TOP 5 BEST PLACE TO VISIT IN IKEJA LAGOS STATE NIGERIA UNBELIEVABLE VIEWS 2023

This article is about the city, officially known as Lagos Metropolis Area. For other uses, see Lagos (disambiguation).

Lagos (Nigeria, UK: /ˈleɪɡɒs/ LAY-gos;[9] US: /ˈlɑːɡoʊs/LAH-gouus;[10][note 2] Yoruba: Èkó) or Lagos City is the most populous city in Nigeria, with an estimated population of 21 million[12] in 2015. The estimated population for Lagos was more than 26 million in 2023[citation needed]; and around 30 million for the Lagos metropolitan area. Lagos is the most populous urban area in Africa.[13] Lagos was the national capital of Nigeria until December 1991 following the government's decision to move their capital to Abuja in the center of the country. Lagos is a major African financial center and is the economic hub of Lagos State and Nigeria at large. The city has been described as the cultural, financial, and entertainment capital of Africa, and is a significant influence on commerce, entertainment, technology, education, politics, tourism, art, and fashion. Lagos is also among the top ten of the world's fastest-growing cities and urban areas.[21][22] The megacity has the fourth-highest GDP in Africa[2][23] and houses one of the largest and busiest seaports on the continent.[24][25][26] The Lagos metropolitan area is a major educational and cultural center in Sub Saharan Africa.[27] Due to the large urban population and port traffic volumes, Lagos onis classified as a Medium-Port Megacity.[28]

map of Niger

Niger or the Niger (/niːˈʒɛər/ or /ˈnaɪdʒər/; French: [niʒɛʁ]), officially the Republic of the Niger, (Hausa: Jamhuriyar Nijar, Zarma/Songhai: Nigér Laabo, Tamajaq: ⵜⴰⴶⴷⵓⴷⴰ ⵏ ⵏⵉⵌⵢⵔ, Arabic: جمهورية النيجر) is a landlocked country in West Africa named after the Niger River. Niger is a unitary state bordered by Libya to the northeast, Chad to the east, Nigeria to the south, Benin and Burkina Faso to the southwest, Mali to the west, and Algeria to the northwest. Niger covers a land area of almost 1,270,000 km2 (490,000 sq mi), making it the second-largest landlocked country in West Africa (behind Chad). Over 80% of its land area lies in the Sahara Desert. The country's predominantly Muslim population of about 22 million live mostly in clusters in the far south and west of the country. The capital and largest city is Niamey, located in Niger's southwest corner.

Niger is a developing country, which consistently ranks near the bottom in the United Nations' Human Development Index (HDI); it was ranked 187th of 188 countries for 2015 and 189th out of 189 countries in the 2018 and 2019 reports. Many of the non-desert portions of the country are threatened by periodic drought and desertification. The economy is concentrated around subsistence agriculture, with some export agriculture in the more fertile south, and export of raw materials, especially uranium ore. Niger faces serious challenges to development due to its landlocked position, desert terrain, inefficient agriculture, high fertility rates without birth control and resulting overpopulation, the poor educational level and poverty of its people, lack of infrastructure, poor healthcare, and environmental degradation.

Nigerien society reflects a diversity drawn from the long independent histories of its several ethnic groups and regions and their relatively short period living in a single state. Historically, what is now Niger has been on the fringes of several large states. Since independence, Nigeriens have lived under five constitutions and three periods of military rule. After the military coup in 2010, Niger became a democratic, multi-party state. A majority of the population lives in rural areas and has little access to advanced education. Niger is divided into 7 Regions and one capital district. These Regions are subdivided into 36 departments. The 36 Departments are currently broken down into Communes of varying types. As of 2006 there were 265 communes, including communes urbaines (Urban Communes: as subdivisions of major cities), communes rurales (Rural Communes), in sparsely populated areas and postes administratifs (Administrative Posts) for largely uninhabited desert areas or military zones.

Rural communes may contain official villages and settlements, while Urban Communes are divided into quarters. Niger subvisions were renamed in 2002, in the implementation of a decentralisation project, first begun in 1998. Previously, Niger was divided into 7 Departments, 36 Arrondissements, and Communes. These subdivisions were administered by officials appointed by the national government. These offices will be replaced in the future by democratically elected councils at each level.

The pre-2002 departments (renamed as regions) and capital district are:

Agadez Region
Diffa Region
Dosso Region
Maradi Region
Tahoua Region
Tillabéri Region
Zinder Region
Niamey (capital district)

10 Africa Countries with the Best Quality Roads 2023

10 Africa Countries with the Best Quality Roads 2023.

Top 10 African Countries with the Best Quality Roads. Welcome to Afro Page and thanks for watching. In today’s video, we shall be counting down the top 10 African countries with the best quality roads. One of the essential factors for economic growth is domestic and international transportation, thus, road infrastructure needs to be maintained and updated regularly. when it comes to ranking countries by their road networks, African countries lag way behind. This is surprising considering the fact that a chunk of the budgetary allocations in many African countries are centered on road development, yet very little can be shown for it. The Global Competitive Report Index is charged with the ranking of roads worldwide to set aside the best from the worst. In ranking the countries, the Global Competitive Report index tracks the performance of approximately 140 countries on 12 pillars of competitiveness, including the quality of road infrastructure development, maintenance and urban-rural balance. In the recent ranking by the Global Competitive Report Index, United Arab, Singapore, and Switzerland, emerged with the best road in the world with scores of 6.2 each, while Mauritania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Haiti, emerged with the worst roads with score of 2.1.

A Leopard attacking a provocative photographer in the Maasai Mara National Reserve

A leopard attacking a provocative photographer in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. This photographer, who either chose to ignore the park rules or just was not briefed correctly, risked his life as a leopard tried to grab his foot.

As you can clearly tell, this vicious leopard was not very impressed and would have harmed the photographer. Even through leopard attacking people is rare, this is not to mean that you should play around with an leopard while on a safari. In fact, the best thing a guide should do when any wildlife gets so close to a tourist vehicle is to move away.

The management of Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya has already banned the camp and the guides who allowed this photographer to get involved in the would-be unfortunate encounter with a leopard.
