1 Day as a Tourist in Maldon, Essex, England | UK Travel Vlog

Welcome all to my brand new UK Travel vlog, 1 Day as a Tourist in Maldon!

Join me as I explore the nooks and crannies of this fantastic Essex Town, from the brilliant locals to the rich history.

Starting at the old Maldon Railway I take you on a journey uncovering the history of the great battle of Maldon between the Saxons and the Vikings. From there I accost some local ladies down a back street to talk about the famous Fat Man of Maldon and show you where he is buried. After popping in to the brilliant woof and co I take you around Hythe Quay and Promenade park for a museum tour and to meet some proper Maldon characters!

Let's Go!

And here's some information on our sponsor for this video, Woof and Co:

At Woof & Co. we try to be different from your regular pet store and believe dogs should be fed high quality food. After all they are family members and as much as we all love a fast food takeaway occasionally, you wouldn’t feed your child it everyday, so why should your dog be any different? We stock a wide range of natural, healthy treats, from our popular sausage bites to hairy deer legs. Products like our sausage bites are sold loose by weight so you can try as many or as little as you want and all of our other natural treats are sold individually so you can create your own tasty selection for your dog.

We love having dogs come in store and visit us and customers are welcome to try on any of our trendy coats, collars and harnesses on their dog.

We’re open 7 days a week and you can purchase online too on our website.

Why not make a day out of it to come visit us with so many high street shops and food establishments being dog friendly and the beautiful Maldon Promenade is a fun place to go for both children and dogs.

About Edinburgh and its tourist attractions and sightseeing:

Edinburgh always attracted tourists from all over the world by its mysterious and surprising legends. The ancient houses and locks, shrouded in dense fog, and also numerous sights attract millions of tourists every year here. Perhaps, we shouldn't even say where you must glance, getting acquainted with the capital of whiskey. You will find the best shops of this drink on Royal Mile.

Edinburgh is the city, where the Scottish spirit can be felt as vividly, as nowhere else. A bagpipe and a kilt are a part of everyday life even these days. Scottish food, which consists only of healthy products, is well-known for its high quality. Basically, Scottish food is based on such ingredients as beef, lamb, game and a lot of fish. Not only Scottish cheese and Scottish beer are known all over the world, but also Scottish whisky.

The Edinburgh Castle is the most popular place of interest; it seems that the castle just hovers over the center of Edinburgh. If you use the drawbridge and go inside the castle, you will see the well-known Stone of Fortune, a sacred Scottish relic. Many years ago English and Scottish monarchs were crowned here. From the castle one can enjoy a wonderful view of the whole city. The Edinburgh Castle is often used as the location of the Annual Festival of Army Orchestras. The Edinburgh Festival, which takes place on the New Year's Day, is a great way to see magnificent holiday fireworks. More than that, in Edinburgh tourists can see interesting performances dedicated to new adventures of Harry Potter.

The Palace of Holyroodhouse, which used to be the place of gossips, murders and political intrigues, is nowadays the official residence of the Queen. It's situated right in the centre of the medieval Royal Mile, the central street, which leads to the Edinburgh Palace. It was the place, where Maria Stuart spent the worst days of her life.

Edinburgh is a popular tourist destination with developed tourism infrastructure and tourism industry in general. The tourism sector is of great importance to Edinburgh.

1 Day as a Tourist in Witham, Essex, England | Uk Travel Vlog

In this UK Travel Vlog '1 day as a tourist in Witham' I explore the Town of Witham in Essex within the district of Braintree in Essex.

Starting from the church I make my way through the town, then through the stunning river walk where I managed to accost a few locals to have a chin wag with. After a laugh at the skate park with a couple of local lads I return to the town to uncover some history and a tragic event involving a grenade which took place at a house next to the war memorial in WW1.

My trip to Witham ends with an incredible meal at Spanish Restaurant, El Pulpo and a Gin & Tonic at the fabulously quirky, Charlies Cocktail Bar.

Enjoy!

Great Dunmow Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Essex, and around 20 miles west of Colchester, is the town of Great Dunmow.

Geographically, Great Dunmow is situated adjacent to Stane Street - a Roman road linking Colchester to Braughing in Hertfordshire. It is believed that a small Roman settlement existed here, though the earliest reference to the town of today dates back to 951 AD where it was recorded as 'Dunemowe'.

In 1253, during the reign of Henry III, a market charter was granted to Great Dunmow. During the medieval era it thrived as a commercial centre.

To this day, the town is host to an ancient tradition known as the Dunmow Flitch Trials. This is claimed to date back to 1104 when the Lord of the Manor and his wife dressed themselves as humble folk and begged blessing of the Prior a year and a day after marriage. Impressed by their fidelity, the Prior bestowed upon them a flitch of bacon (n.b. 'flitch' refers to half of a pig that has been cut in half lengthways). The Lord of the Manor then revealed his true identity and gave his land to the Priory on the condition a flitch should be awarded to any couple who could claim they were equally devoted to one another. Thus, they would convince a jury of six local bachelors and six local maidens that, for a year and a day, they have never wished themselves unwed. This practice is referenced in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales - specifically the Wife of Bath's Tale. The Flitch Trials are held every four years, with successful couples paraded through the High Street, receiving a flitch of bacon.

In 1742 Lionel Lukin was born in Great Dunmow. In 1784 he invented the 'unimmergible boat', a forerunner of the lifeboat. His first experiments with model boats were carried out on Doctor's Pond, seen shortly after the 12-minute mark.

In 1869 a railway station opened in Great Dunmow. It formed part of the Bishop's Stortford-Braintree branch line - a line that closed to passengers in 1952. Today, public transport to Great Dunmow consists of direct bus services from nearby settlements including Chelmsford, Braintree, Saffron Walden and Bishop's Stortford. Furthermore, there are regular bus services to Stansted Airport which is situated just five miles to the west.

Welcome everyone to my brand new Youtube travel vlog

My trip starts off randomly, when walking down a country lane, I decided to let the first road sign I saw dictate where I next travelled too…I ended up at a cafe I'd coincidently been before! I won’t ruin exactly where that is…

We visit Ingatestone Hall and a Tudor Fair where we discover some real Tudors

The reenactment societies of the UK are in full swing at the moment. Thirty years ago there was the Sealed Knot and such like who reenacted old Civil War battles but nowadays it seems historical reenactment has been taken to a new level. Not only do we get a glimpse of the battles of old but the lives of the ordinary people, both high and low.

The message that comes across is that life in the Tudor period, apart from the odd beheading and stake burning, was pretty good for the average Englishman. One does detect a hint of Merrie England in the air, which might be a post-Brexit phenomena. The UK is living in hope that keeping its distance from the EU is a good thing.

The looming approach of a change of Monarch appears to be coinciding with a cultural shift that one can see taking place. The large immigrant population has been embraced, but integration is now the byword. Plus there is a recognition that cultural exchange is a two way thing.

A Walk Around This Friendly Area

SAFFRON WALDEN MEDIEVAL ENGLISH TOWN WALKING TOUR ,ENGLAND COUNTRYSIDE

Saffron Walden is a market town in the Uttlesford district of Essex, England, 12 miles (19 km) north of Bishop's Stortford, 15 miles (24 km) south of Cambridge and 43 miles (69 km) north of London. It retains a rural appearance and some buildings of the medieval period.Archaeological evidence suggests continuous settlement on or near the site of Saffron Walden from at least the Neolithic period.[3] It is believed that a small Romano-British settlement and fort – possibly in the area round Abbey Lane – existed as an outpost of the much larger settlement of Cestreforda to the north
