Best Things to Do in the Inland Empire, California

The Inland Empire (IE) is a vast metropolitan area located inland from Los Angeles in south-central California. The Inland Empire is a wonderful spot to take your kids or other members of your family for some outdoor fun. There is a wide variety of amusing activities available, and the people that live there are warm and hospitable. It doesn't matter if you're into history, the great outdoors, or just want to have some good old-fashioned fun; this region of California has something that will pique your interest.

The word inland, which likely originated from the region's position around 60 miles inland between Los Angeles and the Pacific Ocean, was likely used by local developers in an effort to market and underline the area's unique characteristics. The off-the-beaten-path activities and attractions are just a few of the many things to explore here. One of the best things to do in the Inland Empire, California, includes getting a feel for the thrill at Skull Canyon Ziplines. The event is open to people of all ages and ability levels. You'll enjoy breathtaking views of the harsh landscape below as you soar through the skies in the comfortable warmth. You should rent a GoPro camera to attach to your helmet like many other daredevils do because a video of your time in Skull Canyon will make for an excellent memento.

Another of the best things to do in the Inland Empire, California, is to attend Jazz in the Pines.
Jazz in the Pines is a fortnightly festival and a famous fundraiser held each year in Idyllwild. The jazz festival could serve as a bridge between established musicians and aspiring young jazz artists, a goal of Idyllwild Arts. Throughout the day and night, local and out-of-town guests are entertained by performances by students and renowned jazz pros. If you intend to enjoy as much of the Inland Empire, California, as possible, staying for at least a week is ideal. The city is filled with so many things to see, do, and eat.

Oak Glen Travel Guide | California Travel Tips

California travel expert Veronica Hill shares her Oak Glen Travel Guide in this episode of California Travel Tips.

If you're looking for a taste of New England in sunny Southern California, Oak Glen is a wonderful place you won't want to miss.

More than 60 varieties of apples are grown in Oak Glen, making it the largest apple growing region in Southern California. Here, you'll find everything from tart pink pearls to sweet honey crisps and everything in between.

There are about 10 different Oak Glen apple farms along Oak Glen Road, and each offers its own unique charm.

Start at Oak Tree Village, where you can grab breakfast at the historic Law's Coffee House or Apple Annie's, then head to Colonial Chesterfield, for a tour through its living history displays or a hayride through the orchards.

At Riley's Log Cabin Farm, you can try your hand at tomahawk throwing, make a corn husk doll, press your own cider, or pick your own Oak Glen apples. (You have to pay for them of course).

Each bakery sells its own famous hot apple pies, caramel apples, and apple butter, but for a real treat stop at Snow-Line Orchard, where you can sample fresh cider doughnuts rolled in cinnamon sugar. It's heaven in a bag.

While you're there, watch the workers press fresh cider, then head inside for a sample of three varieties, which are flash pasteurized for safety.

Oak Glen's picturesque environment is perfect for hiking, picnicking and family fun, whether you visit during the crisp months of fall or the warm days of summer.

Oak Glen California - Apple Picking Near Los Angeles

A guide for visiting Oak Glen, in California. A great day-trip from Los Angeles, Oak Glen is a “mile-high” desert town just 80 miles east of downtown LA with a neat rustic feel. It’s touristy, but not overly so. Oak Glen is famous for growing apples, and apple picking, but it’s a great destination year round. Oak Glen Road is a five mile scenic loop of 30+ ranches, farms and businesses. The first apple orchard opened here in 1876, the mega ranch is Los Rios Rancho.

Generally the apple season festivities start on Labor Day Weekend, but check the ranch websites for when apple picking starts… Typically go through mid November. Weekends are the most busy.

Stop by one of the many apple farms and eat some Apple Pies, Apple Dumplings, Apple Butter, Apple Bread, Apple Juice, and even more apple things! Some of our favorite farms include: Willowbrook, Riley’s, and Snow Line.

Hungry? Stop by Apple Annie’s and get the 5 pound, mile-high apple pie. And if you eat at the restaurant, the main entrees come with unlimited seconds… you eat until you aren’t hungry anymore.
