Gaeta ! Formia Beach Travel Vlog ! Best Beach in Italy

Ciao
Again We went on an unorganized Sudden Trip to Gaeta on Feb 19, 2021, by Renting a Car at just 50 Euro which is not that Expensive if 5 Students are Contributing. We really had a Peaceful day out in Gaeta, saw many ports, lot of Big Boats and Sea and Mountains Everywhere.

Serapo Beach is the main beach of Gaeta. Close to the city center and the Medieval district, with many beach resorts it is always heaving with Italian and foreign tourists, drawn by its fine golden sand. Serapo is especially the beach of the people! The sea here is really clean and mums take here their children to bathe, given the vast choice of shores and resorts available in this kilometer and a half of fine golden sand.

Rome to Gaeta - 173km
Bus Fare - 9 to 15 euro( One way)
Cassino to Gaeta - 48 km

***???????????????? ????????????????????????????***
The origin of the village is linked to the need of the populations who lived on the Gulf of Gaeta to move to new settlements in a protected position on the surrounding hills, to defend against Saracen raids. Maranola is mentioned for the first time in 1029 and again in 1045, when it is indicated as castrum, a place fortified with walls and towers. In 1041 the existence of a via carraria de Maranola is also attested.

Under the Caetani a new wall with three towers was then built, the only access to which was the so-called ravellino, demolished at the end of the 19th century. The village was placed under siege in 1347 by Nicola Caetani as part of the clashes conducted to regain Mola, Castellone and Traetto. His son, Onorato I Caetani, had a castle built there which took from him the name of Castello Onorato. In April 1400 it was besieged by the troops of Ladislao I of Naples.

In the 15th century it had the status of a *university* and the statute states that it included the hamlets of Mamurrano, Ponzanello and Trivio in its territory. In 1414 the property was sold to Pietro Origlia, count of Caiazzo, but Cristoforo Caetani took it back by force. In 1428 it became an autonomous municipality together with a quarter of the territory of Maranola.

In 1491 it was in possession of Caterina Pignatelli, in 1504 by Prospero Colonna and in 1691 it passed to the Carafa, who kept it until the abolition of feudalism in 1806.

****Additional Info****
Maranola is also famous for its *Festival of Environmental Arts* / Seminaria and its *Living Cribs*.
The first, which invites international artists to dialogue with the small village of Maranola and its inhabitants, developing new projects through a period of residency with immersive and multimedia installations, performances, interactive works, video projections, murals, sculptures and other forms of contemporary art.

The second, the *Living Cribs*, takes place every year on December 26th and January 1st and 6th Maranola is transformed into a nativity scene. The doors of the houses open, the old mills shine again, the ancient crafts come back to life.

Places to see in ( Gaeta - Italy )

Places to see in ( Gaeta - Italy )

Gaeta is a coastal city in central Italy, south of Rome. It's home to Monte Orlando Park, a protected area with Roman ruins, Mediterranean vegetation and dive sites. Inside the park, an 11th-century sanctuary sits on Montagna Spaccata, named for a wide split in the rock that plunges into the sea. A staircase leads to the nearby Grotta del Turco marine cave. Northwest is the Villa di Tiberio archaeological site.

Gaeta is a city and comune in the province of Latina, in Lazio, central Italy. Set on a promontory stretching towards the Gulf of Gaeta, it is 120 kilometres (75 miles) from Rome and 80 km (50 mi) from Naples. The town has played a conspicuous part in military history: its fortifications date back to Roman times, and it has several traces of the period, including the 1st-century mausoleum of the Roman general Lucius Munatius Plancus at the top of the Monte Orlando. Gaeta's fortifications were extended and strengthened in the 15th century, especially throughout the history of the Kingdom of Naples (later the Two Sicilies). Present day Gaeta is a fishing and oil seaport, and a renowned tourist resort. NATO maintains a naval base of operations at Gaeta.

It is the ancient Caieta, situated on the slopes of the Torre di Orlando, a promontory overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Gaeta was an ancient Ionian colony of the Samians according to Strabo, who believed the name stemmed from the Greek kaiétas, which means cave, probably referring to the several harbours. According to Virgil's Aeneid (vii.1–9), Caieta was Aeneas’ (another legend says Ascanius') wet-nurse, whom he buried here.

The main attractions of the city include:

The massive Aragonese-Angevine Castle. Its origins are uncertain: most likely it was built in the 6th century, in the course of the Gothic War, or during the 7th century to defend the town from the Lombards' advance.
The Mausoleum of Lucius Munatius Plancus (22 BCE) is a cylindrical travertine monument at the top of Monte Orlando (168 m).
The Sanctuary of SS. Trinità, mentioned as early as the 11th century and visited, among the others, by St. Francis and Saint Philip Neri.
Sanctuary of Santissima Annunziata - A church and adjacent hospital were built at the site in the 14th century, but rebuilt at the beginning of the 17th century in Baroque style by Andrea Lazzari.
San Giovanni a Mare - The church was initially built outside the old sea walls, by the hypate Giovanni IV in the 10th century. It combines the basilica form with the Byzantine one.
The Cathedral of Assunta e Sant'Erasmo was erected over a more ancient church, Santa Maria del Parco
The Cathedral has a great bell tower, standing at 57 m, which is considered the city's finest piece of art.
The Chapel of the Crucifix is a curiosity: built on a huge mass of rock that hangs like a wedge between two adjoining walls of rock.
San Francesco - According to the legend, the church was constructed by the Saint himself in 1222.
The parish church of Santa Lucia, the former St. Maria in Pensulis, was once a Royal chapel and here prayed Margherita of Durazzo and king Ladislaus.
The Medieval Quarter of Gaeta is itself of interest. It lies on the steep sides of Mount Orlando and has characteristic houses from the 11th-13th centuries. Gaeta is also the centre of the Regional Park of Riviera di Ulisse, which includes Monte Orlando, Gianola and the Scauri Mounts, and the two promontories of Torre Capovento and that of Tiberius' Villa at Sperlonga.

( Gaeta - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Gaeta . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Gaeta - Italy

The virtual walk starts behind the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, then tours inside the old town, walking through the narrow streets and alleys of the town and encountering incredibly beautiful views and panoramas. It is the ancient ????????????????????????, situated on the slopes of the Torre di Orlando, a promontory overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. According to Virgil's Aeneid, Gaeta was instead named after Caieta, Aeneas’ (another legend says Ascanius') wet-nurse, whom he buried here.
In the classical age Caieta, famous for its lovely and temperate climate, was a tourist resort and site of the seaside villas of many important and rich characters of Rome.

Like the other Roman resorts, Caieta was linked to the capital of the Empire by Via Appia and its end trunk Via Flacca (or Valeria), through an opposite diverticulum or by-road.
Its port was of great importance in trade and in war, and was restored under Emperor Antoninus Pius. Among its antiquities is the mausoleum of Lucius Munatius Plancus.

Gaeta Italy Part 1

it is Dec. 2021 and I am now stationed on a Navy ship here in Gaeta Italy and I took a day time walk down Piccolo This city is older than Rome

The CUTEST TOWN In Italy (GAETA)

After spending a week in Rome, I got on a train and went to Gaeta Italy - about half way between Rome and Naples. The plan was to go to Pompeii, but Gaeta was too amazing. I changed plans and stayed almost another whole week in this tiny fishing village. With a castle and bunkers from the 15th Century and World War II, this town really was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. Gelato, pizza and pasta were all consumed here - soooo good.

COME DISCOVER BEAUTIFUL SOUTH LAZIO

The beautiful coastline of the Riviera D' Ulisse / Ulysses Riviera (sometimes also know as the Costa Pontina or Pontine Coast) is considered to be one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in Italy.

It takes its name from Greek mythology. According to Homer's ancient work the Odessey and Virgil's later work the Aeneid, the legendary Greek hero Odysseus / Ulysses, having fled from the Aegean following the fall of Troy, for 10 years navigated the waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea and eventually set foot on these golden Italian shores.

This picturesque Riviera D'Ulisse, with its numerous golden sandy beaches, rocky coves, hidden caves and sheltered harbours, and the pretty seaside resorts of Sperlonga, Gaeta, Formia, Terracina, San Felice and the Pontine Islands, is noted for its temperate climate, and rainless summers. The rocky cliffs are a haven for Free Climbers.

Yet close by are the dramatic Aurunci, and Ausoni, mountains which border the Southern Appenines and the Abruzzo National Park. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty, with a diversity of landscapes: Pretty medieval hill towns; verdant tranquil hillsides; olive groves; rivers, lakes; craggy peaks and protected nature reserves.

South Lazio is ideally positioned midway between Rome and Naples making it an ideal base for taking day trips to these noble historical cities and also perhaps to Caserta and Montecassino.

The South Lazio area is popular with Italian visitors during the month of August, however out of season it reverts to a peaceful setting that is still largely undiscovered by international tourists.

This is Real Italy !!!
