Hellevoetsluis (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌɦɛləvutˈslœy̯s] population: 38,778 in 2017) is a small city and municipality on Voorne-Putten Island in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality covers an area of 46.27 km2 (17.86 sq mi) of which 14.71 km2 (5.68 sq mi) is water and it includes the population centres Nieuw-Helvoet, Nieuwenhoorn and Oude en Nieuwe Struiten, all former municipalities.
Hellevoetsluis is located on the Haringvliet with the sea, beach and dunes close by, on the extreme southern edge of the Rijnmond and Europoort areas, close to the broad Zeeland landscape. The name translates as lock at the foot of the Helle. The Helle was a small local river which disappeared over time.

An imposing fort, the national fire museum, beaches, water sports activities and many bars and restaurant around the cozy harbor. That is Hellevoetsluis.
It is an old place with a rich history but is also now a place where there is a lot to do.

???? SAIL 2020 | HELLEVOETSLUIS TO SCHEVENINGEN | TRAVEL
???? This leg of our North Sea journey began with little to almost no wind. Enough sail boats who were with us in the Stellendam water locks have their engine running. Later, happily, wind picked up, on time for the party in Scheveningen. We arrived in the Scheveningen marina the afternoon of July 22, 2020- Wednesday. Thursday was spent in the beach, while waiting for oma & opa to pick up the kids- Lana got seasick. Friday we left on the way to IJmuiden, and moored in Nauerna.
Holland's most famous seaside resort Scheveningen has an abundance of attractions and beach pavilions. Take a stroll along the boulevard, discover the fascinating marine world at SEA LIFE, enjoy a sunset dining or dance the night away in The Hague's city centre.
Scheveningen is best known for its wide sandy beach and the refreshing sea air. Beach life and city life go together in The Hague!

What to do, where to eat and where to stay in Leiden, the Netherlands - close to Amsterdam.
It is a chilled university town with amazing architecture and canals.
Plenty to see, to eat. We only stayed for 24 hours.
It is only 30 min drive to Amsterdam, so it can be a cheaper option to stay there and drive to Amsterdam.
We stayed at an Airbnb in Voorshoten, called Slapen onder de sterren in het paradijs. If you want limited comfort, no electricity and cheap, this is the place to go.
