GRAFTON - Heaven in the Shadow of Zion National Park | Ghost Towns of Southern UTAH
Set against the backdrop of Zion National Park is the ghost town of Grafton, Utah. Mormon pioneers settled into a community and farmed for decades despite flooding. Today beautifully preserved buildings are open for visitors to explore.
In the late 1850s, Mormon families in the area settled in communities near the Virgin River, hoping to eke out an existence. They banked much of their farming efforts on growing cotton, however, floods and an oversight in planting necessary crops such as corn, cane, and other food necessary for families to survive.
Floods, difficult conditions and constant tending to irrigation canals made living here difficult, and eventually, families packed up and moved on seeking out better land. What remained were a number of buildings - homes, barns, and a church - for visitors to explore. Some restoration and preservation have been made on the buildings.
Due to the very scenic background of Zion National Park in the background, the ghost town has also served as a set in numerous movies over time as well.

Grafton Notch State Park Maine
Grafton Notch State Park is on the western border of Maine. Rt. 26 passes right through the park of 71 miles. There are a lot of turnoffs that are RV friendly. Definitely take the time to explore this gem.

Grafton, VT 【Charming Small Towns in Vermont】
In the early 19th century, sheep raising became popular and multiple woolen mills sprang up along the branches of the Saxtons River. Soapstone was quarried on nearby Bear Mountain. The town became a notable stagecoach hub for traffic across the Green Mountains into Albany, New York. One inn from that era, the Old Tavern, was founded in 1801. It remains one of the oldest continually operating hotels in the United States.
Grafton had a population of almost 1,500 just before the American Civil War. The town suffered severe losses during the Civil War. Local cemeteries in the village hold many tombstones of casualties from the Battle of Gettysburg. After the war, the community declined in population. The soapstone quarry was depleted and closed late in the 19th century. Around the time of the Great Depression, the town's population was less than 400.
In the 1960s the Windham Foundation was established to help restore the village. It purchased the Old Tavern and many residences in the area. The foundation also established an artisanal cheese business, the Grafton Village Cheese Company, and built a world-class cross-country skiing center at Grafton Ponds that offers a popular mountain biking program for children in the summer months. The restoration efforts attracted new residents from metropolitan New York and Boston.
As of the census of 2000, there were 649 people, 291 households, and 190 families residing in the town. The population density was 16.9 people per square mile.

Grafton, Ohio
Grafton is a village in Lorain County, Ohio. In 1846, sandstone was discovered and it began drawing immigrants from Poland, Wales, Ireland, and Germany. Immaculate Conception Church is a historic church in Grafton, Ohio. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. The parish originally in La Porte, was organized in 1836-1840, as the first catholic church formed between Cleveland and Sandusky. In 1865 the church building was moved to the present sight in Grafton, Ohio. The Old Belden one room schoolhouse built in 1883, was such a great find. Its current use is a museum operated by the Belden Historical Society which preserves the history of Grafton Township. I found the old cemetery so interesting walking along reading the old head stones dating back to the early 1800's, knowing these were the early settlers to this area of Grafton. Grafton Ohio is a family friendly community with great history.
