How to tell Good Moonshine from Bad Moonshine

youtube travel videos

In the days when Moonshine was illegal, Tennessee moonshiners like Ronald Lawson had to be able to work out the difference between Good Moonshine and Bad Moonshine by eye. Bad Moonshine has too high a alcohol content and can be dangerous to drink, causing such problems as blindness.

Ronald has made illegal Moonshine all his life in Cannon County, for the last two years, he has made legal Moonshine at Short Mountain Distillery, using a recipe passed down since prohibition days.

Lake Fausse Pointe State Park / Louisiana / RV & Tent Camping / A Campground Fav!

Lake Fausse Pointe State Park in Louisiana is a Travel Small Live Big campground favorite! We had a very cool bayou front site with our own deck over the bayou. This Louisiana State Park has a lot to do and see. There are hiking trails, cabins for rent, bayous to explore, a splash pad for the kids, launch ramp and wildlife. We were happy to not see any alligators, but we did see turtles! The park has 6000 acres of wetlands, bayous, canals & islands. The town of New Iberia - James Lee Burke's childhood summer home and location for settings of his novels is close enough for a visit, as well as Avery Island - home of Tabasco! Join us for our visit to Lake Fausse Pointe State Park's campground & hiking trails as well as a walk down New Iberia's main street and some ice cream tasting at Tabasco!

New Iberia to Jeanerette, Louisiana Highway 87

Louisiana Highway 87 (LA 87) is a state highway located in southern Louisiana. It runs 42.04 miles (67.66 km) in a northwest to southeast direction from LA 86 in New Iberia to the junction of two local roads north of Centerville.

The route parallels Bayou Teche downstream from New Iberia through Iberia Parish and into neighboring St. Mary Parish. It is the east bank counterpart to the busier LA 182 (the former path of U.S. Highway 90), along which most of the area's populated communities are located. A succession of bridges connect LA 87 with these communities, which include Jeanerette, Charenton, Baldwin, and Franklin. Points of interest along LA 87 include the Bayside antebellum plantation house opposite the Hubertville section of Jeanerette, as well as several sites associated with the Chitimacha Indian tribe at Charenton.

LA 87 was designated in the 1955 Louisiana Highway renumbering, joining together four shorter former routes created between 1926 and 1930.

From the northwest, LA 87 begins at a junction with LA 86 (Duperier Avenue) in the city of New Iberia. It heads southeast as an undivided two-lane highway through a residential neighborhood, initially traveling along Oak Street. After a few blocks, however, the route makes a zigzag over to Parkview Drive via Ashton Street. Exactly one mile (1.6 km) along the route is an intersection with North Lewis Avenue, a commercial thoroughfare that is designated as LA 87 Spur and crosses a vertical lift bridge over Bayou Teche.

After exiting the city limits, LA 87 continues to parallel the east bank of the bayou through unincorporated Iberia Parish for approximately 10 miles (16 km). During this stretch, the surroundings gradually transition from a mixture of farmland and newer suburban development to being generally rural. A succession of bridges connect LA 87 with the busier west bank of Bayou Teche. The first two are located at junctions with LA 3195 and LA 320 near Olivier. These are followed by locally maintained bridges near Lifenite and Loisel. Continuing southeast, two state highway bridges connect LA 87 with the city of Jeanerette on the opposite bank. These are located at LA 3182 and LA 671. Just before reaching the junction with LA 3182, the highway passes under a canopy of moss-laden live oak trees in front of the historic Bayside plantation home.

Phaidon's Le Corbusier Le Grand

Find copies of Le Corbusier Le Grand on AbeBooks:

Le Corbusier Le Grand is an impressive visual biography of Charles-Edouard Jeanneret's work and his impact on modern architecture. In addition to being one of the most influential architects of the 20th century, he was also an artist, urban planner, theorist, furniture designer and author. He is better known by his pseudonym, Le Corbusier, a name he gave himself to distinguish his work as writer and theorist from his work as architect and artist.

The book is an impressive 16.5 inches tall and weighs 20 pounds, and includes 2000 illustrations and photographs. Many of them are rare, exposing his relationships with Josephine Baker, Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger and many others in previously unknown detail. Published in 2008 by Phaidon, prices range from $60 to $300 on AbeBooks.

Le Corbusier designed influential buildings throughout Europe and in the United States. In France he designed over 20 buildings including la Chapelle Notre Dame du Haut and Villa Savoye. The latter is an excellent example of Le Corbusier's Five Points of New Architecture which include replacing supporting walls with concrete columns, a roof garden, an open floor plan, horizontal windows and a large yard surrounding the building.

In India Le Corbusier was able to put his urban planning ideas to use on a grand scale, designing six buildings for the city of Chandigarh. The Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts at Harvard University is the only building in the United States that he designed. Le Corbusier has also designed buildings in Switzerland, France, Germany, Tokyo, Chile, Moscow, Rio de Janeiro, Argentina, Italy and wrote 16 books.
