Port Harcourt To Abuja by Road Via Makurdi

Hello lovelies, today I will be sharing my journey from port Harcourt to Abuja by Road via Makurdi. It was a two days journey and interesting one at that.

NIGERIA 2017

Thanks for watching.

Please look below for more details.

THE OBAH FESTIVAL OF SOMORIKA 2013 EDITION.

THE OBAH CELEBRATION:
(This festival goes back generations.)
The word, 'OBAH' is the name of a person (not the King or Chief). This person was the leader of his age grade. His age grade had just graduated from the special age-grade level called, Ikposha to Ekua-leburu. Ikposha was the age-group that served the Otaru (the Chief Priest of Somorika). They farmed for him. The 'Otaru' relied on this age-grade for all his agricultural requirements. They provided his accommodation and when required, carried out roofing or re-roofing the Otaru's houses or huts. They provided defence for him. The Ikposha age grade ministered to all Otaru's and his household's needs.
Indeed, because they served the sacred person of Otaru, the group was regarded too holy to go on war campaign. So, they were not deployed to serve as soldiers. Dreaded by all Ikposha age grade members was dying while still in that age grade and being buried in the town public dust-bin called 'Oku,' because such were considered to have suffered premature death. That was why graduating from Ikposha to Ekualeburu was so significant. The Ikposha graduands celebrate the Obah festivals as members of the next age grade of Ekualeburu.
This spirit of high responsibility and dependability was demonstrated by one 'Obah' who laid down his life to save his entire age-grade, Ekualeburu, from perishing. The age grade, were involved in trying to retrieve war implements hidden in a rock lake but faced imminent danger of extinction because the 'lake-spirit' presented them with great obstacle. 'Obah' was said to have voluntarily surrendered his life to appease the 'gods' of the rock-lake and release the rest of the age-grade members. In memento of his sacrifice 'Obah' is remembered every seven to eleven years (depending on when the age-group Ikposha is promoted to the next grade Ekualeburu) when the 'Obah' festival is celebrated. Those who move from Ikposha to Eku-aleburu celebrate the 'Obah' festival. The ceremony begins with members climbing to the old 'Wayan' city site (the highest peak of the renown Kukuruku Hills), each person identifying his household zone where the first step in the celebrations is taken.
An elderly man of each house-hold decorates the celebrant of that family with a special white garment prepared for the occasion. Then, the celebrants all gather at the Obah's old site, Uzoba household of Oyenokare. Here, they call on Obah to return. They begin to commemorate the festival by going to the site and shout 'Obah' thrice, asking him to return, viz.
Obah o o o (First bang on the drum)
Obah o o o (Second bang on the drum)
Obah o o o (Third bang on the drum)
Drumming, singing and dancing commence with.
Obah o o o,
Chorus: Obah o o o

Obah gene de (Obah please return)
Chorus: Obah o o o

Obah lobe-shame (Oba of my father)
Chorus: Obah o o o

Obah lobo-nume (Obah of my mother)
Chorus: Obah o o o

(It is always heavily emotion-packed and highly momentous event.)
-(Culled from the book, The History of Somorika)

N.B.: It is a known fact that some neighbouring towns have copied this epic festival and named it similar to Obah Festival without knowing the actual reasons why the Somorikans (the Edo-ID Aboriginals) hold this great festival very important in our unique celebrations.
