What to see in Dodge City, Kansas | Trolley Tour | Gunsmoke RV Park | Season 1: Ep: 27

In this episode we are going to give some tips on what to see in Dodge City, Kansas, the Wickedest Little City in America. On our route back across the heartland of the United States, we decided to make a stop in a historical little western town, Dodge City. We found this to be a very cool stop in the middle of our great country. We all love wild west history and Dodge City is full of it, even if much of it has been romanticized and exaggerated over the last few decades. In this video, we share our ride around the city on a trolley tour, where we chose the 9am tour and had the trolley to ourselves. Our driver/tour guide was great and full of knowledge of his town. Come along with us on this trolley to learn more about this great, wild west town.

Not only is Dodge City famous for it's own western history with cowboys, outlaws, and such, it is also famous for being a model town for the show, Gunsmoke starring James Arness as Sheriff Matt Dillon. There is even a statue downtown honoring Arness and Ms. Kitty and even Festus are noted in the museum downtown (we will show you that in our next episode). We stayed at a great place, Gunsmoke RV Park located right at the edge of town. It had a pool, laundry room, playground, and good size sites. We definitely recommend it if you are in the area. It's gated and a Good Sam affiliated park.

We are a family of 4 who loves to travel. In 2019, we bought a 30 ft. travel trailer and decided to make our dreams happen by getting out on the road. We have always LOVED traveling and now seeing our world on the road has given us opportunities to see more and make memories as a family. We are teachers and are blessed to have the same vacation schedule, so we make the most of it with our kids by being both weekend warriors and school schedule traveling--We call ourselves part-timers. We hope to share what we learn while exploring this beautiful world around us and inspire you to get out and see it, too.

Dodge The Ordinary Video (Intro Video to Fort Dodge - Iowa Mini Series)

We had a chance to go to Fort Dodge in June 2021 and learn all about their trail systems including Mountain Biking Trails, Hiking Trails, Water Trails with the Des Moines River and Lizard Creek Water Trails, and Iowa's largest OHV (Off-Highway Vehicle) Park at Gypsum City - boasting 800 acres and over 60-65 miles of trails (continuously developing).

Beyond trails they offer great places to camp and fish - and one of those spots was the Brushy Creek State Recreational Area - with 6,500 acres within the area plus a 690-acre lake that holds the reputation as one of the top Bass fishing lakes in the country - not to mention that it is the deepest artificial permanent pool lake with extensive trails surrounding the area.

Dolliver State Park is nearby with its awesome camping and hiking, and not far down the road is Camp Wanoki - a once private girls camp that the surrounding land is now open to the public for access to hiking and other outdoor activities.

The most impressive Mountain Biking Trail system in Iowa has to be located in Fort Dodge along the Lower Lizard Creek area. The trail system is continuously expanding but offers miles of quality mountain biking trails with different level terrain to offer a challenge to the more experienced riders while giving opportunities for the novice to learn and enjoy the sport.

This video provides the new hashtag that Fort Dodge, Iowa is working on #dodgetheordinary and was fun to go downtown and to area parks, and camps to catch a glimpse of the effort Fort Dodge is putting into their community to clean it up and paint a new picture of where they are headed.

Country Pilgrim believes in their effort and wanted to put together a video celebrating the work and dedication to the process.

The city is full of culture including the Blanden Memorial Art Museum - the first office building of its kind to be dedicated and built solely for the purpose of housing an art museum. The work from the museum and other local artists can be seen around the town with sculptures and other art pieces.

And of course, the prize piece in this display of this public artwork is the 110 feet Guido van Helten Silo Mural - the tallest mural in Iowa.

There are certain times when I put together a video that I may need to use extra B-Roll Footage. This video was one of the times I needed a few other clips - even though this footage is either granted with permission or given with a free usage license through pexels - I still like to give credit to the videographers and offer donations to their projects.

The Mountain Biking Footage towards the end of the piece where the group of riders is coming up - was videoed by my good friend - and granted with permission to use - Kay Johnson. You can find her video and YouTube Channel at HappyTrailsCamping.
