Long Island Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia

Long Island – Less than an hour’s drive from NYC, find the first of the island’s much-loved beaches. From there, follow us through the coolest parts of the area.

When ready, browse vacation packages to Long Island:

A #LongIsland #vacation sends you eastward from the New York boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens to the bluffs of Montauk Point. A short train ride from Manhattan is Long Beach, which for many is where Long Island begins. Visit Fire Island Lighthouse, which for generations of immigrants was their first glimpse of America. It was on Long Island’s northern shores where the mansions were built that would inspire F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic, The Great Gatsby.

#Visit the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Hempstead and continue your flight into the past at the American Airpower Museum. #Explore the pioneer settlement of Southampton Village and nearby Sag Harbor, a historic whaling port immortalized in Moby Dick. America’s first president, George Washington, commissioned Montauk Lighthouse on Long Island’s easternmost point. Climb to the top to take in the sweeping views of this place that has played center stage in some of America’s greatest stories.

For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

Hamptons Summer Vlog: Exploring Southampton & East Hampton

Comprised of hamlets and villages in Southhampton and East Hampton, the Hamptons serves as an escape for affluent New York City residents to wine, dine, and sunbathe about 100 miles away. I took a day with my friend to explore parts of Southampton via foot and skateboard (Main Street, Cooper's Beach, etc.), and East Hampton (LongHouse Reserve, Babette's, Wölffer Estate Vineyard) to see what the Hamptons is really like - and if we truly fit in to such a picture perfect place.

⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ Walking The Hamptons, NY : Downtown Southampton

I walk in the downtown area of Southampton Village, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.

From Wikipedia:
Southampton is a village in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The village is named after the Earl of Southampton. The Village of Southampton is in the southeast part of the county in the Town of Southampton. The population was 3,109 at the 2010 census.

Southampton is the oldest and largest of communities in the summer colony known as The Hamptons. It is also arguably the commercial center of the southern fork of Long Island, serves as the home base for several region-wide businesses and has the area's only hospital. Southampton Village is generally considered one of the area's two most prestigious communities.

Many wealthy and influential people have homes in the estate section of the village, the area immediately north of the Atlantic Ocean front. Southampton has historically been home to prominent residents including members of the Ford, Du Pont, Eisenhower, Vanderbilt and Morgan families. Today, the village is itself home to approximately half of the billionaires who have residences in the eight hamlets and villages that constitute the Hamptons.

Southampton Village has a relatively large year round population, at approximately 3,100 residents. It has 2 - 3x the population of any of the other villages or hamlets in the Hamptons. As a result, it is the most densely populated and most built up of the communities in the Hamptons. It is also the most diverse of the villages and hamlets that constitute the Hamptons. Southampton Village has the largest communities of African Americans, Hispanics and Asians (in percentage terms and in absolute numbers) in the Hamptons.

The incorporated Village of Southampton is headed by Mayor Jesse Warren. At the time of his election, the 37 year old became the village's youngest mayor. This area is policed by the Southampton Village Police Department.

Drone Flight: Ponquogue Beach (Hampton Bays, NY)

Dune Road in the western end of the Hamptons is my favorite drive anywhere I've ever been. I am originally from this neck of the woods and this is always a fun place to visit.
