Granada is all about music and poetry, authentic architectural art and millennial culture. The province hugs the sky from the steep peaks of the Sierra Nevada, its monumental cities extend over the Altiplano and its white villages are scattered between valleys and slopes, which end in the cliffs and beaches of the Costa Tropical. The province of Granada, a privileged tourist destination, allows its visitors to ski in the Sierra Nevada, venture into the villages deep in the Alpujarras, travel the last frontier of Al-Andalus in the Poniente Granadino or explore the caves testifying to troglodyte life.
History :
The whole province is full of attractions for architectural and cultural tourism. The small town of Santa Fe witnessed the preparations for the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus, and Fuente Vaqueros was the birthplace of Federico García Lorca, one of the most important poets and playwrights of Spanish literature.
The Granada plateau preserves the remains of a hominid dating back to one or two million years ago. The inhabitants of Baza, an Iberian people, bequeathed to posterity a relic of great historical and cultural value: the Lady of Baza (Iberian sculpture).
Countryside :
The province of Granada is characterized by a staircase of plateaus that descend from the peaks to the Mediterranean. These high plateaus and the altitude of the land make the winters very cold. This climate has a heavy influence on vegetation, agriculture, livestock and game.
The province of Granada is divided into three well-differentiated regions: the coast, the plain of Granada and the mountain region. Each of them has particular climatic, orographic, historical and geographical characteristics, which make it unique.
Around the 5th century BC. J.-C., coins minted by the Turdules testify to the origins of the capital of this superb province. In the 8th century, the Berbers conquered these lands which would reach their peak with the Nasrids, who would bring economic, social, artistic and cultural development, and whose influence remains palpable today.

With the peaks of the Sierra Nevada as a backdrop, this city stands out above all for its architecture and its emblematic monuments, such as the Alhambra. In 2019 Granada had a population of 232,462 people, of whom 124,907 were women and 107,555 men. The neighborhoods it has are very different from each other, partly due to the diversity of coexisting cultures and religions and, already in the 19th century, xx, due to the continued immigration that occurred until the 1990s in the context of de-ruralization; the most important are Zaidín, La Chana, Centro-Sagrario, Realejo, Albaicín, Sacromonte and Cartuja.

Hola familia,
En este vídeo descubriremos las 10 cosas que hay que ver y hacer en Saint George’s, la capital de la isla de Granada (Grenade).
Granada, isla del Caribe ubicada entre Trinidad y Tobago (al sur) y San Vicente y las Granadinas (al norte), es un micro-Estado de las Antillas. Este país es una monarquía parlamentaria cuyo jefe de estado es el mismísimo Rey de Inglaterra, Carlos III.
Granada es conocida por ser la isla de las especias por su producción de nuez moscada, canela, jengibre, macis, clavo y cacao.
St. George’s es una bonita ciudad que cuenta con muchos puntos de interés :
- The House of Chocolate (la casa del chocolate) : una cafetería - museo ideal para probar uno de los mejores chocolates del mundo (Jouvay).
- Carenage (donde se puede ver la estatua conmemorativa del naufragio del barco Bianca C, la cual ha sido regalada al pueblo de Granada por su ayuda durante el rescate) y la bahía de Saint George.
- Fort George.
- La Catedral.
- El Túnel Sendall.
- El mercado de las especias (market square).
- El pequeño tren turístico.
Y muchas más cosas !
Fuera de la capital, la isla cuenta con lugares emblemáticos (que no tuvimos tiempo de visitar) como : la playa de Grande Anse, las cascadas de Seven Sisters y Annandale, o las estatuas submarinas (underwater sculptures).
La verdad es que disfrutamos mucho de esta escala de un día durante nuestro crucero a bordo del Costa Fascinosa.
« Pure Grenada » es toda una experiencia !

Habiter le monde - Grenade (26 minutes)
Philippe se rend à Grenade, en Andalousie, à l’extrême sud de l’Espagne. Riche d’un passé unique, Grenade fut prise par les musulmans au VIIIe siècle. Le quartier de l’Albaicin garde encore aujourd’hui la trace de l’architecture mauresque, façonnée sous la dynastie des Nasrides entre les XIIIe et XVe siècles. Leur mode de vie a donné naissance à un habitat tourné vers l’intérieur, privilégiant intimité, confort et plaisir.
Pour comprendre ce mode de vie si particulier, Philippe rencontre tout d’abord Juan Manuel Segura, collectionneur et passionné par l’histoire de Grenade. Celui-ci l’accueille chez lui, dans l’un de ces patios de Grenade, havres de paix et de verdure, cachés à l’abri des regards. Ce type de constructions date de l’époque Nasride, lorsque l’on privilégiait une architecture de l’intimité.
Philippe découvre ensuite les « carmenes » : des villas agrémentées de jardins et de vergers. Ces espaces sont nés au XVIe siècle, suite à l’expulsion des populations musulmanes hors de Grenade. Emilio Gomez Villalva fait découvrir à Philippe son carmen et sa vue magnifique sur l’Alhambra.
Situées au pied de l’Alhambra, les maisons du quartier de l’Albaicin s’inspirent des jardins de ce palais, mais aussi des nombreuses mosaïques qui ornent ses murs. Pour en savoir plus, Philippe rencontre Shwaib Sanchez, artisan, qui lui explique le processus de fabrication des véritables azulejos, ces carreaux de faïence que l’on trouve dans les patios andalous dès le XVe siècle.
Patios et carmenes font aujourd’hui partie du patrimoine architectural de Grenade. Cependant, leur place, leur forme et leur fonction ont évolué au fil des siècles. Ainsi, les patios et les carmenes tels qu’ils existent aujourd’hui sont le résultat de traditions qui ont été adaptées, réinventées… D’une certaine manière, ces jardins sont représentatifs de l’identité de ceux qui y habitent, qui cherchent à en faire un reflet de leur personnalité.
Pour Philippe, les patios et les carmenes de Grenade sont bien plus qu’un témoignage de la culture arabo-andalouse. Ils mettent en avant une approche sensible de l’architecture : ici tout compte, ce que l’on voit, mais aussi les sons et les odeurs, les couleurs et les textures. Ils nous rappellent que l’architecture n’est pas qu’une question de style, de volumes ou de fonctions, mais aussi une question d’atmosphère et de sensations.

Walking in GRANADA / Spain ???????? - Evening Tour in the City Centre - 4K 60fps (UHD)
Granada in southern Spain’s Andalusia region is a popular tourist destination. With impressive medieval architecture from Moorish occupation, the Alhambra is one of the main sights while the old town also has many churches and monasteries from later periods.
On this evening walk we start near the Cathedral of Granada coming from Calle Gran Vía de Colón at the Calle Oficios. We check out the Iglesia del Sagrario which is connected to the cathedral and the walk around the old city centre.
There are mostly pedestrian streets that are getting busy on this evening (in February 2020). We see several squares like the Plaza de Mariana Pineda in the South, Plaza de Campillo Bajo with the fountain Fuente de las Batallas.
There in the commercial centre of Granada we visit the Church of St. Anton (Iglesia de San Antón) and keep walking North now until the Plaza De La Universidad.
It's getting dark now so we head back to the Cathedral and Plaza Nueva in the San Pedro district. After a while we see the Alhambra towering over Granada and end this walk in this Andalusian city.
