Enjoy a jam-packed day in one of the national parks or ski at one of the largest resorts in the country. Whatever you choose you won’t be disappointed as each of these towns offers stunning views and one-of-a-kind scenery.
Some of the towns on this list are lesser known and include some hidden gems. As a local, I go off the tourist path to find some unique and scenic towns to visit and with little tourist crowds.
From skiing and snowboarding in the winter to hiking, and camping in the summer, outdoor activities are a way of life in Colorado. The Centennial State is an ideal travel destination and one of the best places to visit for outdoor pursuits in every season.

For people who look for the most affordable and beautiful states to live in, Colorado usually one of the top 10 candidates. With an average of 300 days of sun a year, residents and visitors alike love spending time in Colorado’s great outdoors. Colorful Colorado is also known as a favorite vacation destination – travelers love to come here for the stunning mountains and all the activities they provide, from skiing in the winter to hiking, camping and rafting in the summer.
With the legalization of marijuana in 2012 (one of the first states to do so), and a reasonable cost of living, there’s been a sharp increase of people moving to the Centennial State. Housing prices continue to rise (as of September 2020), especially along the Front Range, from Fort Collins, Denver, Castle Rock and into Colorado Springs. The popular ski mountain towns are also well above $400,000 in median housing prices – it’s not uncommon to see million-dollar homes in prestigious areas.
But given the outdoors benefits – the cost of living in Colorado is still one of the best values in the country. Here are the ten most affordable places to live in Colorado, taking into account the cost of living, median housing price, average crime rate and other factors which make a place unique.

price of only $88,000.
2. The prairie town of Brush hugs the East Platte River, offering woods and wildlife, and a
median home cost of $153,000.
3. Historic Fort Lupton has views of the spectacular mountain range and easy access to
Denver. Homes average $211,000.
4. Milliken is hidden in a high-end area, but its homes average $233,000. An hour from
Denver, it’s close to the mountains, the Platte River and two lakes.
5. Family-friendly Dove Valley is Denver’s most affordable suburb, with homes averaging
$300,000.
6. Colorado Springs shines with the most dramatic view of America’s mountain, Pike’s

Colorado National Monument is located near Fruita and Grand Junction, Colorado. Rim Rock Drive, the main road through the park is one of the best Drives in the U.S.A! We saw bighorn sheep basking in the sun right at the beginning! The views into this canyon were so gorgeous! A must see if your in the area!
Day 20 of our road trip we spend the whole day inside one of the most beautiful places in the U.S. Colorado National Monument. Rim Rock Drive, the 23-mile road through this park is considered one of the most spectacular drives in the United States! And we couldn't agree more! There are so many beautiful stops to make in this park, we all had a really great time in this National Monument!

Let us drive you on Rim Rock Drive from Fruita to Grand Junction Colorado so that you can experience the Colorado National Monument. We wanted to try something a little different on this vlog: we basically wanted to be your virtual tour guides for this gorgeous scenic drive and national park. Even though there are 19 overlooks on this drive, we stopped at a few that were popular and a few that had available parking spots. Because of time, we decided to forgo any of the hikes (but we’ll be back!) Did you know that rocks at the foundation of the Colorado National Monument date from nearly 1.7 billion years ago? We found it fascinating to experience a natural wonder that is THAT old! Additionally, we were super impressed by how different the landscape is in this part of Colorado vs the Front Range (where we live). Colorado truly is a diverse state with so much to look at and experience.

After the pandemic shut everything down in March of 2020, we decided to make more time to explore our own state in part for our own mental wellbeing and in part because we’d been living here over 5 years and had barely hiked more than 10 different trails.
