Grantham lies at the heart of attractive Lincolnshire countryside and villages: the Lincolnshire Edge to the north, the Vale of Belvoir to the west, fens to the east, and an almost mini-Cotswolds to the south east. Grantham's varied rural surroundings are the most visually pleasing part, (and often unacknowledged as such,) of Lincolnshire, more attractive than the celebrated, and largely bleak, Wolds.
This is a slideshow of shots taken during December 27th and 28th 2005, after a now unusually heavy fall of snow:
We see St Wulframs church, a shoot at Denton, Belvoir Castle and the road through, and views of, High Leys and Windsor Hill at Belvoir.
Then fields off the Gorse Lane to Croxton Kerrial road, Denton Manor gates, and Denton village.
Followed by fields off the A52 road between Cold Harbour and the Roman Café, in a heavy winter mist, into and around Old Somerby.

Filmed in the early afternoon in early Autumn (October 2022). Continuation from Huddersfield North Premier Inn to A1(M). Starts just before we join the A1(M) at Junction 32a, and ends just after Markham Moor Interchange.

DB Cargo's 60062 Sonia on the Wolverhampton Steel Empties at Boston
The Poacher Line, between Grantham and Skegness, only has one regular freight working between Boston and Wolverhampton Steel Terminal.
Steel coils are delivered by ship to the Port of Boston. They are loaded onto BYA bogie coil carrier wagons and shunted up the 3/4 mile branch line to Boston Sleaford Sidings. From there they are transported by rail to Wolverhampton, where they are offloaded to continue their journey by road to various customers throughout the West Midlands.
This short video features train 6E02, the 1220 Toton Up Sidings to Boston Sleaford Sidings, which is hauled today by DB Cargo's 60062 Sonia and consists of a rake of 20 empty BYA wagons ready for loading. 60062 is a bit of a DB celebrity, sporting a rather fetching steel on steel livery.
The locomotive slowly draws into Boston Station, stopping much shorter than I expected it to. It then reversed into Sleaford Sidings, much to the relief of the traffic and pedestrians kept waiting at West Street level crossing, who had been kept waiting for around 5 minutes by this time.
I also filmed the hourly stopping services either side of 6E02's arrival. These run between Nottingham and Skegness and usually consist of class 158 Express Sprinter or class 170 Turbostar units.
It was bitterly cold and blowing a gale - or as the Lincolnshire Tourist Board would say, a day of bracing fresh air! That being the case, I apologise for any wind noise you can hear.
