Hinche Haiti Eyeglass Trip 2013
In 2013, I traveled to Hinche, Haiti with Dominique & Daniella Gutierrez, Sunshine Nathalie and my brothers, Mike, Mark & David Coughlin to give out eyeglasses. We stayed at Sacre Coeur Church in Hinche and also spent time in Bassin Zim waterfall and the surrounding area. I took very few worthwhile photos, so I took everyone else's photos to create this slide show. Plus two very brief video clips I shot with a flip video.
The songs are both by Nemours Jean Baptiste, the creator of compas music (Compas Direct ou Kompa), the national musical genre of Haiti. The first song is Gracieuse Creatures and the second is Nounoune.

This is my 4th visit in this marvelous city in Haiti and it's being cleaner and cleaner. The trees are still there and there are even more trees every time I visit. Ennery is a city that is rich in nature and History. Toussaint Louverture, one of the main figure of Hait's independence, was born there.
There is so much to discover in the cleanest and one of the most eco city in Haiti. I cannot wait to hear from your visit too. There you will be able to tell your own story of a different Haiti.

L'histoire de la cité remonte à longtemps, du temps où elle faisait parti d'un grand village amérindien appelé Guarico, qui était la capitale du caciquat du Marien. La ville fut cependant officiellement créée en 1670 par le français Bertrand d'Ogeron et a été dénommée Cap Français pendant toute la période de la colonisation française. En Janvier 1804, elle fut baptisée Cap-Haïtien par Dessalines. Sous le règne du Roi, Henri 1er, elle s’appelait Cap Henri (1806-1820) et est redevenue Cap-Haïtien à la mort du Roi en 1820.
Célèbre aussi pour son patrimoine architectural et les hauts faits d'armes dont elle fut le théâtre, Cap-Haïtien reste et demeure la Capitale historique et touristique d'Haïti.

The beauty of Haiti not shown on television. When it comes to Haiti, the international media always go to the worst area of Haiti giving the country a bad image and scaring potential tourists. Although it is true that Haiti is very poor but there are beautiful places to go, things to do or to see. The country is beautiful and has a lot of potential. I predict Haiti will be once again the pearl of the caribbean in years to come. The problem with Haiti is that it lacks a caring government and investments. Haiti has been brain drained. Most rich and professional Haitians have left Haiti. Hence the Haitian diaspora lacks caring people who are willing to come back and help the country. There are 6 smaller islands belonging to Haiti. All of them with impressive beauty and pristine beaches.
