Småland ist auch die Heimat jenes allseits bekannten, schwedischen Möbelhauses, das dort ein Museum hat. Tamina Kallert macht auf ihrer Reise bei einer Elchsafari mit, campt direkt am Wasser im Åsnen Nationalpark und lernt die traditionellen Gebräuche des Mittsommernachtfestes kennen.
In Astrid Lindgrens Welt in Vimmerby kann man in die Geschichten der berühmten Autorin eintauchen. In einem Teil des Parks sind so große Möbel aufgestellt, dass Erwachsene sich wieder wie Kinder fühlen. Auf sieben verschiedenen Bühnen gibt es dort kleine Theateraufführungen zu sehen. In Vimmerby steht auch noch das Elternhaus der Autorin, das heute ein Museum ist. Dort erfährt Tamina Kallert einiges über die Liebesgeschichte der Eltern Astrid Lindgrens. Die nächste Station der Reise ist Gibberyd, die Original-Drehkulisse von Michel aus Lönneberga. Dort befinden sich noch der alte Hof und der Schuppen, in dem Michel einst seine Streiche abgebüßt hat.
Wenn Midsommar gefeiert wird, wird die Nacht zum Tag. Denn am längsten Tag des Jahres ist es nur wenige Stunden lang dunkel. Tamina Kallert hat sich extra für das Fest ein buntes Kleid gekauft. Auf einem Gutshof in Skruv feiert sie gemeinsam mit den Dorfbewohnern. Am frühen Morgen geht es schon los: Es werden Zweige und Blumen für die Kränze und die Mittsommerstange gesammelt. Zu essen gibt es traditionell Erdbeerkuchen. Den ganzen Tag lang wird getanzt, gesungen und herumgealbert.
In Eriksgården lernt Tamina Kallert die harte bäuerliche Arbeit um 1900 kennen. In Gränna machte Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts eine Witwe ihr eigenes Geschäft auf, in dem sie schwedische Zuckerstangen erfand, die dort heute noch hergestellt werden. Nicht weit entfernt hatten in Jönköping zwei Brüder eine zündende Idee, mit der sie das Streichholz revolutioniert haben. In dem ehemaligen Fabrikgebäude kann man heute das wohl weltweit einzige Streichholzmuseum dieser Art besichtigen.

Follow me as I explore the very best things to see in the south of Sweden, on a trip that takes me to the southernmost point of the country.
This trip begins in the town of Linköping in the district of Östergötland, and continues past magnificent forests, vast seas, historical monuments, and quaint old towns.
The places I visited along the way include:
- Linköping in Östergötland, with its magnificent cathedral
- Gränna in Småland, located next to the lake Vättern. Famous for hand made candies
- Brahehus in Småland, a 17th century ruin with a ridiculously nice view
- Värnamo in Småland, a town close to a wild west theme park and a National Park
- Ljungby in Småland. I have nothing to say about Ljungby...
- Helsingborg in Skåne, with its Medieval tower Kärnan and gorgeous view
- Malmö in Skåne, Sweden's third biggest city. And famous for gang violence...
- Smygehuk in Skåne, the southernmost point in Sweden
- Ales stenar in Skåne, Sweden's biggest stone ship formation from before the Viking age
- Kristianstad in Skåne, a quaint little town named after a tyrannical Danish king
- Älmhult in Småland, home of the first IKEA store in the world
- Växjö in Småland, where Carl von Linné went to the same high school as I did
- Hultsfred in Småland, previously home to Sweden's biggest open air music festival
- Vimmerby in Småland, where you can meet Pippi Longstocking and other Astrid Lindgren characters
- Söderköping, famous for its lovely canals and excellent ice cream

In Linköping, there is Sweden's oldest monastery Vreta Kloster and also Sweden's second-largest church, Linköpings domkyrka. Both of these Christian building was built around the 10th century.
In Linköping, you can watch beautiful sunsets in Ekängen or you watch cool combat aircrafts in flygvapensmuseumet. You could also see where the last Swedish civil war battle (Slaget vid Stångebro) was fought. It was a battle between the army of Sigismund, the king over Sweden and Polen-Lithuania, and the army of his uncle, Karl IX. Göta kanal travels through Linköping, which is a canal that links the the Swedish east coast with the Swedish west coast through a waterway. In Bergs Slussar there are seven locks.

A short stroll through Västervik, Sweden
Västervik is a small town by the lakefront, a designated vacation spot for Swedes in the summer, but a hidden gem to the rest. I went in September when the warm summer air met the moody storms of autumn. Swans and ducks flock to the wide open harbor hugging the lake, while near the town centre, you can walk narrow roads lined with pastel houses. And, as always in Sweden, there are ample forests to explore when you tire of civilization.
This felt like a cozy, relaxing ASMR video. There are sounds of the wind, the lake, rain--and walking, of course! I would like to get in the habit of uploading twice a week with these slow little travel videos on the weekend.
