Staying close to the coast of Brazil, this town in the north, in the state of Bahia, is one of the best places to travel in Brazil. A perfect mix of chill beach, good waves to surf, a relaxed town, I love Itacare.

My first place in Bahia was this little town of Trancoso. Similar to Itacare, it is very small, very chill, and at times can have some good surf, however, every day, rain or shine, the beach is terrific.

When it comes to surfing, there are endless possibilities. Itacaré is a very welcoming place for any kind of surfer, whether you are a beginner or a professional. The city is a starting point for many athletes, such as Davi Silva. This place is all about surfing, not only as an activity but as part of its culture, lifestyle and economy.

Top 05 Beaches - Bahia - Brazil
Hello and welcome to Discovering Brazil, the channel that explores the beauty and diversity of this incredible country. Today, we're going to discover the top 5 beaches of Bahia, a state that combines African, Indigenous, and Portuguese influences in its culture, cuisine, and music. Get ready to feel the rhythm of the waves!
Beach 1: Praia do Forte
Our first stop is Praia do Forte, a beach that combines history, ecology, and relaxation. This beach has a fortress built by the Portuguese in the 16th century to protect the coast from pirates and invaders, as well as a turtle conservation project that releases hatchlings into the sea. Fun fact: Praia do Forte was visited by Barack Obama and his family in 2019, who enjoyed the beach and the local cuisine.
Beach 2: Praia de Guarajuba
Next, we have Praia de Guarajuba, a beach that offers a mix of adventure and tranquility. This beach has sand dunes that you can slide down, as well as a lagoon that you can paddle or swim in. Did you know that Praia de Guarajuba was the location of the first Brazilian edition of the reality TV show Survivor in 2000, which tested the survival skills and endurance of the contestants?
Beach 3: Praia de Itacimirim
Moving on, we arrive at Praia de Itacimirim, a beach that enchants with its natural beauty and cultural richness. This beach has coconut trees, mangroves, and a river that meets the sea, as well as a Quilombo community that preserves the Afro-Brazilian heritage and traditions. A fascinating fact about Praia de Itacimirim is that it was the inspiration for the song Oração ao Tempo by the Brazilian singer Caetano Veloso, who praised its pure and gentle atmosphere.
Beach 4: Praia de Morro de São Paulo
Our fourth beach is Praia de Morro de São Paulo, a beach that combines history, nightlife, and adventure. This beach has a colonial fortress that you can visit, as well as bars and clubs that you can dance in, and a cliff that you can jump off into the sea. An interesting fact about Praia de Morro de São Paulo is that it was a former hideout of pirates and buccaneers in the 17th and 18th centuries, who used its strategic location to attack Spanish and Portuguese ships.
Beach 5: Praia de Trancoso
Last but not least, we have Praia de Trancoso, a beach that exudes charm, elegance, and simplicity. This beach has colorful houses, a square with a church, and a cliff that offers a panoramic view of the sea. A curious fact about Praia de Trancoso is that it was the destination of a private wedding party of the Brazilian model Gisele Bündchen and the American football player Tom Brady in 2009, who chose the beach for its rustic and romantic vibe.

Brazilian beaches south of Itacare. Like a pearl necklace you find the small beaches south of the coastal town Itacaré in Bahia state. Some beaches are fairly easy to access, while others require more walking. Mid February 2020, before Corona-19 hit Brazil, I was there with a friend to enjoy the beautiful beaches with my drone, a DJI Mavic Air. We parked the car and walked along the beaches during an entire day.

Itacare Bahia Brazil
Itacaré is a town in the cocoa zone of the state of Bahia in Brazil, south of Salvador. It is located 70 km north of Ilhéus where the Rio de Contas, which comes from the Chapada Diamantina, meets the Atlantic Ocean. Itacaré has about 27,000 residents. Out of these, approximately 50% live in the rural interior. A mixture of races - Amerindian, black and white - can be seen in the features of the natives, called nação grapiúna, who Jorge Amado affectionately referred to as the captivating people of this land. was founded as a Portuguese colonial settlement, originally called São Jorge dos Ilhéus, in 1532. The town was a notorious hangout for Dutch and Portuguese pirates during the early colonial period and later became a hub for the cocoa planting and a port for whalers. It was officially given city status in 1881.
After a massive blight of Vassoura de Bruxa (Witch's broom) devastated the region's cocoa crops in the 1980s, Itacaré has depended mostly upon tourism. It is a popular destination for surfers, hikers and ecotourists. The town has a series of beautiful small cove type beaches and other picturesque beaches further along the coast. Itacaré is on the edge of a national park, one of the last large expanses of Atlantic rain forest left in Brazil.
The change from sleepy agrarian town to tourist hotspot has not been an easy one, however. Locals recently won a hard-fought campaign to stop land owners who wanted to charge for access to the beaches.
Access to one of the most pristine beaches, Prainha, has been blocked by a hotel/condominium development called Sao Jose Eco Resort. Both Prainha and Sao Jose beaches are now accessible by foot, free of charge.
Despite development in the area, it remains a hub of Bahian culture. Many tourists visit Itacaré to take part in the local Capoeira circles and eat traditional Brazilian food. The town is flooded with revelers during New Year's and Carnival.
Itacaré has been mentioned as one of the worlds top 10 best small towns
