Journey Through Palestine - Travel Documentary

Palestine means a lot of different things to many people, and may not be the most obvious travel destination. It is often associated with conflict and political unrest, overlooking the fact that it’s also a beautiful and fascinating region, with a vibrant culture, incredible historic landmarks, spectacular natural scenery, inspiring religious sites, tasty food, and friendly, welcoming people.

On this journey, I’m traveling through the Holy Land, a region important to the three main monotheistic religions, and known today as Israel and Palestine.

In this first episode, I’m exploring the West Bank, the largest and most accessible part of Palestine. From stunning natural scenery to intriguing historic sites. From the busy streets of Ramallah to the narrow alleyways of Nablus’ old city. From religious landmarks in Hebron and Bethlehem to the ancient ruins of Jericho. Along the way, I meet some of the people that call this land home, and sample the local cuisine.

I’ll do so from a traveler’s perspective, focusing on the positive stories and things to do. But here and there I also mention the conflict between Israel and Palestine, since it has impacted the lives of many people in the region. For those interested in the politics and modern history of the region, however, I recommend to read, watch, and listen to as many different sources as you can.

This is my first long trip after the pandemic started, and I’m grateful for the chance to travel again. It’s also my second visit to the region. While much of the footage is from the end of 2021 (including the ‘vlog style’ parts), I’ll also use some background material from 5 years earlier.

Here’s a brief overview of the content in this video:

We start this journey in Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus Christ, with its impressive Church of the Nativity at its core. After visiting the church, I explore the streets around it, meeting people and eating food in the bustling bazaar. There are many other places worth your time in and around Bethlehem, including the Milk Grotto, an olive oil factory (press), Shepherd’s Fields, and the Mar Saba monastery, surrounded by arid mountains.

Hebron is the next stop, a city in the South of Palestine, and (among other things) famous for its glassblowing factories, and also the Tomb of the Patriarch, or Ibrahimi Mosque. The streets around this place are divided between the local Palestinian community and Israeli settlers. As a tourist, you can visit both areas. At the end of the day, my guide Salwa takes me to a traditional Palestinian restaurant, where we eat some delicious food.

We continue this trip in Jericho, regarded as the oldest city in the world. Located next to the Dead Sea, it’s also one of the lowest cities on our planet, and can get very hot in Summer. Other sights to visit around Jericho include the Dead Sea, Nabi Musa, Qasr-al-Yahud, and St George’s Monastery, built into a cliff in Wadi Qelt.

Getting lost in the narrow alleys of Nablus’ old city was among my favorite things to do. There’s a surprise waiting for you around every corner, and perhaps the best one was the Al Aqsa kunafeh store, which is said to make the best version of this Palestinian dessert, which is popular around the Middle East.

We finish this journey in Ramallah, a young and dynamic city, attracting people from around the region to find work and get educated. It’s a commercial hub with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, and provides a different perspective on this part of Palestine.

Hebron: The Reality of Israeli Settlement in Palestine // Behind The Wall

It’s widely known that there are Jewish settlements in Palestinian territory, but very few people know what the lives of people are actually like in these isolated districts.
I traveled to Hebron, a Palestinian city that has Israeli settlements right in the middle of the city itself, and managed to enter a Jewish neighborhood surrounded by barbed wire fences and checkpoints.
In this video, I’m going to share what I saw and experienced in this controversial section of Hebron.
This video is the second video of my Hebron trip, so if you haven’t seen the previous one, please check it out as well↓

Hebron: A City Divided Between Palestinians and Israelis // Behind The Wall

The Israeli–Palestinian conflict is one of the world's most enduring disputes, which involves disagreements about numerous Israeli settlements in the West Bank of Palestine.
Among them all, the city of Hebron has one peculiarity:
Hebron is the only city in Palestine where Jewish settlements are located right in the middle of the city itself.
During my Palestine trip, I saw the critical situation of the city with my own eyes, where a bunch of walls, barbed wire fences and checkpoints are disconnecting peoples’ lives in the city center.
In this video, I’m going to share what I experienced in the divided city of Hebron.

We Went To Israel AND Palestine To See Both Sides

In today's episode, we make our way from Malta to Jerusalem to join a dual perspective tour of the ancient city of Hebron.

This was a fascinating experience and we learned an incredible amount. We simply did this to learn and be more well-informed world citizens.

Please watch the whole video to get the full perspective from both sides.

Hateful comments toward either side will be removed.

Life in Palestinian WEST BANK ???????? | Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Jericho & Dead Sea

This West Bank vlog is about ordinary Palestinians and their lives. What is living in Bethlehem, surrounded by an eight metre wall, like? My interview with Claire Anastas elucidates the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. This short video doesn't claim to have answers to the complex issues in the region, it just shares one woman's experience.

If you'd like to learn more about the conflict between Israel and Palestine, I recommend this list:

My personal favourite is a novel called Mornings in Jenin by Susan Abulhawa. She skilfully portrays Israelis and Palestinians across generations - it's one of the best fiction books about the conflict I've read.

When you visit both Israeli and Palestinian territories, you will notice many differences such as culture, religion, food, language, and cityscapes.
But one thing all tourists immediately notice is the huge difference in prices.
In this video, I’m going to compare how much I spent on a variety of items during my travels in Israel and Palestine.

Inside Palestine’s Walled City: Bethlehem // Behind The Wall

For the past 20 years or so, the Israeli government has been constructing a controversial separation wall, annexing Palestinian land inside the occupied West Bank.
Years after it was deemed illegal by a UN court, the wall still continues to cut through and divide Palestinian towns and villages, destroying the livelihoods of the people living there.
I was always curious about what’s really going on inside the separation wall, so I decided to enter Palestinian territory through an Israeli checkpoint in Jerusalem. .
In this second video of the “Behind The Wall” series, I will explore Bethlehem: a Pelastinian city surrounded by the separation wall.

Travel Palestine - Hebron

Hebron 'Al Khalil' in arabic, is one of the oldest continuously inhabited towns in the world. Holy to Muslims, Christians, and Jews alike as the burial place of Abraham, Al -- Khalil. The Abraham Mosque, which houses the tombs of the Patriarchs, dominates the city center's landscape. Hebron is known for its lush grape vineyards, pottery, glassware, leatherworks, and other inventive arts. Lively, colorful, and creative are the most common words used by tourists to describe this city.

Hebron H1 + H2 @ Hebron, Palestine + Israel فلسطين إِسْرَائِيل‎ חֶבְרוֹן פלשתינה יִשְׂרָאֵל‬ ????????????????

One of the rare cases were taking an organized tour is highly recommended!!!

Although it is possible to visit Hebron H1 + H2 by yourself I would recommend taking a tour because you will get lots of information and stories by Israeli and Palestinian locals that you would otherwise not find online.

THE TWO SIDES TO HEBRON

There’s no exaggeration to say that if you want go to understand the Israel-Palestine conflict, go to Hebron.

Anyway I teamed up with Abraham’s Tours and went on the Hebron Dual Narrative Tour and it was absolutely well worth the day out to understand and be educated in the Israeli Palestinian conflict by those who’ve been affected by it.

Eliyahu and Muhammad were amazing tour guides, I honestly learnt a lot, it posed more questions for me, and it also made me realise then how that this is not a one sided issue, but problems on either sides.

The other thing is that spiritually, it really woke me up to learn more as Hebron for Jewish people is considered to be the second holiest place in the world, after the Temple Mount.

I don’t think their is an easy answer for the conflict, I do think that any form of peace could be unattainable, but as Eliyahu said “to be confused is knowing that you’re now understanding the conflict”.

#hebron #westbank #travel

------------------------------------------

HEBRON DUAL NARRATIVE TOUR is hosted by Abraham’s Tours, it’s approximately a 12 hour day and costs from 290 ILS/US$75 this includes a guided tour tour to both areas, however you will need to purchase transportation (15.6 ILS/US$4.00) and lunch (30 ILS/US$8.00) separately.
