Road Trip #162 - US-80 W - Grambling to Gibsland, Louisiana
We continue west on US Highway 80, beginning at the western city limits of Grambling, Louisiana. We pass through the village of Simsboro, and then enter Bienville Parish. In the town of Arcadia, US-80 briefly merges with LA-9 along 1st Street, then jogs a block north at Beech Street onto 2nd Street. The LA-9 concurrency ends, and we leave Arcadia. The video concludes as we enter the town of Gibsland.

Road Trip #160 - US-80 W - Claiborne to Ruston, Louisiana
We continue west on US Highway 80, beginning at the western border of the community of Claiborne. US-80 crosses to the south side of I-20, and passes through the census designated place of Calhoun. Then, we cross into Lincoln Parish at the Louisiana meridian, and pass through the village of Choudrant, home of the annual Outhouse Grand Nationals outhouse races. We conclude as we enter the city of Ruston, Louisiana.

Road Trip #357 - US Highway 190 West - LA-113/Reeves to LA-110/Longville, Louisiana
We continue west on US-190, beginning at Reeves, Louisiana in Allen Parish. On this strech of road, we see about 10 miles without any major crossroads, and we also run into some bad weather with dark skies and a brief rain shower. On the way, we enter Beauregard Parish. As we approach the junction of US-171 at Ragley, some ambiguous signage led us to believe that US-190 followed a different path from US-171, and we missed our turn. Once we corrected this and headed north on the concurrency of US-190 and US-171, the weather cleared up and we actually had some good lighting, with the sun behind us. We conclude at the census designated place of Longville.

Bayou Classic Vlog | Grambling and Southern in epic battle!
I got a chance to attend the 50th annual Bayou Classic in New Orleans, and I was afforded the opportunity to get a sideline pass. It was fun to see the World Famed Tiger Marching Band -- the baddest band in the land -- compete against the Human Jukebox.
The Bayou Classic, ranked as the #1 HBCU Classic in the nation, is the iconic collegiate gridiron matchup between Grambling State University and Southern University, which took place on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, La.
The Bayou Classic celebrated its 50th year with the matchup, as fans across the nation journeyed to New Orleans. Southern University ended up winning the game 27-22.
Southern's Kendric Rhymes won the Bayou Classic MVP with 103 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Floyd Chalk IV was the MVP for Grambling State with 172 yards and a touchdown.

Shreveport (/ˈʃriːvpɔːrt/ SHREEV-port) is a city in the U.S. state of Louisiana. It is the most populous one in the Shreveport–Bossier City metropolitan area, and ranks third in population in Louisiana after Baton Rouge and New Orleans; with the Lafayette consolidated population in 2019, it ranks fourth in population. Its bulk is in Caddo Parish, of which it is the parish seat.[4] It extends along the west bank of the Red River (most notably at Wright Island, the Charles and Marie Hamel Memorial Park, and Bagley Island) into neighboring Bossier Parish. Its population was 199,311 at the 2010 U.S. census.[5] The United States Census Bureau's 2020 census for the city's population decreased to 187,593.[6]
Shreveport was founded in 1836 by the Shreve Town Company, a corporation established to develop a town at the juncture of the newly navigable Red River and the Texas Trail, an overland route into the newly independent Republic of Texas. Prior to Texas becoming independent, this trail entered Mexico.[7] It grew throughout the 20th century and, after the discovery of oil in Louisiana, became a national center for the oil industry. Standard Oil of Louisiana (absorbed by Standard Oil of New Jersey and now part of ExxonMobil) and United Gas Corporation (now part of Pennzoil) were headquartered in it until the 1960s and 1980s. After the loss of jobs in the oil industry, the close of Shreveport Operations (a General Motors vehicle factory), and other economic problems it struggled with a declining population, poverty, drugs and violent crime.[8] Since Cedric Glover's tenure as the mayor, it began efforts to revitalize its infrastructure to end its population decline,[9][10][11] revive the economy through diversification,[12][13][14] and lower crime.[15]
Shreveport is the educational, commercial and cultural center of the Ark-La-Tex region, where Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas meet. It is the location of Centenary College of Louisiana, Louisiana State University Shreveport, Louisiana Tech University Shreveport, Southern University at Shreveport, and Louisiana Baptist University. Its neighboring suburb, Bossier City, is the location of Bossier Parish Community College. Discovering The Mysterious City of Ruston, Louisiana
Home of Louisiana Tech University, the small city of Ruston (population 22,000) can be considered a college town. There’s a lot more to it, though. The 260-acre Lincoln Parish Park is one of the premiere mountain biking destinations in the region, with around 11 miles of single-track riding geared to all levels. There are also lots of opportunities for walking, camping, and fishing in the park.
The small business scene in Ruston’s historic downtown area is booming, and is the perfect location to let loose and fuel up after a hard day on the trails. If you’re around in June, you’ll want to check out the annual Peach Festival, now in its 67th year. It’s chock full of events like a parade, antique car show, rodeo, and a peach cobbler eating contest.

Road Trip #166 - US-80 W/US-79 S - Bossier City, Louisiana
We head west on US-80 and south on US-79 through Bossier City, Louisiana. It was rainy at the beginning of the video, but we ran out of daylight shortly after going through Bossier City, and doubled back a bit to get some video the next day, so we go from rainy weather to bright sunshine midway through this video.

American Auto Trail-Dixie Overland Highway (Ada to Grambling, LA)
The Automobile Club of Savannah conceived the Dixie Overland Highway in July 1914. At that time, the club made a path-finding tour across the State of Georgia from Savannah to Columbus. The cross Georgia highway again revived the thought suggested by the pioneers, and an ocean to ocean highway was projected. It was then developed that the Dixie Overland Highway when constructed will be the shortest, straightest, and only year round, ocean to ocean highway, in the United States.
This episode in the Auto Trails channel at YouTube explores a segment of the Dixie Overland Highway through North Central Louisiana. The designation of U.S. 80 replaced the Dixie Overland Highway name in 1925. Come explore the last days of Bonnie and Clyde, Grambling University, and a World War II prisoner of war camp along this auto trail.

Driving back to the USA using the Calexico-Mexicali East Border Crossing - April 2023
There are 2 US-Mexico border crossings between Calexico and Mexicali. They’re referred to as the East Border Crossing and the West Border Crossing.
This video shows my preferred route driving from Hwy. 5 to the Calexico-Mexicali East Border Crossing. As I have noted in my previous videos, I stopped relying solely on GPS when driving around Mexicali after some misadventures. Instead, I use landmarks that I noted in this video, and use GPS only as a supplemental navigation tool.
This route goes this way:
*From south Baja along Federal Hwy. 5 driving northbound, right turn to Calz. Manuel Gomez Morin.
*Stay along Calz. Manuel Morin and before the 7th traffic light, right turn Calz. Cetys.
*Continue on Calz. Cetys and at the 4th traffic light, turn left to Calz. Abelardo Rodriguez.
*Continue on Calz. Abelardo Rodriguez until you see the various border crossing entrances.
I prefer this route because it stays along major city streets.
