Haflong is a beautiful hill station located in the state of Assam. During my visit, I had the opportunity to explore the Jatinga Bird Mystery Point, which is a popular tourist attraction in the area. Which was the highlight of the tour. I also had the pleasure of staying with a local family who welcomed me with open arms and provided me with valuable guidance throughout my tour.
We tried a unique fruit called Selnigh, which is indigenous to Northeastern areas. In addition to this, I also got to visit several villages of different tribes and had an incredible time exploring their culture and way of life. We ended our day by visiting Ethnic Village, where there are several traibal collatages and statues. Overall, my trip to Haflong was an unforgettable experience that allowed me to immerse myself in the natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of Assam.

Exploring Haflong | Only hill station of Assam | Tribe food, Jatinga, Assam
Haflong is a town and also a beautiful hill station in the state of Assam, we spent one full day in Haflong exploring places to see and things to do in Haflong Assam.
Following are the details of the activities done by us as part of this journey.
New Haflong station - Started our day from new haflong station. Enjoyed the Vistadome coach travel from Guwhati to Haflong. It runs on Saturday and wednesday.
Distance from Guwahati to Haflong is 310 km
Black Rabbit restaurant -Decent restaurant to have lunch at this place.
Circuit House - The scenic view from here is amazing.
Haflong Lake - It is 1km away from circuit house. The hanging bridge built to cross the lake was interesting. This place also has facility for boating.
Muolpong View Point - This is the place where you can have good view of Beautiful Haflong town. It is also a good spot for watching the sunrise and sunset of haflong town. It is almost 2.5 km away from Haflong lake.
Jatinga view point - Jatinga is the only hill station in Assam which is known for the mysterious suicide of birds during certain weeks of the year sometime august to october.
Kuki Tribe Village - We enjoyed the beautiful waterfall here and also had local traditional food in our lunch too. This village is almost 3 km away from the Jatinga view point.
Ethnic Village - Here one will get to see the blend of different cultures and traditions of Assam.
We did this tour during 2nd week of December 2021.

During certain months of the year, birds fly into the village and commit suicide by crashing into buildings or trees. We'll uncover the mystery of Jatinga today as well. We'll also visit Bendao Baglai waterfalls and finally trek on top of Seilkal Peak. This trek offers stunning views of the surrounding hills and valleys and is a must-try for adventure enthusiasts.

Haflong - calm and quiet hill station at an altitude of 3300ft, surrounded by greenery, is a gem of North East India. The hill town is the district town of the tribal majority hill district of Dima Hasao in Assam. The lofty hills, stunning views of valleys, and the calmness of the place make Haflong one of the best offbeat spot in North East.
The adjacent Jatinga Valley is very picturesque and known for the mystery of suicide of birds. Although the mystery has come to near conclusion now with the help of Bird experts, and the incident like bird's suicide has come to almost zero with increased awareness of the locals.
The most attractive part of the Haflong tour is the magnificent railway journey on the Lumding-Badarpur mountain railway section, crossing a number of tunnels, streams and bridges, with stunning views of forested hills and valleys on both sides. This is one of the most beautiful broad guage Rail journey of Indian Railways. New Haflong station, midway between Lumding and Badarpur, is one of the most beautiful railway stations in India.

Haflong Lake is one of the most charming and the only tourist hill destination in this northeastern Indian State of Assam. An extremely scenic spot, Haflong Lake offers various leisure water sporting activities and boating facilities. It is under protection of Dima Hasao Tourist/forest Department and Dima Hasao Autonomous Council. It is also an angling spot for fishing lovers.
Haflong is a town and headquarters of Dima Hasao district in India in the state of Assam. It is the only hill station in Assam. Haflong got its name from Dimasa word better known Ha-floong or Hangkhlong which means Ant Hill. According to the Zeme Nagas( one of the earliest group to settle at Haflong areas) traditions the term 'Haflong' is derived from a person name Hamlong;the erstwhile landlord of Haflong areas.The term Haflong is even prominent in the clans of the Dimasas like Haflongbar. According to some old people Haflong was given a name by the British, Half-Long to indicate half way from kamrup. Haflong hillstation is known for its beautiful landscapes, valleys, hills and mountains.

St. Agnes Convent School Haflong which was established in 1918 in the shape of residential school to cater the needs of the European and Anglo-Indian students of Tea garden managers and Railway officers of the time but seeing the needs of the locality it was opened for the local children in 1970 the school was offering studies up to High school level but in 2013 the school opened its Higher secondary section to facilitate more students of the district.

Haflong the headquarters of Dima hasao district, and is Assam's only hill station. In the local Dimasa language, Hacking means 'ant hill' and obvious reference to numerous termite mounds around the town. Located 84 km north of Shilchar, Haflong is almost the midpoint of an enchanting mountain railway system from Lumding in Nagaon district. The train track converted to broad gauge, passes through many tunnels before reaching Badarpur in Barak valley.
The town is built around the picturesque Haflong lake in whose neighborhood is the Circuit house that offers a panoramic view of the hilly terrain. The Barail hill surrounds the whole Haflong city like a garland from north to east giving a precious geographical diversity to the district. The 'Great Dyke' some times Haflong is called as the 'Land of Blue hills'.
