Riga is the capital and largest city of Latvia. With 641,481 inhabitants (2016), it is also the largest city in the three Baltic states, home to one third of Latvia's population and one tenth of the three Baltic states' combined population.The city lies on the Gulf of Riga, at the mouth of the Daugava. Riga's territory covers 307.17 km2 (118.60 sq mi) and lies 1–10 m (3 ft 3 in–32 ft 10 in) above sea level,on a flat and sandy plain.
Riga was founded in 1201 and is a former Hanseatic League member. Riga's historical centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, noted for its Art Nouveau/Jugendstil architecture and 19th century wooden architecture.Riga was the European Capital of Culture during 2014, along with Umeå in Sweden.
Jūrmala is a city in Latvia, about 25 kilometres (16 miles) west of Riga. Jūrmala is a resort town stretching 32 km (20 miles) and sandwiched between the Gulf of Riga and the Lielupe River. It has a 33 km (21 miles) stretch of white-sand beach, and a population of 56,646, making it the fifth largest city in Latvia.

Kena parks ir viens no Jēkabpils pilsētas parkiem, kas atrodas pie Vienības ielas iepretīm autoostai.[1]
Kena parka dīķis. 1950. gadi.
Parks radās 18. gadsimtā, kad Jēkabpilī pilsētas īpašumus iegūst Kena muižnieku dzimta, kura uzbūvē muižu, kas ir saglabājusies līdz mūsu dienām un atrodas Dambja ielā 19. Šī muiža līdz pat 1. Pasaules karam piederēja slavenajam liķieru fabrikas īpašniekam Kenam. Kena aizraušanās bija koku stādīšana un parku veidošana, tāpēc blakus savai muižai sāka veidot parku. Parka veidošanā tika izmantots 3E princips- ekonomisks, ekoloģisks un estētisks. Parka platība ir 4,1 hektāri. Kens iestādīja tikai Latvijā sastopamos kokus, parkā kopumā tika iestādīti 1004 koki, galvenokārt lapu koki, kuru vidū tikai seši skujkoki, tāpat arī 2135 dekoratīvie krūmi grupās. Sākotnēji Kena parkam apkārt atradusies dekoratīva sēta. Agrāk šajā parkā notikušas zaļumballes. 1980. gados parks tika labiekārtots. Tika iztīrīts blakus esošais dīķis, un pār to tika uzcelts gājēju tiltiņš. Tika pārbūvēts arī deju placis ar estrādi. Padomju gados parkā atradušies arī karuseļi. Mūsdienās Kena parks ir atpūtas parks, kurā norisinās arī dažādi pilsētas pasākumi.
Vecpilsētas laukums
Pilsētas dibināšanas laikā 17. gadsimtā tas ir bijis valsts, tas ir, hercoga īpašumā un tā izmantošana bija saistīta ar ostas darbību, jo tai bez laivu piestātnēm bija nepieciešamas arī saimniecības un dzīvojamās ēkas, kā arī noliktavas. Tā tika atdāvināta 1715. gadā baziliāņu klosterim, kurš nodega 1773. gadā un tā vietā 1783. gadā tika uzcelts mūra klosteris ar mūra baznīcu. Dominējošā loma bija kvartāla Rietumu malā izvietotajai uniātu baznīcai, kas tagad ir Vissvētās Dievmātes patvēruma pareizticīgo baznīca, kas pacēlās pāri kvartāla apbūvei. 18. gadsimtā ap vecpilsētas laukumu koncentrējās galvenās sabiedriskās celtnes. 20. gadsimta sākums ir laiks, kurā izveidojās pašreizējais Vecpilsētas laukums kā pilsētas laukums, kurš tika izmantots kā tirgus laukums līdz pat 20. gadsimta sešdesmito gadu sākumam, kad daļu laukuma sāka izmantot arī autoostas vajadzībām, bet daļu kā autostāvvietu. 1936. gadā blakus laukumam tika uzbūvēts Aizsargu nams (tagad Tautas nams). 1920. gadu beigās laukuma dienvidrietumu stūrī tika uzbūvēta pirmā firmas Shell benzīna uzpildes stacija (pašlaik saldumu veikals). No 2005. gada pēc jaunas autoostas uzbūvēšanas Vecpilsētas laukums tika izmantots kā pilsētas galvenā autostāvvieta.
Trešdienas trigs laukums
Šajā vietā hercogs Jēkabs 1670.gada 12.februārī pasludināja pilsētu par nodibinātu. Trešdienās te notika aktīva tirgošanās, tas bija vecākais pilsētas tirgus un agrākais vēsturiskais centrs. Šajā vietā atrodas arī Jēkabpils 330 gadu jubilejas piemiņas akmens.

???? In this film, you can see what to visit in Latvia in the summer if you drive from Madona to Riga. This time we stopped in two places Kalsnava of Madona County and Liepkalni near Plavinas. Interesting story of Daugava transformation, beautiful flower fields, and history of Liepkalnu Bakery. The Liepkalnu bakery is located on the right bank of the Daugava river in the lower part of Lower Daugava, Klintaines parish, Aizkraukle district, on the right bank of the Daugava near the town of Pļaviņas.
The ancient valley of Daugava is the most transformed natural area in Latvia. It was this section of the Daugava between Pļaviņas and Koknesi that was the most beautiful and powerful. The river flowed in a deep canyon-like valley, and dolomite cliffs up to 15-20 m high were exposed on the banks, the most outstanding of which was Oliņkalns with Andreja crag and on the other side of the river Staburags with Liepavota, boulders, rapids, ravines, and springs.
Now it is all covered by the Pļaviņu HPP water reservoir, only 1-4 m high dolomite walls rise above the normal water level (72 m above sea level), but Olinkalns is now a 350 m long and 130 m wide island.
Staburags is now preserved only in legends and literary works, as well as, of course, in memories and photographs, because it was one of the most popular excursion destinations even 60 years ago. It was. With the construction of the Pļaviņu HPP, Staburags went to the bottom of the Daugava, but the Koknese castle ruins, which once stood on the top of the hill, are now at the water level itself. Lokstenes shrine is a shrine opened on May 6, 2017, on the Daugava island near Pļaviņas, which includes the main building, a transfer house, a gathering and flag square, a stone image, and the Gate of the Sun. About Liepkalni bakery

In 1992, brothers Dagnis and Didzis Čākuri established the farm Liepkalni in Naukšēni parish near the border of Estonia, recovering their grandfather's land - 42 hectares and started growing grain.
From the grain he grew, he began to bake bread not only for his family but for the surrounding parishes.
In January 2006, they solemnly opened another bakery equipped with the latest technology in Liepsala - on the banks of the Daugava near Pļaviņas in Klintaines parish. AUTUMN IN SIGULDA, LATVIA (Day Trip from Riga to Gauja National Park)
To make the most out of our 2 weeks in Riga, Latvia, we decided to take a short train ride into the Latvian countryside to visit the BEAUTIFUL town of Sigulda. It's autumn so the colors of the trees are absolutely spectacular and we decided to spend the day hiking.
After arriving in Sigulda, we stop in at a bakery, visit a castle, and then venture into Gauja National Park where we visit a historical cave. It was an incredible day spent in nature!

This is second day of our trip around Baltic states. We spent most of our day in Latvia visiting Sigulda and Turaida castles , Gutmani's cave and few more interesting places which you can see in the video. This day we managed 260km , but it was long day visiting all this amazing places. And final stop for the day was camping place in Estonia on the coast of Baltic state.

The Riga Ghetto was a small area in Maskavas Forštate, a neighborhood of Riga, Latvia, designated by the Nazis where Jews from Latvia, and later from Germany, were forced to live during World War II. On October 25, 1941, the Nazis relocated all Jews from Riga and the vicinity to the ghetto while the non-Jewish inhabitants were evicted. Most of the Latvian Jews (about 24,000) were killed on November 30 and December 8, 1941 in the Rumbula massacre. The Nazis transported a large number of German Jews to the ghetto; most of them were later killed in massacres.
While the Riga Ghetto is commonly referred to as a single entity, in fact there were several ghettos. The first was the large Latvian ghetto. After the Rumbula massacre, the surviving Latvian Jews were concentrated in a smaller area within the original ghetto, which became known as the small ghetto. The small ghetto was divided into men's and women's sections. The area of the ghetto not allocated to the small ghetto was then reallocated to the Jews being deported from Germany, and became known as the German ghetto.Wikipedia
