Lake Balaton is in central Hungary, and the easternmost tip of the lake is about an hour’s drive southwest from downtown Budapest.Balaton's popularity among residents is partly motivated by its closeness to the country's capital.In a matter of minutes, you may be strolling through rural vineyards and enjoying fresh white wine with the most stunning views, far from Budapest's old, concrete streets.The lake is the biggest in Central Europe, with a total length of 77 kilometers and a surface area of 598 square kilometers. Balaton hasn't been caught in the past, despite changing travel preferences.It attracts a large number of wakeboarders, kitesurfers, and stand-up paddleboarders, as well as sunbathers.Beyond the lake, Balaton is rebuilding itself as Hungary's most interesting culinary area outside of Budapest, and is becoming an excellent destination for music and the arts.

Wonders of Hungary - Festetics Palace, Keszthely
The Festetics Palace in Keszthely is an excellent choice for our Wonders of Hungary series: besides its imposing Baroque architecture and park, all the buildings of the estate are full of interesting exhibits (e.g. a carriage museum, a palm house, miniature railways, birds and the largest unharmed noble library in Europe). Visitors love this place - and maybe not just for its features but for the proximity of Lake Balaton too: the beach is in just walking distance.

A must visit summer destionation for your Hungary Travels is Lake Balaton! In this video we show you areas near Badacsony to visit: the Szigliget Castle ruins, Hiking to some natural wonders, eat delicious food and do some wine tasting!
The Szigliget Castle ruins are near Badacsony, a unique area at Lake Balaton which is one of the most popular destination for travelers. Those who want to chill, enjoy the water or even take some culinary Adventures all come here. The region was shaped by geological activities millions of years ago and has many mountains for people to hike up to. One of them is located in Szigliget where once a great castle stood. In this video we explore the Castle Ruins of Szigliget, then go and explore another mountain nearby to find the geological objects called Basalt Organs.
This videos chronicles our adventures during our 2nd day in the Badacsony area, if you are interested in our first day adventures make sure to check out the first video in this series:
Szigliget is a small town close to Badacsonytomaj. The Szigliget Castle ruins lie on top of the hill which is overseeing the small little town. Although its only the ruins of a once thriving castle, they were recently renovated, showcasing what life once was among the walls of the castle that are standing there for 800 years. But the real reason to visit this place is for the amazing views and scenes you get from looking over the walls.
As many people are visiting the castle ruins, an IceCream shop and Cafe operates at the bottom of the hill, and they serve Amazing IceCream! Plus some nice local handcraft items can be bought here as well.
Next we went to nearby mountain of Szentgyörgy. The region is famous for it's wine, and this mountain also hosts many vineyards. We went to Szászi Estate Viridarium Restaurant where we recharged with some excellent lunch, and then we checked out a nearby little chapel called Lengyel Kápolna.
After this we moved over to the other side of the mountain to try and hike up to some unique geological formations also known as Basalt Organs. It was a tough trip, but definately worth the experience.
Finally after returning to our place of stay in Badacsonytomaj, we went for a wine tasting at the FATA Cellar, then ending the day with some dinner.

A Panoráma vagy más néven a Szaplonczay sétány nagyon népszerű a turisták körében, hiszen fantasztikus innen a kilátás.
Erről a helyről páratlan panoráma látható a túloldali hegyekre és a Balatonra. A villasor előtti sávban történt parkírozást a villák építésére létrejött társaság finanszírozta. A sétány arculatát egy Párizsban tanult kertész, a Csehországból Magyarországra települt Schillhán János tervezte és készítette. A sétány a fonyódi magaspart szélén található, amelynek veszélyeiről Vályi András, Magyar Országnak Leírása című munkájában így emlékezik meg 1796-ban: „… egy felől olly meredek, hogy félelmet, sőt irtódzást indít a lenézőben.”
A korláttal védett panoráma sétányról mesés kilátás nyílik Badacsonyra, a jellegzetes tanúhegyekre, a Balaton víztükrére. A sétány menti régi kőből faragott padokon pihenhetünk meg. Több emlékmű mellett is elmegyünk, (Zichy Béla, Szaplonczay Manó), egy nagy kettős keresztet, a Millenniumi Emlékkeresztet is láthatjuk. Hangulatos sétányunk molyhos tölgy és fenyőligetek mellett halad, végig kitűnő kilátást nyújtva.
A Sipos-hegyi kilátóból, vagy a Várhegyi Széplátóból pedig még teljesebb az élmény, mindenképpen megéri az innen eléd táruló körpanoráma látványa miatt felmászni ezekre a helyekre.

A Várhegyi kilátót Fonyód Város Önkormányzata építtette 2011-ben. Tervezte – idősebb Lőrincz Ferenc Ybl díjas tervező elképzelése alapján – ifjabb Lőrincz Ferenc.
Kivitelezte a budapesti Mester-Építő Kft. A kilátót 2012. január 1-től a Fonyódi Városfejlesztési és Városüzemeltetési Nonprofit Közhasznú Kft. üzemelteti.
Fonyód Város Önkormányzat Képviselő-testülete 2012. április 26-án a kilátónak a “VÁRHEGYI SZÉPLÁTÓ” nevet adta.
kilátó a Várhegy 231 m magas csúcsán egy Árpád kori földvár – viszonylag ép – maradványaira épült. A kilátó első emelete a terepszinthez viszonyítva 3 m magasan van. A második emelet 6 m, a harmadik emelet 10,5 m és a negyedik emelet 14 m magas.
A faszerkezet legmagasabb pontja 20,8 m. Az antennatartó árboc magassága 48 m.
A kilátóból látható a Balaton teljes nyugati és középső medencéje.
A kilátótól jó időben a Tihanyi félszigeten túl is ellátni. Déli és keleti irányban a Nagyberek és a Külső-Somogy teljes területe jól belátható. A kilátót körülölelő erdőben kellemes túrautak vannak, ahol tanösvény mutatja be a térség múltját valamint növény- és állatvilágát.
Az erdőben kijelölt tűzrakó helyek találhatók, és megtekinthető Bélatelep alapítójának,
Dr. Szaplonczay Manónak a síremléke is.

Balaton ( Blatno Jezero ) je jedno od najvećih jezera u Centralnoj Evropi, te ga stoga nazivaju i „Mađarskim morem“. Smešteno je na 120 km jugozapadno od Budimpešte. Dugačko je 77 km, a široko od 4 do 14 km. Prosečna dubina je 3,3 m, a maksimalna 12 m. Postepena dubina vode omogućava bezbrižno kupanje i neplivačima. Voda je čista, a dno peskovito. Na obalama jezera nalazi se desetak prelepih mesta koja kriju termalne izvore lekovite vode, podzemne pećine, dvorce i muzeje. Duž cele istočne obale, turistima su na raspolaganju uređen kej sa šetalištem, tereni za sport i rekreaciju, kao i vodeni tobogani. Pored jezera nalazi se veliki broj naselja: Fonjod, Zamardi, Balatonfeldvar, a najpoznatiji grad je Šiofok.

A Balaton Közép-Európa egyik legnagyobb tava, ezért „Magyar tengernek” is nevezik. Budapesttől 120 km-re délnyugatra található. 77 km hosszú és 4-14 km széles. Átlagos mélysége 3,3 m, maximum 12 m. A víz fokozatos mélysége lehetővé teszi a gondtalan fürdést még az úszni nem tudók számára is. A víz tiszta, az alja homokos. A tó partján tíz gyönyörű hely található, amelyek gyógyvizes termálforrásokat, földalatti barlangokat, kastélyokat és múzeumokat rejtenek. A teljes keleti part mentén a turisták rendelkezésére áll egy rendezett rakpart sétányal, sport- és rekreációs területekkel, valamint csúszdákkal. A tó mellett számos település található: Fonjod, Zamárdi, Balatonfeldvar, leghíresebb városa Siófok.

Der Balaton ist einer der größten Seen Mitteleuropas, weshalb er auch „Ungarisches Meer“ genannt wird. Es liegt 120 km südwestlich von Budapest. Es ist 77 km lang und 4 bis 14 km breit. Die durchschnittliche Tiefe beträgt 3,3 m und die maximale Tiefe 12 m. Die abgestufte Wassertiefe ermöglicht auch Nichtschwimmern ein unbeschwertes Baden. Das Wasser ist sauber und der Boden ist sandig. An den Ufern des Sees gibt es zehn wunderschöne Orte, die Thermalquellen mit Heilwasser, unterirdische Höhlen, Burgen und Museen verbergen. Entlang der gesamten Ostküste steht den Touristen ein angelegter Kai mit Promenade, Sport- und Erholungsplätzen sowie Wasserrutschen zur Verfügung. Am See gibt es zahlreiche Siedlungen: Fonjod, Zamardi, Balatonfeldvar und die berühmteste Stadt ist Siófok.

The average depth is 3.3 m, and the maximum is 12 m. The gradual depth of the water allows carefree bathing even for non-swimmers. The water is clean, and the bottom is sandy. Abrudbányai-Rédinger Ödönt Tim Burton találta volna ki, ha nem létezett volna a valóságban is, és nem építtetett volna házas emberként előző, a tervezett esküvő előtt betegségben elhunyt szerelmének emlékvillát Fonyód egy festői pontján, az alagsorban márványból kifaragtatva saját maga és kedvese nászágyon fekvő párosát is. De így történt pontosan, és a Kripta Villa azóta is őrzi Ödön úr és Magdus kisasszony soha be nem teljesedett szerelmének emlékét.
