats: Jüterbog
Am 30. Oktober war die AG Historische Stadtkerne in Jüterbog zu Gast, um das Torwächterhaus am Dammtorturm als Denkmal des Monats auszuzeichnen. Bei Regen und guter Laune freuten wir uns, dass die Veranstaltung trotz Corona doch noch im kleinen Rahmen stattfinden konnte.
Das Torwächterhaus diente dem Torwächter als Unterkunft, der das Tor öffnete und schloss und für die Erhebung des Geleitzolls verantwortlich war. Seit 1939 ist es im Besitz der Kirche und beherbergt heute eine offene Jugend-Begegnungsstätte.

Oktoberfest Costume and Riflemen's Parade -- Part1
The Costume and Riflemen's Parade has a long tradition. In 1835 it took place for the first time for the silver wedding anniversary of King Ludwig I. of Bavarians and Princess Therese. Today it is one of the highlights of the Oktoberfest and one of the biggest costume parades in the world. Over 8,000 participants from around the world are at the parade on the first Sunday of the Oktoberfest here. The 3-mile long procession leads from the Maximilianeum through Munich's city center to the festival ground of the Oktoberfest.
The Munich Kindl -- Munich Child - mustn't of course be missing in his gilt-edged black monk's habit and the Oktoberfest beer mug. The Munich Kindl is the coat of arms of the city of Munich and has become a mascot for the Oktoberfest.
Costume and riflemen's associations in their traditional costumes are accompanied by marching bands, flag wavers, guards, marching bands, thoroughbred horses, the horse-drawn drays of the Munich breweries and many decorated carriages. The carriages are partly drawn by oxen. Many colorful international costume groups are represented and also the children take part. Historical craftsmen, decorated harvest garlands, ribbon trees, sheep and goats can be seen in the parade. The carriage with the performer of the king is pulled by 10 black horses.

Oktoberfest Trachten- und Schützenumzug München -- Teil 1
Der Trachten- und Schützenumzug hat eine lange Tradition. Erstmals fand er 1835 zur Silberhochzeit von König Ludwig I. von Bayern und Prinzessin Therese statt. Heute ist es einer der Höhepunkte des Oktoberfests und einer der größten Trachtenumzüge der Welt. Über 8000 Teilnehmer aus aller Welt sind bei dem Umzug am ersten Sonntag des Oktoberfestes dabei. Der 7 km lange Umzug führt vom Maximilianeum durch die Innenstadt bis zur Festwiese des Oktoberfests.
Selbstverständlich darf das Münchner Kindl in seiner goldumrandeten schwarzen Mönchskutte mit dem Maßkrug nicht fehlen. Das Münchner Kindl ist die Wappenfigur der Stadt München.
Trachten- und Schützenvereine in ihren traditionellen Kostümen werden begleitet von Musikkapellen, Fahnenschwingern, Garden, Spielmannszügen, den Prachtgespannen der Münchner Brauereien und vielen geschmückten Kutschen. Die Wagen werden teilweise auch von Ochsen gezogen. Auch viele farbenfrohe internationale Gruppen sind vertreten und auch die Kinder machen mit. Historisches Handwerker, geschmückte Erntekränze und Schafe und Ziegen sind im Zug zu sehen. Die Kutsche mit dem Darsteller des Königs wird von 10 schwarzen Pferden gezogen.

Verlassenes Erlebnisbad Basso / Lost Place
Das Basso war ein Schwimmbad mit angeschlossenem Freizeitpark in Bad Schmiedeberg.
Das Basso wurde 1993 als erstes sogenanntes Spaßbad in den neuen Bundesländern eröffnet. Die Kosten werden auf damals 36 Millionen Mark geschätzt. Nach anfänglich hohen Besucherzahlen aus umliegenden Städten wie Leipzig und Wittenberg ging die Nachfrage zurück, als immer mehr Spaßbäder errichtet wurden, zum Beispiel im nah gelegenen Bad Düben. Am 26. September 2003 wurde der 2,5-millionste Besucher durch Landeswirtschaftsminister Horst Rehberger begrüßt. Ende des Jahres musste der Betreiber Insolvenz anmelden. 2009 wurde die Anlage komplett geschlossen, verwahrlost seitdem und wurde Opfer von Metalldieben.
