Albany NY - The Most UNDERRATED City in America

#albany #travelusa #newyork #unitedstates #america #amerika #walkingtour #walking #gopro10 #goprohero10
Albany is the capital of the U.S. state of New York, also the seat and largest city of Albany County.
The city is known for its architecture, commerce, culture, institutions of higher education, and rich history. It is the economic and cultural core of the Capital District of the State of New York.
Albany is one of the oldest surviving European settlements from the original thirteen colonies and the longest continuously chartered city in the United States. When New Netherland was captured by the English in 1664, the name was changed from Beverwijck to Albany in honor of the Duke of Albany (later James II of England and James VII of Scotland).

In 1754, representatives of seven British North American colonies met in the Stadt Huys, Albany's city hall, for the Albany Congress; Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania presented the Albany Plan of Union there, which was the first formal proposal to unite the colonies.
During and after the Revolutionary War, Albany County saw a great increase in real estate transactions. After Horatio Gates defeated John Burgoyne at Saratoga in 1777, the upper Hudson Valley was generally at peace as the war raged on elsewhere. Prosperity was soon seen all over Upstate New York.
On November 17, 1793, a large fire broke out, destroying 26 homes on Broadway, Maiden Lane, James Street, and State Street. The fire originated at a stable belonging to Leonard Gansevoort and was suspected to be arson set by enslaved people.
In 1797, the state capital of New York was moved permanently to Albany. From statehood to this date, the Legislature had frequently moved the state capital between Albany, Kingston, Hurley, Poughkeepsie, and the city of New York.
The Palace Theatre and The Egg are mid-sized forums for music, theater, and spoken-word performances; the Capital Repertory Theatre is smaller. The TU Center is the city's largest musical venue for nationally and internationally prominent bands.
In recent years, the city's government has invested resources to cultivate venues and neighborhoods that attract after-hours business. Madison Avenue, Pearl Street, Delaware Avenue and Lark Street are the most active entertainment areas in the city. Many restaurants, clubs, and bars have opened since the mid-1990s, revitalizing areas that had once been abandoned and reclaiming old row houses, businesses, and a pump station.
Alive at 5 is a free, weekly concert series held downtown during the summer on Thursdays; with 10 concerts in 2010, total attendance was roughly 100,000.
The Tulip Festival is set in Washington Park and celebrates the city's Dutch heritage.
With the large number of local colleges and universities around Albany, college sports are popular. The University at Albany's Great Danes play at the Division I level in all sports. The football team is a member of the Colonial Athletic Association while all other sports teams play as members of the America East Conference.
Authors Herman Melville and Henry James lived with their families in Albany when young, before their careers. James identified his character Isabel Archer, the heroine of his novel The Portrait of a Lady, as being from Albany
The Albany Institute of History and Art, on Washington Avenue near the Center Square Neighborhood and State Capitol, is dedicated to collecting, preserving, interpreting and promoting interest in the history, art, culture of Albany and the Upper Hudson Valley region. The museum's most notable permanent exhibits include an extensive collection of paintings by the Hudson River School and an exhibit on Ancient Egypt featuring the institute's Albany Mummies.

Driving in Historic Johnstown - New York, USA

Johnstown is a city in and the county seat of Fulton County in the U.S. state of New York. The city was named after its founder, Sir William Johnson, Superintendent of Indian Affairs in the Province of New York and a major general during the Seven Years' War in North America. It is located approximately 45 miles (72 km) northwest of Albany, about one-third of the way between Albany and the Finger Lakes region to the west, in the Mohawk Valley region, within the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains.

The city of Johnstown is mostly surrounded by the town of Johnstown, of which it was once a part when it was a village. Adjacent to Johnstown is the City of Gloversville. The two cities are together known as the Glove Cities due to their history of manufacturing gloves and other leather apparel. Gloversville and Johnstown together constituted the center of the American glove industry for 90 years until competition from other countries drove most of the manufacturers out of business.

Acadia National Park, America's Crown Jewel - Maine, USA

Acadia National Park protects the natural beauty of the highest rocky headlands along the Atlantic coastline of the United States, an abundance of habitats, and rich cultural heritage. At 3.5 million visits a year, it's one of the top 10 most-visited national parks in the United States. Visitors enjoy 27 miles of historic motor roads, 158 miles of hiking trails, and 45 miles of carriage roads.

Acadia National Park falls in the top ten list of most visited parks in the United States, welcoming more than three million travelers every year. Early risers can drive, bike, or walk to watch the sunrise along Acadia's beautiful rocky shoreline on Ocean Drive. They'll be among the first in the United States to see the dawning of a new day. Later they can enjoy dinner or stop in for popovers and strawberry jam at the famous Jordan Pond House, a delightful restaurant founded in the early 1870s.

Established by Woodrow Wilson in 1916 with 6,000 acres, Acadia now covers more than 49,000 acres thanks to the remarkable dedication and philanthropy of wealthy private citizens such as Charles W. Eliot, George B. Dorr, and JohnD. Rockefeller, Jr. The park encompasses nearly half of Mount Desert Island, scattering smaller islands and the Schoodic Peninsula.

Motorists who drive the Park Loop Road enjoy a 27-mile ride along oceanside cliffs and through mountain forests, stopping at scenic turnouts and notable attractions along the way, such as the mighty Thunder Hole and Sand Beach. The trip is a must.

One of the most impressive features of Acadia National Park is the interlaced system of hiking trails and carriage roads. With varying lengths and levels of difficulty, the 125 miles of trails appeal to everyone, from casual walkers to seasoned triathletes. Hike, bike, snowshoe, cross country ski – or go by horse-drawn carriage.

Since Acadia is so popular in the summer, plan to avoid traffic congestion and long waits. Hike, bike, or walk to popular attractions in the early morning or late afternoons to avoid crowds or take the fare-free Island Explorer bus instead of driving.

My Travel to Upstate New York (What is a Hamlet?)

My Travel to Upstate New York (What is a Hamlet?)

I had never heard of Meco, NY. It isn't exactly a big city. Actually, it's not even a town... Meco is a Hamlet within the town of Johnstown. What is a Hamlet? I have no clue. But when I left Manhattan to head upstate I found a new favorite brewery at Stump City Brewing and took a four-wheeler through the woods to have some Genesee Cream Ale at a bar called Concordia Club. I found that New York state has much more to offer than just New York City!

Where to find Stump City Brewing
