Aachen is a spa city near Germany’s borders with Belgium and the Netherlands. Aachen Cathedral was founded around 800 A.D. and a Gothic chancel was added later.
Its Domschatzkammer (treasury) has medieval artifacts including the shrine of Charlemagne, who was buried here in 814 A.D. Nearby is the baroque town hall, Aachener Rathaus, with 19th-century frescoes. Sulfurous water fills the fountains of Elisenbrunnen.

Aachen in 5 minutes ???? Aachen Cathedral, Printen & Tri-border area
Aachen is one of our top 10 cities in Germany and worth a visit. Aachen Cathedral is world-famous. And so are the tasty Printen. Aachen is located at the border triangle of Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Because of this location, you can feel Europe everywhere you go. We are theTravellers and show you Aachen in 5 minutes.
We start our Aachen tour at the city hall. It's worth taking a look inside. We continue to the Centre Charlemange city museum. On the way through the old town we eat some Printen. We pass the Elisenbrunnen - another landmark of Aachen. A little further out of town is the Lousberg. From here you have a view of the city from above.
If you're in Aachen for the weekend or even longer, e.g. for ERASMUS at rwth Aachen, it's worth taking a day trip to Monschau and the border triangle.

German Getaround ~ Gangelt to Geilenkirchen
A Video of our bus ride from Gangelt back to Geilenkirchen, returning us to our home base after an exhausting stray to the westernmost point of Germany and back again. We were actually trying to walk back all the way to Geilenkirchen, but eventually gave up when we reached Gangelt, still had 10km to go in fading daylight, were totally exhausted, and there was a bus stop, like, _right there_.

Aachen has been around for millennia. The Romans nursed their war wounds and stiff joints in the steaming waters of its mineral springs, but it was Charlemagne who put the city firmly on the European map. The emperor, too, enjoyed a dip now and then, but it was more for strategic reasons that he made Aachen the geographical and political capital of his vast Frankish Empire in 974 – arguably the first empire with European dimensions.

The Aquis Plaza (in former planning stages Kaiserplatz Gallery ) is a shopping center in the center of Aachen at the eastern end of the shopping street Adalbertstraße. It extends from Willy-Brandt-Platz to Kaiserplatz . After years of preparations and problems, including the purchase of the necessary land, the ECE Group was able to start the demolition and excavation work on the construction site on May 16, 2013 with the groundbreaking ceremony.
Participants in the development of the center is the Strabag Real Estate and the Hamburg architecture firm Blauraum Architekten . On 16 January 2014, the final has been building permit by the city of Aachen granted. With a topping-out ceremony on October 21, 2014, the completion of the shell construction was celebrated. The opening took place on October 28 will be 2015. and is said to have attracted more than 84,000 visitors.
About 130 retail stores with a sales area of 29,200 m 2 spread over basement, ground floor, first and second floor of the mall, including large chain stores such as Sport Scheck , Zara , TK Maxx , Reserved , Media-Saturn-Holding GmbH and Rewe . The center employs around 700 people.
The complex consists of two building wings connected by a glass-roofed passageway from Kaiserplatz to Willy-Brandt-Platz. This is accessible via all four levels, which are connected by stairs, escalators and elevators. The parking areas have 600 parking spaces and can only be reached via Kaiserplatz. They are located above the sales levels on the 3rd and 4th floors. A Car Finder System for finding the parking space is available.
