Celtic Country around Glen Innes, ep 96
Welcome back to Northern NSW,this week I'm having a good look around the Glen Innes area,Celtic Country.
With the standing stones at Glen Innes is a good place to start,it's a bit like Stonehenge.
Into some National Parks
Raspberry lookout is nice,Boundary and Lyrebird Falls are a good visit too.
I tried to get to Gibraltar National Park but the road was under repair not for 2wd at the time.
Granite lookout was another place I visited.
Next couple of days I went just North to Torrington Forest reserve I think it's called.
Now this was another great place with Captain Thunderbolts lookout (he seemed to have moved around alot ),Onto the Mystry face walk,so many interesting formations in the Granite and Mystery face really looks like a face.
I know it's a long video but I did take heaps of footage .

World Heritage wilderness, gem fossicking and a Celtic festival are some of the charms of this captivating rural town in the beautiful New England High Country of NSW. Historic Glen Innes has 30 heritage-listed buildings and a picture-postcard main street.
With the countryside reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands, European settlers named the area the Glen Innes Highlands. This Celtic connection is honoured at the Australian Standing Stones monument and the annual Australian Celtic Festival in May, a highlight of the events calendar.
This pretty area is on the Fossickers Way touring route and nicknamed gemstone country because of sapphires and other gems discovered here. Pick up a fossicking map from the Glen Innes Visitor Information Centre, and try your luck searching for precious and semiprecious stones.
Find more gems at the Minerama Fossicking, Gem and Jewellery Show in March, the largest of its kind in NSW. Other great things to do include visiting the Land of Beardies History House Museum and the Emmaville Mining Museum, and taking a Country Art Escapes cultural tour.
Glen Innes is around seven hours’ drive from Sydney and just over four from Brisbane. The closest airport is in Armidale and you can hire a car for the one-hour drive north. Places to stay include campgrounds and caravan parks, rural cottages and B&Bs.
We stayed a night at the Glen Innes Central Motel on Meade Street. Great hotel and amazing hosts.

Glen Innes (Sapphire Country)
We left Waterfall Way and had a few days at Yamba doing some family history for my maternal grandmother's side.
After that we drove over the Gibraltar Range - which is a very windy and steep for over 10kms and a challenge for the car and caravan (by the way was full of 180 litres of water).
Into Glen Innes and out the other side to our Hipcamp stop at Bullock Mountain, where we had a large area to ourselves and wonderful ensuite facilities. The owner was also building more accommodation while we were there.
The dirt road is no problems, 2wd would make it easily.
We stayed 5 nights and loved watching the weather change, headed off twice to do some sapphire panning - and actually found a few tiny bits. We drove around the mountain on the dirt tracks.
Glen Innes is a lovely town with plenty of cafes, supermarkets and hardware stores.

Another fantastic snow chase. I left sunny and mild Brisbane after work Wednesday as snow showers fell in my target area Guyra / Ben Lomond. I reached there after 9pm, with some snow on the ground. Later in the evening, 2-4cm of snow fell, leaving the area a beautiful white Winter wonderland!
No snow for a few hours, but it recommenced late morning on Thursday, and continued non-stop with some great snowfall footage to be had. The snow increased later, and fearing a highway closure (which happened not long after we left), we went north towards Glen Innes. Some great snow in GI - the first time I'd seen snow there! (1067m). It was also a treat to see snow fall at the Australian Standing Stones!
