What to Do in Nimes and Avignon? | France Travel Guide
Join us on our trip to France where we travel to the historic cities of Nîmes, Avignon, Arles, and Orange located in southern France, and hold some of the best preserved examples of ancient Roman architecture and history.
In Episode 11 of our Eurotrip 2020 series, we feature highlights of our trip around the southern France region starting with a morning visit to the city of Nîmes where we explore the various Roman architecture and historic sites throughout the city including the Arena of Nîmes, Maison Carrée, and the Temple de Diane located in the beautiful Les Jardins de la Fontaine.
We stop for a few hours at the famous Pont du Gard, a UNESCO site and one of the best preserved examples of Roman architecture, specifically of an aqueduct bridge, in the world. The views here are so lovely!
We based ourselves in the city of Avignon, known for the historic Palais des Papes, a historical palace and fortress in southern France, which was once the seat of Western Christianity! From here we explored the city of Arles which contains several examples of Roman architecture collectively referred to as the Roman and Romanesque Monuments of Arles, all listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Lastly, we visited the city of Orange which contains of the the best preserved examples of all Roman theatres. These cities are a short distance away from Avignon, so definitely recommend staying here for a few days.

Video and photos in 4K I have made with iPhone 12 Pro during my trip in 2022 to the Camargue region in Provence, France, including aerial videos taken with my drone Dji Mini 3 Pro. The video includes the following highlights: Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer (capital of the Camargue) and its beaches, the white horses, the ornithological park with its wildlife including pink flamingos.

Camargue is a natural region in southern France located south of the city of Arles, between the Mediterranean Sea and the two arms of the Rhône river delta. The eastern arm is called the Grand Rhône; the western one is the Petit Rhône. It constitutes western Europe's largest river delta.
Administratively it lies within the department of Bouches-du-Rhône (Mouths of the Rhône); it covers parts of the territory of the communes of Arles, Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône. A further expanse of marshy plain, known as the Petite Camargue (Little Camargue), just to the west of the Petit Rhône, lies within the department of Gard.
Camargue was designated a Ramsar site as a Wetland of International Importance on 1 December 1986. The Petite Camargue followed on 8 January 1996.
Camargue is home to more than 400 species of birds and has been identified as an Important Bird Area (IBA) by BirdLife International. Its brine ponds provide one of the few European habitats for the greater flamingo. The marshes are also a prime habitat for many species of insects, notably (and notoriously) some of the most ferocious mosquitos to be found anywhere in France. Camargue horses (Camarguais) roam the extensive marshlands, along with Camargue cattle.
The native flora of Camargue have adapted to the saline conditions. Sea lavender and glasswort flourish, along with tamarisks and reeds.

Driving Along French Riviera - Marseille to Fréjus

We're on another adventure! This time we decided to rent a car and drive along the French Riviera (La Côte d’Azur). It's always been a dream to visit the small seaside towns nestled along the cliffs of the mediterranean. Unfortunately, we picked the one week where this fabulous spring weather decided to stop and give us rain; however to be honest, the bad weather actually held back for a good portion of our drive. Our trip, juxtaposed against the postcards one typically sees, gave us a very cool and different perspective. Seeing the mediterranean sea, which is typically calm and serene, produced menacing waves, and was fun to watch as we drove the winding roads along the coast of the French Riviera. The soft fluffy grayish clouds looked very ominous in the distance. These scenes contrasting with the beautifully colored homes nestled on the cliff sides gave us a different and awe inspiring journey.

La France possède 4 avions radar de type Awacs. Ces avions sont normalement basés sur la Base Aérienne d'Avord, mais compte tenu de travaux; celle-ci est momentanément fermée. Les Awacs du moins une partie ont été déplacés dans le sud sur la Base Aérienne 125 de Istres. Ce n'est pas facile de capturer ces gros oiseaux partis faire de longues missions en vol. Ce cumulé au temps variable de notre région un jour de mauvais temps un jour de beau voire très beau Temps. Vous verrez dans ce film un Awacs au crépuscule en finale et remises de gaz. Puis une arrivée par grand beau temps. Je vous laisse profiter de l'Awacs.
