I was on a recent trip to magnificent Germany a few weeks ago and I had an opportunity to stop by Giessen, Germany where I had lived for four years as a kid.
My time in Giessen on this trip was very short but I am very grateful for my time spent in the early evening and early morning in Giessen.

A Quick Trip to Friedberg, Germany
In this video I share some of the highlights of my quick trip to Friedberg, Germany.
Friedberg is a small town in Germany 25-kilometers away from Frankfurt am Main.
I visited Friedberg during the middle of August and it was surprisingly quiet. There were hardly any tourists around and my girlfriend that I had the town to ourselves to explore.
After an hour there wasn't much else to do in Friedberg so we continued on with the rest of our Central European and German road trip.

Gießen is a university in the Landkreis Giessen in Mittelhessen and with 90,131 inhabitants (31 December 2020) the largest city of Hesse and one of the State Statistics Offices of the Landes. As the seat of the Gießen district and the regional district, it is the Mittelhessens administrative center, a local traffic police station and a regional center.
Within a kilometer west of Wetzlar in the Lahn-Dill district, the city has an agglomeration room with about 200,000 inhabitants, in the vicinity of the region comes to approx. 275,000 entrants. In other directions, the city of Marburg (Landkreis Marburg-Biedenkopf) is located, Fulda (Landkreis Fulda) is located in the Vogelsbergs, Siegen (Kreis Siegen-Wittgenstein) in Southwestfalen, Friedberg (Hessen) and Bad Nauheim in Bad Limburg. Butzbach is a town in the Wetteraukreis district in Hessen, Germany. It is located approximately 16 km south of Gießen and 35 km north of Frankfurt am Main.

Büdingen is a town in the Wetteraukreis, in Hesse, Germany. It is mainly known for its well-preserved, heavily fortified medieval town wall and half-timbered houses.
Büdingen is in the south of the Wetterau below the Vogelsberg hills at an altitude of approx. 160 meters. The city is situated 15 km northwest of Gelnhausen and about 40 km east of Frankfurt am Main. Historically, the city belongs to Oberhessen.

I had a quiet wander around this historic medieval town. This town in Hessen is called Friedberg. And everything you will see today is because of the humanity of the people who negotiated and saved it on the 29th of March 1945. This town has the most incredible sights to see. It´s a treasure trove for people who are interested in German history and culture.
My meditative videos show a calming and artistic view of the places I visit and the quiet, peaceful wanders I take through them. Medieval villages, picturesque cottages, beautiful cities. Schrödinger's viaduct: the 24 Halls of Friedberg
It's a railway viaduct, built in 1850 against the better judgement of the railway company, at the insistence of a local aristocrat. The 24 Halls of Friedberg still stand to this day, and nobody knows what to do with them. It probably doesn't help that some bureaucratic red tape means that it's legally supposed to be demolished... but can't legally be demolished.

Giessen, Sehenswürdigkeiten der Universitätsstadt an der Lahn
Die Universitätsstadt Giessen (Hessen) ist geprägt von der 50er Jahre Architektur und einigen Gründerzeitbauten. Daneben sind noch das Alte und das Neue Schloss sowie das Theater sehenswert.

Auf dem Rad bis an die Grenzen | doku | erlebnis hessen
Es wird richtig anstrengend: eine fünftägige Fahrradtour von Limburg nach Bad Hersfeld, einmal quer durch Hessen von West nach Ost. Etwa 200 Kilometer liegen vor ihnen, mit einer großen Herausforderung, der Überquerung des Vogelsbergs.
Sie treffen sich am Limburger Dom: Petra Schildwächter, durchtrainierter Fitnesscoach, und Danny Morgenstern, Kino- und Theaterfan auf einem geliehenem Fahrrad. Bei dieser Tour soll der Niedersachse Hessen vom Rad aus kennenlernen. Womit Petra den untrainierten Radler Danny auch bei Regen und sogar Hagel immer wieder motivieren kann: nach fünf Tagen warten die Premiere des Musicals Titanic und ein Blick hinter die Kulissen der Hersfelder Stiftsruine auf ihn.
Unterwegs gibt es nicht nur tolle Landschaft, sondern auch viele spannende Zwischenstopps, die Petra eingeplant hat.

Naturdenkmal Unica-Steinbruch in Villmar
380 Millionen Jahre Erdgeschichte, ein Stein gewordenes Meeresriff – so gibt es das wirklich nur in Hessen. In Villmar wurde früher der berühmte Lahn-Marmor abgebaut. Der war international bekannt und begehrt und wurde u.a. verbaut in Berlin im Dom, in der Kaisertreppe und in Wiesbaden im Spielcasino. Von Hessen ging er in die ganze Welt. Sogar für die Eingangshalle des Empire State Building in New York nutzte man den einzigartigen Stein aus Hessen.
Der Unica-Bruch in Villmar gehört als Nationales Geotop zu den bedeutendsten geologischen Sehenswürdigkeiten Deutschlands.

Mit der Übernachtung im Gederner Schloss beginnt die Vogelsbergetappe von 5Wochen5Trails (obwohl genau genommen das Schloss im Wetteraukreis liegt :-) )
An diesem ersten Morgen heißt der Bürgermeister unsere Wanderer willkommen und sogleich beginnt eine üppige Führung mit Schloss, Park und zwei Museen.
Aber hinter dem Schloss ... da wartet auf unsere Helden eine echte Überraschung ...
