In this video i visit the Palace of Ooni of Ife. The Yoruba consider Ile Ife to be both the birthplace of their civilisation and the spot where the gods first came to earth. Ile Ife literally translates as place of dispersion. The Yoruba people believe that when the gods Oduduwa and Obatala created the universe, they also founded Ife. We all Meet Ooni Of Ife 1st Daughter recently and she was so pretty.

Are Yorubas from Egypt or Mecca? | Orisun Yoruba by Araba Fayemi Elebuibon | Joegraphy

Where did Yoruba people originate from? This is the first Google search related to the Yoruba people of Nigeria, which are located in West Africa. Araba Yemi Elebuibon explains the Yoruba conception of creation as it is portrayed in Odu Ifa. Some people mistakenly believed that the Yoruba people, who reside in the southwest of Nigeria, were race that has been existing since the time of their ancient father ODUDUWA, who migrated from the historic city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

Yoruba people are not Arabs. Yoruba is from the kingdom of Ife in southwest Nigeria, in the Yoruba language it means 'land is expanding'. OJUDE OBA FESTIVAL IN IJEBU ODE

Ojude Oba is one festival that many anticipate every year in Yoruba land, especially the Ijebu people. The festival, this year, was filled with pomp, glitz and glamour.
IJEBU Ode has remained remarkable over decades as an ancient city with rich cultural heritage, like Ile-Ife, which has provided traditional values that serve as symbol of unity for the Yoruba people of Ijebu kindred. One if its rich cultural symbol of unity is the Ojude Oba festival. The Ojude Oba Festival brings the sons and daughters of the ancient city from wherever they reside in the world back to their ancestral land annually to re-unite with their families and friends amidst divers fanfares.

The festival is usually held in two days after the Ileya festival. The Ojude Oba festival shifts from Ijebu Ode to Ijebu-Isiwo for another three days celebration after the Ileya. The main purpose of the festival is for the people of Ijebu to come together as one to honor their king and the festival is regarded as one of the biggest in West Africa.

The annual Ojude Oba festival started some 100 years ago when Imam Tunwatoba led his friends and family members to pay homage to his friend, Oba Fidipote, the then Awujale of Ijebu land during the Ileya festival for his assistance to the peace Islam enjoyed in his domain which has grown in leaps and bounds to assume the status of a flagship cultural festival.

The festival has now grown to a great extent of being a rallying point that brings together sons and daughters of Ijebu-Ode from across the globe and re-uniting them. It was suppose to be just a festival, celebration to appreciate the King but the Ojude Oba Festival has grown beyond that to become a symbolic arm of the people of Ijebu, a rallying point that strengthens social relations among the people. The Ojude Oba Festival is seemingly become a pilgrimage for the people of Ijebu.

The yearly cultural festival is so colourful, full of glamour and entertainment with display of masquerade dances, cultural attires and other cultural dances. It is usually a day that indigenes and visitors enjoy the best of cultural values and hospitality in Ijebu Ode.

The festival started about a century ago as a purely religious event when the Ijebus imbibed Islam as a way of life.

All Ijebu people are expected to come home for the festival, kill a ram, even if they are no longer Moslems, and attend the Ojude Oba to dance with their ages grade before the Awujale. Ijebu people are noted for their love of displaying what they have and this festival allows the various groups to show off their wealth and prosperity.

Watch the Ijebu People Buga at Ojude Oba Festival 2022

Ojude Oba festival is an ancient festival celebrated by the Yoruba people of Ijebu-Ode, a town in Ogun State, Southwestern Nigeria. This annual festival usually takes place the third day after Eid al-Kabir (Ileya), to pay homage and show respect to the Royal Majesty, the Awujale of Ijebuland. It is one of the most spiritual and glamorous festivals celebrated in Ijebuland and generally in Ogun State as a whole.

It is a festival whereby different cultural age groups are known as regberegbe, indigenes, their friends, and associates far and near parades at the front of the king's palace on the third day of Eid al Kabir festival popularly referred to as Ileya in Yoruba language. Oba Adetona was the one that brought back the age groups of the 18th century into the general acceptable phenomenon that is found among today's Ijebus, and this has become an integral part of the yearly Ojude Oba festival in Ijebu. The reason for the age groups was to bring development and progress to the community.

Ojude Oba which means king's fore-court in Yoruba language is usually celebrated with Pomp and pageantry by about 1,000,000 people from different parts of the world and Nigeria, especially those from Yoruba origin and most especially by people of Ijebu descent all over the world.

IBADAN PEOPLE ARE NOT Thieves, but...

I interviewed the present iba oluyole, who led me into the history of Ibadan, and here is how Iba Oluyole founded the city in 1829. The most common questions concerning Ibadan are addressed in this video.

Who created Ibadan?
When was Ibadan formed?

Local historians claim that Lagelu founded the city with the intention of using it as a military camp for warriors from Oyo, Ife, and Ijebu. The camp was situated in a woodland region with a number of hill ranges that ranged in elevation from 160 to 275 meters, providing chances for strategic defense.

Unveiling the Fascinating HISTORY of LEKKI (1910-2023)

Lekki is very important in the old and new Lagos. Lekki Peninsular is from around Mobil Lagos Victoria Island to the Niger Delta.

Lekki is an historical and ancient town. It is very close to Epe, Ikorodu, Victoria Island and Lagos Island. The town was formerly known as Ileke by the local people until the arrival of the Portuguese Trader called Mr Lecqi. People referred to the area where Lecqi was living by his name. So, the local people will say to each other that they are going to Lekki’s place and eventually, everywhere became known as Lekki. Mr Lecqi and his contemporaries were engaged in salt making and slave trading. The Ileke people, whose town became known as Lekki from the name of the Portuguse settler Mr Lecqi, were originally from Ile Ife and settled down at Ijebu Ode. From Ijebu Ode, they settled down at Ilara and from Ilara to Epe. From Epe, they settled at Ileke called Lekki today. Ebute Lekki on the Lagoon side is about one kilometer from the coast.

This Video give very much information about the history of Lekki from 1910-2023.

Driving Around Ibadan Nigeria | Oyo State Nigeria

Ibadan, capital city of Oyo state, Nigeria, located on seven hills (average elevation 700 feet [200 metres]) about 100 miles (160 km) from the Atlantic coast. It is one of the most populous cities in the country.
Ibadan’s beginnings are shrouded in mystery; they were recorded only in oral tradition. It is said that the earliest group of settlers at Ibadan were fugitives from justice who were expelled from nearby villages. This small group later swelled with the arrival of immigrants from all over Yorubaland (now western Nigeria).

Recorded history begins in 1829, after the region was convulsed by extended intertribal wars. In that year the victorious armies of the Ife, Ijebu, and Oyo kingdoms camped at Ibadan and formed the nucleus of the modern city. The British colonial government assumed control of the city in 1893. After the railway arrived from Lagos (1901), the line was extended northward to Kano (1912), thus ensuring the city’s continuing economic importance.

The economic activities of Ibadan include agriculture, commerce, handicrafts, manufacturing, and service industries. Although the city’s farming population has declined, it is still large for an urban area. Many cultivators are part-time farmers who augment their earnings with other work.

Ibadan is an important commercial centre. Virtually every street and corner in the traditional core and the inner suburbs of the city is a market square or stall. Within the city there are many markets. The largest daily market stretches in a belt from the railway station in the west to the centre of the city and is Ibadan’s commercial core.
Some local crafts still flourish. These include weaving, spinning and dyeing, pottery making, and blacksmithing. The adire (“tie-dye”) cloth dyed locally in large pots of indigo is popular. The small businesses in the city engage in corn milling, leather working, wood and steel furniture making, printing, photography, hotel management, and motor and other repairing. There are, however, few modern manufacturing industries.

Ibadan is well served by roads. The city has a fleet of privately owned taxicabs and minibuses, and regular bus services are operated within the city and its suburbs.

The University of Ibadan (1948) and a technical institute are located in the city, and there are many specialized institutions. The university library maintains the largest collection of books in the country. There is also a branch of the National Archives on the university campus.

Of the city’s parks, the most important is Agodi Park and Gardens. There are also zoological and botanical gardens, two main stadiums, and a large number of athletic facilities. Pop. (2007 est.) 2,628,000; (2016 est.) urban agglom., 3,160,000.
Oyo, state, western Nigeria. Oyo was reduced in size when Osun state was created out of its eastern portion in 1991. Oyo is bounded by the states of Kwara on the north, Osun on the east, and Ogun on the south and by the Republic of Benin on the west. Oyo state is traversed by the Yoruba Hills in the north. The state has some tropical rain forest in the south around Ibadan, the state capital, but is covered mostly by a “derived” savanna that is largely the result of clearing and burning the former forest cover to provide land for cultivation. The Ogun is the most important river. Oyo state is inhabited mainly by the Yoruba people.
The economy of Oyo is based chiefly on agriculture and handicrafts. Agricultural products include yams, corn (maize), cassava (manioc), beans, millet, plantains, tobacco, cacao, palm oil and palm kernels, cotton, kola nuts, indigo, and fruits. The state is also noted for its cottage industries, consisting of cotton spinning, weaving, dyeing, leatherworking (sheep and goat skins), wood carving, and mat making. Industries in Ibadan, the second largest city in Nigeria, include a cannery, a brewery, a publishing industry, a tobacco-processing factory, wood- and steel-furniture factory, and a motor-vehicle assembly plant. Ibadan is the site of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria, and the Federal Agricultural Research Institute. Among the state’s tourist attractions are the Ibadan University Zoo, the Agodi Zoological Garden, and the residential palaces of Yoruba rulers in Oyo and Ogbomosho. There is a university at Ibadan and a number of teacher-training colleges. The Lagos-Ibadan highway links the northern and southern parts of the state. Pop. (2006) 5,591,589.
