Inwood Hill park | New York City

Inwood Hill Park is a public park in the Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, operated by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. On a high schist ridge that rises 200 feet (61 m) above the Hudson River from Dyckman Street to the northern tip of the island, Inwood Hill Park's densely folded, glacially scoured topography contains the largest remaining old-growth forest on Manhattan Island. Unlike other Manhattan parks, Inwood Hill Park is largely natural and consists of mostly wooded, non-landscaped hills.

4k60 ???? New York City: City Nature of Inwood Piers

Filmed in a thunderstorm in September 2020 in northern Manhattan NYC. Inwood has beautiful bike paths and views of the Hudson River. It has beautiful hiking trails, baseball fields, a marina, and is super easy to get to from the A train.

About Inwood Hill Park:
Inwood Hill Park is a living piece of old New York. It is located in the northernmost place of Manhattan NYC. It's accessible through the NYC MTA subway. A few hiking trails and the Hudson River Bike Trail offer visitors a chance to appreciate large stretches of the park's natural beauty in an environmentally friendly manner. If you want to see Manhattan back in time with a forest grove of tulip trees, oaks, and maples, this is the place to go. It's quiet, peaceful and one of the best places to spot a bald eagle in manhattan.

There are four hiking trails in the park. The difficulty of the trails is ranked as MODERATE. A Hike through Inwood Hill Park takes you up close to American history, and even to the very formation of Manhattan Island.

How to get to Inwood Hill Park by subway:
Take the A train to Inwood, it's the last station. It's about 5 min walk from the subway station.

Points of Interest:
1. Glacial Potholes: The potholes were created by an eddy in the waters of the stream flowing beneath the melting ice of the Wisconsin glacier about 50,000 years ago when pebbles and gravel in the receding water actually drilled through the rock.

2. Overlook Meadow: a wonderful place to view the Hudson River and the New Jersey Palisades to the west.

3. Rock Formations: These giant slabs of schist were dropped in place by the Wisconsin glacier 50,000 years ago.

4. Shorakapok Rock: Shorakapok or Shorakkopoch Rock marks the area believed to be the site of the “selling” of Manhattan between Peter Minuit and the Native Americans.

5. Inwood Salt Marsh: the marsh is brackish (a mixture of fresh and saltwater), tidal, and home to a variety of animals such as mummichogs (small killifish that resemble minnows), mussels, snails, crabs, and a variety of waterfowl.

TOP TO BOTTOM IN 7 HOURS (New York City Food, Sights, History and Life on Manhattan Island)

We start in Marble Hill the furthest north neighborhood in Manhattan, walk across Broadway Bridge and onto the island!

In Inwood we walk through the beautiful Highbridge Park w/ fall foliage and lots of elevation gain!

1st official stop is the Morris - Jumel Mansion, the oldest house in Manhattan. George Washington was once stationed here! This area is so cute and historic!

We pass a Netflix set, many universities, and take a detour when we see St. John the Divine, the biggest Cathedral in the world.

At this point we NEED those Absolute Bagels we have heard so much about on Instagram! We stock up for the rest of the week, and get an everything bagel w/ garlic chive cream cheese. It is ABSOLUTEly delicious, but is that just the walking talking?

After some quick samples from the nut factory, and more walking, we make it to Grey's Papaya, famous for one of NYC's biggest combos, hotdogs and juice! Two hotdogs and a drink with a $1 refill, it is absolutely phenomenal! The piña colada and coconut champagne juices (non alcoholic) are amazing!

A quick bathroom break at Starbucks, the Daily Show, through areas of NYC that are unexplored to tourists. We walk through all of the car dealerships, and discuss how different areas in this city specialize in different things.

Now we've made it to the futuristic section! Towering skyscrapers, the Empire State Building, and the New Yorker make for an incredible skyline, and we head to Hudson Yards to immerse ourselves even deeper into the futuristic architecture.

The Vessel is such a cool piece of architecture, and is lit so fun at night! We head from there to the High Line for a leisurely walk in one of our favorite parks in New York City.

From The High Line we see Little Island, just adding to the futuristic part of our day. This park is built on concrete stilts out in the river, and it is an absolute oasis!

Now we're almost finished! Walking alongside the river until we make it ti the Financial District, we admire the World Trade Center, Municipal, and Woolworth Buildings before FINALLY making it to the Battery for Statue of Liberty views!!!

WE FINALLY SIT! And reminisce on such a fun, oddly productive, and meditative day of madventuring.

We hope y'all enjoyed this absolutely crazy madventure in NYC! We are absolutely loving spending time in this city, there is always something insane to do. Thank you for watching!

Welcome to madventure, we're MADison and iVEN (okay it is spelled Ivan, but pronounced like VENture) a husband and wife living the adventure we have been dreaming of, despite the fact that it makes us sound completely mad. For us that looks like traveling full time and starting our own businesses.

For Madison, a former reality TV producer, the dream is the madventure community, connecting people through travel, experiencing new cultures, and trying the best foods from carts, stands and restaurants all over the world. She hopes to encourage others to follow their maddest most adventurous dreams, whatever they may be!

For Ivan, a former NASA engineer, it is creating an engineering product that will change the world!

Travel and food are two of our biggest passions, so on this channel we will be traveling the world, and staying awhile to experience what life is actually like living other places. Walking the entire Manhattan!!

I walked the entire Manhattan in one go, from Inwood Hills Park in the north, to Battery Park in the south. New York City is a versatile experience, from Uptown and Harlem, through Central Park and Times Square to Chelsea, the Village, World Trade Center and the bank district before reaching Battery Park and seeing the Statue of Liberty.
