Heidelberg West (population 5,251 during 2021 census) is a Melbourne suburb located 10-12 km north-east of the CBD. Heidelberg West was the site of the 1956 Olympic Games Village for athletes. Following the completion of the games, the area was transformed into a Housing Commision of Victoria estate, and in subsequent years, residences are now being sold into private ownership. In this video, you will also see vistas of Northland Shopping Centre, the Melbourne skyline plus the redevelopment of the Olympic Village sporting grounds into a full-on precinct.

The West Heidelberg Olympic Village
Melbourne is home to a very special suburb - one that was purpose-built for the 1956 Olympic Games. West Heidelberg almost never existed, but ended up playing an integral role before, during and after the so-called 'Friendly Games'.

A special autumn day in Heidelberg, Germany
On this cold grey foggy day, while the city is busily preparing for Christmas by erecting trees in many open squares and displaying beautiful decorations throughout narrow lanes, streets and shops, we came to Heidelberg for Marc receiving his doctoral certificate and to photograph the city with its splendid autumn colours from Castle Heidelberg. There is a certain magic with the surrounding hills shrouded in low clouds. The river Neckar with its bridges always attracts special attention.

I recommend people who live in Melbourne to come at least once in their lifetime, so they can just tell their friends they have been there.
If you want a big extreme super fun theme park, this is not the place for you. Head to Singapore, Gold Coast, Dubai....for better bigger theme parks.
