Maithon Dam || मैथन डैम || Explore Jharkhand - S01Ep04
The Maithon Dam is located at Maithon, 48 km from Dhanbad, in the state of Jharkhand. It is 15,712 ft (4,789 m) long and 165 ft (50 m). high. This dam was specially designed for flood control and generates 60,000 kW of electric power. There is an underground power station, the first of its kind in the whole of South East Asia. The dam is constructed on the Barakar River. The lake is spread over 65 square kilometres (25 sq mi).

पर्यटक की दृष्टि से मैथन डैम का महत्वपूर्ण स्थान है,यहाँ हजारों की संख्या में पर्यटक प्रतिदिन आते है जिससे पूरा शहर पर्वतीय नगरी जैसा लगता है।
भारत वर्ष के झारखण्ड प्रदेश में स्थित मैथन डैम दामोदरवाली वैली कार्पोरेशन का सबसे बड़ा जलाशय है इसके आस पास के सुन्दर प्राकृतिक वातावरण पर्यटकों को बरबस ही अपनी और आकर्षित कर लेता है।बराकर नदी के ऊपर बने इस बांध का निर्माण बाढ़ को रोकने के लिए किया गया था
दिसंबर और जनवरी में हर रविवार को फ्लावर शो लगता है जहाँ आप को रंग बी रंगी फूल देखने को मिलेंगे।
Note :- (1) मैथन डैम से 4 किलोमीटर दूर संजय चौक के पास रहने के लिए होटल है।
मैथन डैम का नजदीकी रेलवे स्टेशन कुमाडुब्बी है जिसकी दुरी 9 किलोमीटर है वहाँ से by auto जिसका किराया 100 से 150 रुपये है आप आ सकते है।
सुबह आने के लिए सबसे अच्छी ट्रैन ब्लैक डायमंड और वापस जाने के लिए कोल्डफील्ड ट्रेन है।

Maithon is a Town located in Jharkhand-West Bengal Border. Most of the township part and reservoir is in Jharkhand and the Hydel is located in west Bengal. The place is stretched between Dhanbad Dist. In Jharkhand and Burdwan Dist in Bengal.

Maithon is a very famous picnic and weekend destination. The Dam is the Biggest dam of damodar valley corporation and was built for flood control and power generation. It was founded by India's first prime minister Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru. Maithon got its name from Mai-ka-sthan or maayer sthan which literally means mothers abode as there is an ancient kalyaneshwari temple here which was built by the king of Barakar in 16th century.

It is famous for blue water and green forests,small islands,boating and water sports,deer park,historitical temples,hills,adivasi villages,underground hydel power station,bunglows on islands,small wild animals etc.
It's 25km far from Asansol and around 50km from Dhanbad & around 230km from Kolkata. Nearest railway station is Kumardubi,all trains going to Dhanbad pass by Kumardubi. Can be reached by minibus from Aaansol,auto from Barakar or by car. Nearest roadlink is Sanjay Chowk in NH2 bypass or Dubudi Checkpost,NH2 bypass near Kalyaneswari.

पर्यटन की दृष्टि से मैथन बाँध का महत्त्वपूर्ण स्थान है। यहाँ हजारों की संख्या में पर्यटक प्रतिदिन पहुँचते हैं जिससे पूरा शहर पर्वतीय नगरी जैसा लगता है। इस शहर की शांति अनायास आकर्षित कर लेती है। यहाँ आवागमन के लिए दिल्ली और मुंबई सहित देश के कई भागों से रांची और पटना के लिए वायु सेवाएं उपलब्ध हैं। रांची और पटना हवाई अड्डे से बसों व टैक्सियों द्वारा पर्यटक आसानी से धनबाद तक पहुँच सकते हैं। बराकर और कुमारधुबी यहाँ के निकटतम रेलवे-स्टेशन हैं, जो यहाँ से ८ कि॰मी॰ की दूरी पर स्थित है। धनबाद और गोमो इस शहर के मुख्य रेलवे स्टेशन हैं, जो देश के विभिन्न स्थलों से सीधे रेल-सेवा द्वारा जुड़े हुए हैं। मैथन के लिए धनबाद, आसनसोल तथा बराकर से हर समय बस सेवा उपलब्ध है।
भारतवर्ष के झारखंड प्रदेश में स्थित धनबाद से ५२ किमी दूर मैथन बांध दामोदर वैली कारपोरेशन का सबसे बड़ा जलाशय है। इसके आस-पास का सौंदर्य पर्यटकों को बरबस ही अपनी ओर आकर्षित कर लेता है।[1] बराकर नदी के ऊपर बने इस बाँध का निर्माण बाढ़ को रोकने के लिए किया गया था। बाँध के नीचे एक पावर स्टेशन का भी निर्माण किया गया है, जो दक्षिण पूर्व एशिया में अपने आप में आधुनिकतम तकनीक का उदाहरण माना जाता है। इसकी परिकल्पना जवाहरलाल नेहरू ने की थी। इसके पास ही माँ कल्याणेश्वरी का एक अति प्राचीन मंदिर भी है। लगभग ६५ वर्ग कि॰मी॰ में फैले इस बाँध के पास एक झील भी है जहाँ नौकायन और आवासीय सुविधाएँ उपलब्ध है। इसके अतिरिक्त एक मृगदाव तथा पक्षी विहार भी है, जहाँ पर्यटक जंगल के प्राकृतिक सौन्दर्य तथा विभिन्न किस्म के पशु-पक्षियों को देख सकते है। १५,७१२ फीट लंबे और १६५ फीट ऊँचे इस बाँध से ६०,००० किलोवाट बिजली का उत्पादन होता है।

Few km away (approx 23km) from Asansol, the City of Brotherhood, there is a place called #Maithon. This place is famous as picnic and tourist spot in asansol and surroundings. People rush to visit this place even from kolkata area.
The Maithon Dam was built on 1924, in the era of World War II. A horrible flood took place that separated Kolkata from the rest of the country. Govt. took immediate action and a Civil engineer of Tenesy Valley Autherity(TVA) planned this dam.
48 km away from Dhanbad, this place Maithon is called The Place of Goddess. The dam on Barakar river was designed by DVA at USA and can produce 6000 kilowatt electic power.
It has other underground electricity hubs which is 1st of its kind in south Asia region.
The total lake is spreaded around 65km large area.(length: 4789 metre, height: 50 metre).

Bathanbadi is another beautiful place near Maithon dam and the lake and surrounded with lake water from 3 sides. the name came from a countryside called Bathanbadi.

We pushed our limits and went to the furthest places of bathanbadi which is still unexplored because it flooded during the monsoon.

Amarnath Shiv mandir is located at top Bhandar Pahar ( Bhandar hill ) . It is very close to our hotel, in fact we could see the Mandir from my hotel balcony . We climbed the rocks to reach top. From here you can see full views of Maithon Dam. Approach road to temple is full of stones , so it’s a almost 45 degree climbing along the hilly roads . You can locate the entry gate near check naka before entering DVC dam area.Bhandar pahar mandir is the oldest temple and Also Known as Pahari Baba Temple.
We spend some time there, very cools views of vast swathe of greens forests over the hill rocks and dam made our mind fresh.

Dam is famous for scenic natural beauty, blue water, flora and fauna. It was developed by Damodar Valley Corporation. 'MAITHON' literally means 'mai ka sthan' (i.e. mother's abode).

HOW TO REACH : Maithon is about 48 KMs from Dhanbad and about 35 KMs from Asansol (west Bengal).Kumardhubi is the nearest railway station. Maithon is about 9 KMs from Kumardhubi station. Taxis and autorikshaw can be hired. Mini Buses from Asansol Bus Stand ply to Maithon.
BEST PERIOD TO VISIT: Generally , April -June is the hottest season Dhanbad being the coal city but evenings are good with cool breezes. July- september arrives monsoon. October - February is considered to be the best season.
EAT OUTS & STAYS: There are stalls at the entrance fo the dam and shops near Mazumdar Niwas. Many decent budget hotels are available around the dam, kalyaneshwari and sanjay chowk.
