For lovers of the arts, the Angela Peralta Performing Art Theater is a must-see destination. This beautifully restored 19th-century theater is a testament to the city's rich cultural heritage, and hosts a wide range of music, dance, theater, and opera performances throughout the year. Our day guide, John, immediately brought the knowledge and tasty treats as we explored Guanajuato. Being in the same state as the more well known San Miguel de Allende, visitors to Guanajuato benefit from smaller tourist crowds, lower prices, and a much larger city to explore! A UNESCO World Heritage city dating back to 1559, Guanajuato is filled with colonial buildings built alongside and on TOP of an ancient river. The bridges to cross the river eventually became a second floor to the city with buildings on tip, and later full-fledged tunnels that criss-cross and enable people and cars to move around town. We traveled UP and DOWN all over Guanajuato as we sampled local dishes like Acelga Tamales (made with swiss chard!) to keep our energy.

After a pit stop back at the RV to change (we found camping INSIDE Guanajuato to make walking into the city center much easier!), it was time to switch gears and guides. Tim Leffel, founder of GTO Walking Tours, met up with us in front of the famous Teatro Juarez for an evening of tacos, tequila, and fun. We roamed local haunts, tried Pulque, one of the oldest beverages anywhere, and had our fair share of tacos, tequila and sweets!

Built into steep hills, large sections of Guanajuato are only accessible by foot. Remember to take breaks, enjoy a snack or three, and consider a guide to help you navigate!

Our thanks again to John and Tim from gtowalkingtours.com for providing their time, knowledge and sharing a lot of laughs. If that wasn't enough, be sure to stick around for some amazing fire dancing by John at the end of our video!

Authentic Guanajuato Mexico Street Food Tour | Best Hole in the Wall Spots

In this Authentic Guanajuato Street Food Tour we search for the most traditional, hidden gem, hole in the wall restaurants and food stands. Guanajuato is known for a few traditional dishes: Tacos Al Vapor, Guacamaya, Tacos de Cabeza, and Enchiladas Mineras. We end the night with shots of Mezcal. The first food cart we go to is Tacos Al Vapor El Jaguar for tacos al vapor. Next up is Guacamaya at a food cart (with no name) in front of the Mercado Hidalgo. Third may be our favorite tacos ever at Paisa 2 and lastly enchiladas mineras at Enchiladas De Lupe.

We're Faris and Lisa

A travel couple from Metro Detroit, MI. We met in business school and started traveling immediately post graduation in 2016 while maintaining automotive marketing positions. We’ve traveled to over 35 different countries together and still can’t get enough!

In April 2021, we made the leap and quit our 9-5 jobs to follow our dreams of full time travel. We sold our house, donated all of our belongings and moved into Tina. Now we document all of our travels via travel vlog style! Subscribe to our YouTube channel and Newsletter to follow along on our adventure as we explore North America.
