I was expecting a fun and leisurely day in this charming Mexican lake town called Ajijic, but then this happened... (bonus: my first ???? ukulele/singing ???? debut)

Recently, I've been house hunting in Mexico, looking for the perfect home to buy. After viewing a few options in Queretaro (my former home of 1 year), I decided to check out Ajijic at Lake Chapala because I lived here for about 4 months back in 2018 and really enjoyed my time here.
Ajijic, Jalisco is known for having one of the largest communities of foreigners in Mexico. Hundreds of Americans and Canadians flock here every year. That's a selling feature for some and a turn-off for others. In any case, Ajijic certainly has lots of small-town charm with it's cobblestone streets, pleasant weather year-round, beautiful nature, and diverse restaurant scene.
In today's Mexico vlog, I am spending a day in Ajijic to try and decide whether this town is somewhere I'd like to live and/or buy a home! What do you think?

We're one of the thousands of expats who adore the charming qualities of Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico. But it's true, there are some details that aren't the greatest. We wanted to make this video to give people the full picture on Ajijic (the negative details you might even call deal breakers) to make sure people can make an educated decision about moving to or retiring in Ajijic.
As Americans living in Mexico, we think the Lake Chapala area as a lot to offer. But it's not without its downsides.
If you're considering retiring in a Latin America country, Mexico could very well be a great fit! Immigration from the US is extremely common, there are more migrants coming to Lake Chapala every day!
Although the Ajijic area has a lot going for it, it can be hard to find information about the negative side of things. This video is your resource!

While we were there, we tried out horseback riding for the first time, enjoyed Thai food, and relaxed at this huge former hacienda/mansion with stretching, meditation, homemade breakfasts...and one REALLY unexpected surprise. Mexico continues to shock us.

What is the climate in Lake Chapala?
The lake and surrounding mountains ensure warm daytime temperatures throughout the year, averaging a mild 74 F. And, because Lake Chapala sits at 5,000 feet above sea level, humidity is not a problem. ... Once the rain starts the temperature cools as much as 10 degrees and the mountains turn a lush green again.
The coolest months of Ajijic weather are December and January with an average daytime high temperature of 24°c/75° f but it has been known to dip down to 15°c/60°f at times. February and March are very pleasant months with an average daytime temperature in the high 20's celcius/70's fahrenhiet.

TOP 50 of Houses FOR SALE NEAR the shore of lake Chapala - Market Study carried out in FEBRUARY 2024
Do you want to buy a property that, in addition to having a BEAUTIFUL view of Lake Chapala, has a certain proximity to the lake shore; that allows you – WITH EASE – to carry out different AQUATIC activities or on the shore of the lake; such as: fishing, kayaking, canoeing, boating, jet skiing, water skiing, parasailing. On this list, number 50 is the FARTHEST from the lake; that is, the one that TAKES THE LONGEST to go from the property to the lake shore. While, number 1: will be the CLOSEST to the lake; That is, it TAKES THE LESS TIME to get from the property to the lake shore.
For each property, I will show you:
1. Geographic location on a map;
2. Google Map results regarding the time it takes WALKING, by CAR or MOTORCYCLE, to go from each property to the lake shore.
3. A photograph of the lake view from the NEAREST shore of each property.
4. Photographs showing the views that each property has of the Lake;
5. Price of the ;
6. Number of rooms;
7. Number of bathrooms;
8. Number of floors;
9. Lot size: in square meters and feet;
10. Construction size: also in square meters and feet;
11. As well as the name and website of the real estate agency that has advertised said property for sale on the Internet.
The 50 homes on this list are located in 13 locations on the west side of Lake CHAPALA; and ACTUALLY, the WEST is the highest real estate value side of the lake.
