This 5.5-mile out and back trail offers some great views of Mt Holyoke, Springfield, Umass Amherst, and the Connecticut River. This video is part of my series where I attempt to find the best day hikes in Massachusetts. Did I find the best day hike near Springfield? One of the top day hikes in Massachusetts at least! Today I decided to visit one of my favorite places in Western Massachusetts. The Summit House at Skinner State Park at the western end of the Holyoke Range. The view from the summit house over the Connecticut River Valley is simply breathtaking. You can enjoy spectacular views of the New England landscape. From the farm fields to the mountains of four states, the sights are amazing for a mountain of a mere 942 feet.

Hiking the Seven Sisters in Massachusetts
The Seven Sisters is the nickname for a hike in central Massachusetts which takes you over seven peaks which include the Mount Holyoke Summit House - America's first mountain top hotel built in 1821 and still standing. This might be my favorite hike in Massachusetts and I stayed up there for sunset on a winter day.
