Tegernsee is a picturesque lake located in the Bavarian Alps of southern Germany. The lake itself is approximately 6.5 kilometers (4 miles) long and 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles) wide, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and forests.

The lake is fed by several mountain streams and is renowned for its crystal-clear water, making it a popular spot for swimming, boating, and other water activities during the summer months.

Walking Around Germany's Most Expensive And Beautiful Place | Tegernsee Germany 4k
Tegernsee city is located in the Tegernsee valley, on the eastern shore of Lake Tegernsee in the Oberland and on the northern edge of the Alps. The entire lake including the only island (Ringseeinsel) is part of the urban area. Around four kilometers east of the city center is the 1448 meter high Baumgarten Schneid on the municipal boundary to Rottach-Egern.
The neighboring communities are Gmund in the north and Rottach-Egern in the south. Bad Wiessee is located on the western shore of Lake Tegernsee. In the east, the Tegernsee municipal area borders on the area of the municipality of Schliersee. However, Schliersee cannot be reached directly from Tegernsee by any public road.
The Alpbach flows through the city center. The municipal boundary between Tegernsee and Rottach-Egern runs partly along the Rottach.

Tegernsee is a townin the Miesbach district of Bavaria, Germany. It is located on the shore of Lake Tegernsee. A spa town, it is surrounded by an alpine landscape of Upper Bavaria, and has an economy mainly based on tourism.
The town is home to a former Benedictine monastery, the Tegernsee Abbey. Today the building is a Schloss. The northern wing of the abbey contains a brewery that produces the famous Tegernsee Lager Beer.

The Tegernseer Höhenweg keeps what the name of this pleasure dream tour promises: This easy hike leads to the most beautiful vantage points around Lake Tegernsee. A worthwhile destination for less experienced mountain hikers and families with children. The Höhenweg leads gently up and down from Gmund to Tegernsee. The highest point of the tour in the Tegernsee Schliersee Alpine region, which lies in the Bavarian Prealps, is at 818 m.
Directions
The hike starts at the car park in the Gasse district, from there you hike first in the direction of Ober- and Unterbuchberg. From here you follow the Höhenweg via Sankt Quirin to Tegernsee.
You can easily return by bus, train or boat.
If you arrive by bus, follow the signs for the Tegernseer Höhenweg from Gmund train station.

The Tegernsee is located around 50 km south of Munich in the Bavarian Alps and is a destination for excursions and tourists. It is one of the cleanest lakes in Bavaria, as a continuous ring sewage system was created around the lake as early as the 1960s.
The lake is located in the conservation area of Tegernsee and the surrounding area. It is owned by the Free State of Bavaria and is managed by the Bavarian Administration for State Palaces, Gardens and Lakes, Chiemsee branch in Prien.
The name of the lake was first handed down in the form Tegarinseo from the year 796, when the princely brothers Oatkar and Adalbert founded a monastery on tegarin seo, which is Old High German and means big lake. A Celtic root word meaning lord or prince comes into question, but also the origin of Lehm-Tiegel assumed for neighboring place names such as Tegernbach or Tegerndorf. A historical source from the 19th century traces the name back to the Tigurini people.
During the last ice age, known as the Würm Ice Age, the Tegernsee tongue of the Inn Glacier stretched far north into the plain, reaching a maximum around 20,000 years ago. Through its erosive forces, the glacier created a tongue basin that later filled with water. The elongated shape of the Tegernsee clearly shows this glacial morphological formation.
