Palm Springs became famous starting around the 1950’s when Hollywood stars would flock here for relaxation and parties, often by the pool, with a craft cocktail in hand. Known for its hiking, mid-century modern architecture, natural beauty, and did I mention sparkling pools, with lazy rivers, water slides, and swim up bars? Rain is rare here with over 300 days of sunshine per year, perfect for playing golf at the regions 100+ golf courses. About 400,000 people call this area home, but the city gets its name from the approximately 10,000 palm trees that grow here.

Visiting Indio & Palm Springs During Springtime | Resort & Hiking
We took a trip to Indio, CA, where we went on hikes and visited unique places.
We stayed at the Worldmark Indio, which is a resort with condos that we rented on AirBnB. It’s a well-landscaped place that was fun to walk around.
There was a shallow pool for young kids where we spent a lot of time in. Next to the kiddie pool was a larger pool to play in.
We headed out to the Pushwalla Palms Trailhead. It’s a mostly rocky trail that leads to a palm tree oasis, but we didn’t go all the way. There was a steep and narrow part of the trail that was a bit challenging for our kids, but offered great views. After we got to the top, we turned around and went back down.
Across the street from that trail is the Coachella Valley Preserve, a large area of palm trees with a lot of different trails going out from it. One of those trails is a boardwalk that goes through a swampy area.
We also headed into Palm Springs to visit the Sunnylands Center & Gardens. There’s an indoor exhibit of contemporary art. Outdoors are beautiful gardens full of desert plants.
The Indio and Palm Springs area was a fun place to visit in the spring for relaxation and hiking.
[4K] Driving from Indio to Palm Springs via CA-111 in Riverside County, California USA
State Route 111 (SR 111) is a state highway in the U.S. state of California. It is the main north-south route and retail corridor through the Coachella Valley, a part of the Colorado Desert in the southeastern corner of the state and a famous resort destination. It also runs through the Imperial Valley, and along the eastern shore of the Salton Sea. Its southern terminus is at the U.S.–Mexico border crossing in Calexico, and its northern terminus is at Interstate 10 at Whitewater.
SR 111 enters the southeast corner of the Coachella Valley as a two-lane highway. It used to run concurrently with SR 86 in Coachella, but SR 86 has since been moved to a newer expressway alignment, which was formerly named SR 86S. SR 111 continues northwest as a major arterial road, four lanes or wider, through Indio, La Quinta, Indian Wells, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, and Cathedral City. As it approaches this area, the northbound traffic is on Indian Canyon Road, and the southbound is on Palm Canyon Road. An alternate Route runs on Gene Autry Trail while mainline SR 111 continues west on Vista Chino Drive. Continuing west from Cathedral City, the highway enters Palm Springs, then swings north and then west to bypass downtown, while SR 111 Business passes through the congested downtown area. The highway widens from an arterial road to a divided expressway as it exits Palm Springs just northwest of San Rafael Drive. It ends at an interchange with I-10 near the foot of San Jacinto Peak, just east of the San Gorgonio Pass.

Why Every Driver Owes Thanks to June McCarroll - Indio, CA
Dr. June McCarroll moved to Indio, CA in 1904 and was an important figure in the region's history. She started the first library in the Coachella Valley, was a doctor for the Cahuilla Band of Native Americans, and was had an idea that changed roads around the world.
After being run off the road in 1917, she had the idea to put a line on the road in order to designate lanes. Amazingly something that seems so obvious took that long to come into being. In fact, it took her 7 years of pushing for it until the State of California adopted the practice in 1924 (and the rest of the world after).
In Indio, CA there is a section of Interstate 10 named for her, and a plaque on Indio Blvd. (where she painted her own two-mile stretch of lines to prove her point) honoring her.
In this video we talk about her and her idea that has no doubt saved countless lives over the years.

Indio, California - Driving Tour 4K
Indio is a city in Riverside County, California, United States, in the Coachella Valley of Southern California's Colorado Desert region. It lies 23 miles (37 km) east of Palm Springs, 75 miles (121 km) east of Riverside, 127 miles (204 km) east of Los Angeles, 148 miles (238 km) northeast of San Diego, and 250 miles (402 km) west of Phoenix. The word Indio is Spanish for Indian.
The population was 76,036 in the 2010 United States Census, up from 49,116 at the 2000 census, an increase of 55%. Indio was formerly referred to as the Hub of the Valley, a Chamber of Commerce slogan used in the 1970s. It was later nicknamed the City of Festivals, a reference to the numerous cultural events held in the city, most notably the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
