Even though we only spent a short time in Newcastle on this trip, we loved exploring the city and can't wait to visit again. I'm at the Holiday Inn Gosforth Park, which is just 10 minuets from Newcastle Airport. Like every Holiday Inn you'll find great service and a comfy bed. But that's not all, there's free wifi throughout the hotel, and loads of comfy places to take advantage of it.
And there's more than one place to enjoy a bite to eat. I'm going to try out the hotel's Brasserie. There's plenty to choose from the well priced menu, and as you can see the portions are pretty big too!
If you fancy more laid back dining then the bar serves food and drink late into the evening. Or you could always veg out in your pjs from the 24 hour room service menu. And when you're full to the brim you can sink into your comfy bed, you'll have a choice of pillow, and the option to sleep in until 11am.
If sleep isn't on the cards for you just yet, there's a pool behind me for a gentle work out, but after my short stay I defiantly need to burn off a few calories in the gym.
Holiday Extras, we take the hassle, you take the holiday.

Whitley Bay is a seaside town on the north east coast of England. Historically in Northumberland, it is now part of Tyne and Wear. Whitley Bay has absorbed the village of Monkseaton. Though since known officially as Whitley Bay, many residents still refer to the town as 'Whitley'.
Whitley Bay is around 10 miles from Newcastle upon Tyne. It is bounded by the coastline of the North Sea to the east. North Shields and Tynemouth are to the south. The village of Monkseaton is now absorbed into the town. St Mary's Island, a tidal island at the northern tip of the town, is the site of a lighthouse, one of the town's landmarks.
The Tyne and Wear Metro line runs through the town with stations near the town centre (Whitley Bay), as well as in Monkseaton, West Monkseaton and Cullercoats. A Metro journey to Newcastle city centre takes around 25 minutes.

Newcastle upon Tyne
Newcastle upon Tyne, commonly known as Newcastle, is a city in the metropolitan county of Tyne and Wear in North East England. It is situated on the north western bank of the River Tyne's estuary and centred 8.5 mi (13.7 km) from the North Sea. Newcastle is the most populous city in the North East region and lies at the urban core of the Tyneside, the seventh most populous conurbation in the United Kingdom and the most populous in the North East. Newcastle is a member of the English Core Cities Group[6] and, with Gateshead, the Eurocities network of European cities. Newcastle was part of the county of Northumberland until 1400, when it became a county of itself, a status it retained until becoming part of the Tyne and Wear metropolitan county in 1974.
The city developed in the location of the Roman settlement called Pons Aelius. It was named for the castle built in 1080, by Robert Curthose, William the Conqueror's eldest son. The city grew as an important centre for the wool trade in the 14th century, and it later became a major coal mining area. The port developed in the 16th century and, along with the shipyards lower down the river, was amongst the world's largest shipbuilding and ship-repairing centres. Newcastle's economy includes corporate headquarters, learning, digital technology, retail, tourism and cultural centres, from which the city contributes £13bn towards the United Kingdom's GVA.
Among its main icons are Newcastle Brown Ale, a leading brand of beer; Newcastle United F.C., a Premier League football team; and the Tyne Bridge. It has hosted the world's most popular half marathon, the Great North Run, since it began in 1981.
The regional nickname and dialect for people from Newcastle and the surrounding area is Geordie.
